Maybe this is an obvious point, but you messed up. You could have handled this in a way that let you keep the gig and probably future gigs. For shame.

Do people in the still photography world not understand the concept of a closed set? I know most here do but it seems some don't. You don't have to have the young girl come alone... She should come with her mother. The makeup artist can attend to her and you can talk with the mother or work with your assistant to do the pre-lighting. If you feel you need to be one on one to bring out a certain level of intimacy in the shots, just have everyone go into the next room for 20 minutes at a clip. You shoot with the model and when you brake, everyone comes back together... It's not that hard...

If her mother is concerned about her daughters sex life, which she indicated she was, then it would be in her best interest to look at other people in her daughters life and not me, a photographer.

Haha. technically, perhaps your photographer was naked at a nude photo shoot. But why should it only be the model who's having all the fun? Anyway, you needed my coat because you were turning strange colors, and I haven't worn underwear since the 60's. So what is, ... is.

Tony Lawrence wrote: What state in the U.S. is there a law that prohibits a adult from being in the presence of a minor without a parent present or a legal guardian. I know you're trying to be helpful but PLEASE do not quote laws that do not exist. In a past post I did give a example of what could happen when children are left in a adults care. In many states a 17 year old can have sex, legal sex mind you with an adult. This being a person older then 18. You just can't photograph the act or photograph them nude in a sexual act. Nudes themselves are not against the law in most states but the law you are speaking of does not exist and if it does give a link to it. Well I didnt do an exhaustive search and of course a law enforcement official is not gonna arrest Marge dropping home her friend's son from school but here is NYS Penal Code on "Custodial Interference" http://criminaljustice.state.ny.us/miss … erence.pdf here is also the Child Protection Act of NYS http://criminaljustice.state.ny.us/miss … ct2003.pdf See I used to work for NYC-EMS, we used to be prepped on many laws concerning minors obviously. In other states they are more restrictive about children even being with a stranger, for laws that can be upheld if they find reason that the person had intentions to harm the child. Of course this is not the situation as a photographer, but none the less it is concerning a minor and an adult.

Didn't read the whole thread. I'd just say that the mother doesn't really sound hysterical, not after having her 16-year old do two shoots. As a photographer, I'd want an escort, preferably a parent there until the girl is 18, not just for her protection (read: covering ass) but for your's as well.

You insulted her. Not by the crack about her daughter, well, that too, but that you didn't make "advances" on her. Get some flowers, say you're sorry, tell her she's hot and get back on track! C'mon, bro, get with it!

10 points!!! lol I'm glad you said that to her. I hate when people act like their kids are incapable of doing anything wrong and that if they did it was because they were forced lol. I can understand a mother's concern for her child, but she shouldnt have said what she said, even if thats what she was thinking.

In some states, being not the guardian of a child, it is against the law for them to even be in your prescence without their legal guardian. Because in your care you are responsible for their welfare at that given moment. Only if she was an emancipated minor where she can make decisions for herself cause she has had a child or living on her own is when she can be alone with you. Doesn't that make it difficult for... taxi drivers, or bus drivers in otherwise empty busses? Neighbors helping out (even though you dis say LEO wouldn't do anything, if the law says it's illegal...) Clerks in smaller stores? Doctors, nurses... Police? Teachers, coaches, ... Adult passenger in a car driven by a minor? Wow. I'm glad that "law" didn't apply where and when I was a child.

Ever heard of innocent until proven guilty? Here ya go: http://www.roanoke.com/news/roanoke/wb/xp-67980 and while Bob Shell may have had an OMP account, if I recall, he was a professional photographer and an editor of SHUTTERBUG Magazine. While he didn't actually shoot her or knife her, he contributed heavily to her death and then tried to cover it up. This was the first article (and one going rather easier on Shell than others I read) that I found online.

So if the OP found on your MySpace (this is all hypothetical) that you like screwing donkeys and ostriches but your bf/husband doesn't know this, and your bf/husband said to the photographer "I heard a lot of things that have happened with photographers, I want someone to be there with her", it would be perfectly fine to say to your bf/husband, "Oh, it's okay for her to f*ck donkeys and exotic birds but not shoot with me?". The OP should have acted like a professional and not outted the daughter to the mother, no matter what. The mother may know what the daughter is up to, but it is not her photographers place to tell her.
