Ok, since I've used all my slots, this will be the next photo I sacrifice to make room.
Is it just that the b&w doesn't work, the long cropping, or did it just bore everone to tears?

I'm wondering if anyone has thought of this idea before:
On myspace the blogs allow someone to give a rating to someone's post via "kudos".  There are many photos that I look at, like, but don't comment. Simply because it's a pretty picture, and I rarely have anything constructive or witty to say about pretty pictures. But I would, however mark my rating if there was one.

Looked at this for a while.  There is a lot I like but it makes the model look too heavy.  Would also crop out a little of the black space above.  Of course, consider the source and take this with a grain (or two) of salt.

O.K., maybe it's "standard".  BUT! It's also "untouched" and the blemishes on her cheeks also tell me she very comfortable with her body and herself.  Now, I'm absoultely sure that if the dress was dropped to her ass and she was blowing you a kiss that it would have many comments.  BTW, she did this, the picture is GREAT, and NO..., you can't see it.

My image is not showing up for some reason so go here https://www.modelmayhem.com/pic.php?pid=1184801

Drats!

Like the "image" and the model.  The picture itself looks too grainy on my monitor at least.   Also not quite sharp enough which would of course make it look slightly grainer.  What was the ISO?  Some of mine aren't quite saturated enough when I put them on the web and I have to boost them up a bit to bring them out.  Would that help?

OK, I finally worked up the courage to post my own image.

This is one of my favorite shots in my port. I know why I like it. I have a couple of images with less comments, but this one doesn't seem to get much attention:

I think it suffers from the thumbnail syndome too.  Like the picture.  It's just one of those that needs to be seen bigger.   Even bigger than the "full size" version.

Got to run to the gym (ugh) but will be back in an hour or two to see what others think of it.

It might be because the pallette is so tightly controlled in color range.. or that her legs are a bit foreshortened. I think if she was sitting 2 steps higher it would work more for me, personally. Nothing wrong with it as is, though.

One of my most favorite vintage dashboard shots.....

https://img4.modelmayhem.com/060727/07/44c8b435d7466.jpg

.....is one of the rarer 1950`s MG`s the TF 1500 model with it`s beautiful Octagon gauges and the MG logo carpet and the vintage MG book are great additions too, but people just don`t "get" it?
I guess Retro is`nt for everybody, but personally I find it`s just refreshing to see some artistic work on this site that`s not always of the feminine, but of the 4 wheeled kind

Mabey it's just me, but the flat light, and grainy texture first put me off a little.
On the full size photo, a few things disturbed me: the shadow around her head from standing too close to the background, the garment tag, the little thread hanging from her collar, and lastly, the holding of two fingers in by her other hand.
The model does not come off as professional or well-directed. I would love to see future work by both of you, since I think your more recent work is much stronger:

I personally think it's an excellent photo.
If one thing stands out that I would have done differently, is to match the skin tones from her face and body, and remove a bit of the tungsten color from the face and hair.
She's got great legs, and I love the pose.

My submission for most underrated image on my port .... least amount of comments, anyway.  In retrospect, I guess I could have done a few things different- but I dont think like it least in my port.  I am quite fond of it ... and her- wow- she is gorgeous.

I love the colours and feel of this, but nobody looks at it or comments on it- is it because there's no face or nudity?

I think he was eluding more to the fact that I have alot of the same "effect" applied to the photos in my port, though. It was kind of a subtle needling. Which I'm ok with. I can take a little good natured ribbing. big_smile

I'm aware I haven't got alot of experience or technical "skill" like I see in other ports, but.. For a guy who has never taken a course, a class, or had ANY pro training, and picked up a camera a couple years ago on a lark at an estate sale, I don't think I'm doing too bad. I learn alot, I read alot, I study alot of photos.. It's lead me to working for the local weekly newspaper, as well as freelancing for several of the bigger newspapers in bigger markets (IE, Canwest Media).

Here's some of the pics I took this summer, 90% of which was published.

Edit - I forgot - To Mr. Melvin... I genuinely ADORE your work. THAT'S the kind of work I'd like to be doing. smile (And I'm not being facetious. I'm quite serious.)

Wow your site is like a poster for MADD

Though I do have others which have fewer views or comments, I think this one is my most underappreciated here at MM:
https://www.modelmayhem.com/pic.php?pid=1258501

In my printed book, it is the one that stops the turn of pages the longest.  Sometimes to an open-mouthed, stopped-in-mid-sentence effect.  Even more than this photo...
https://www.modelmayhem.com/pic.php?pid=14498
...which is only a few pages away in that same book but has the most views and comments on my profile here.

In the first picture her breast don't work for this shot.  That's not to say they don't look nice just the wrong shot for them in my very humble opinion.  Second shot needs a different crop I think.
Feel free to savage mine.  They deserve it.

Well, I won't make a direct comment but I have to say this is a great thread for those of us with a lot to learn.  Since almost everyone's port is better than mine I spend most of my time looking at what is right in other photographer's pictures and not picking them apart.  Maybe part of the reason I am so bad at critiquing mine.  I find this a very worthwhile exercise.
