Ok, so I have a bash for all the "Creepy Photgraphers" (da da dum) out there. So I'm out shopping today at one of my favorite stores (well not really, but when you don't live in the suburbs anymore and you now live downtown your choice of shopping malls are limited.) And there's this 40-something year old guy who works there whose always saying 'hi', how are you and what-not. FYI: to all the men out there: a girl knows when you are just trying to be nice or if you are looking for something more than just wanting to know how she is doing today. But I've ignored it-till today. Today, I just wanted to buy a new hamper for my house. Not chit-chat wit the creepy ol' guy in the sportswear section. Well, too make a long story short-we get into a conversation about modeling (and usually I NEVER, ever tell people I model because 9 times out of 10 they will claim they either are or know someone who is somebody that is some big famous person in the buisness that I should know. )Well this guy claimed to be such. And one thing I've learned from a good friend of mine whose been in this buisness for years is that: "Any photgrapher who claims to be or know all or most of the big names in the buisness is either A. Lying B. Trying to get in your pants or C. A douchebag for wanting to brag and ya probably dont' wanna work wit him anyway Well I think this guy fell under category A cause he kept trying to convince me that I should be trying to get into Smooth and King magazine cause of my "fine body") Gross! I don't wanna hear that from someone old enough to be my damn daddy!! He even insisted that I better "recognize" the shift in the modeling industry. (Claiming that more and more girls are breaking into the hig fashion buisness by being more risque and sexual-a la booty shots) and that instead of geering towards being signed with a commercial agency I should look towards the more urban side of modeling because of my "skin tone" (wow-talk about sterotyping) and the commercial agencies will be banging down doors later to sign me once I break into music videos and so on!! Oh, and he insisted that he followed America's next top model like it was the bible cause it was soo much like the real modeling world. I tried to explain to him that the show is 90% reality show and he shot back that I was only 22 and knew nothing about a 20 year veteran as himself. (But he's a cashier with a bendable buisness card with Photography spelled wrong on it) I see.

Unfortunately, they're everywhere. Having done modeling in the past I came across quite a few that initially seemed to have something working for them until it came time to doing the actual shoot. I always bring someone with me if I am doing a shoot (a little precautionary thing, if you will). I think this guy has made it very clear (without actually wearing a neon sign) that he's a creep with just one thing in mind. Claiming to be a photographer with the alterior motive of maybe getting "lucky" on the side. Bleh! I think you're onto something, sweetie.

Ragnar wrote: I see you love people and respect them. Wow your a real !!!! Actually I do. That's why I went up to bat for one of my favorite photographers who I have had the joy of working with that this guy had the nerve to bash for no apparent reason. My point is that with all the model bashing that goes around. Many of us models go through a lot worse with a lot of these creepy GWC's running around. Of course, such threads are put in the dark. Modeling bashing is much more fun!

yawn.... I love 22 year old models full of piss and vinegar. I was able to steer myself out of conversations I didn't want to get into by the age of 12.

Thank you, Mircalla, any other models who have similar stories please relate. I know I am not alone in this one. Guess this should of been under "Model Matters." That's right: models only. I'm sure there are plenty of model bashing threads in the other forums fellow photogs.

Exactly, Chelyse, I didn't think that would happen but wow. Very interesting outcome of a thread that was supposed to be an open and lively discussion for all. When models are bashed the photographers of model mayhem swarm like bees to such a thread. TIME TO START A REVOLUTION MY FELLOW MODELS!

As a photographer, I can say this to other photographer out there: GROW UP! As I stated in another thread, everyone has their own style and technique which is unique to them. Just because their work doesn't mimmick yours doesn't make them bad. I'll take an experimental photographer over the typical point and shoot any day!

nah, I don't think every model is like that. I'm not. Yes, I like to get paid if someone is planning to use my image for their own financial gain. Why not? Wouldn't you want the same if someone were using your photographs for their own financial purposes? Seriously. There are those models out there who do act as though the world owes them everything but there are just as many photographers who act the same way. I am speaking from both sides here.

Oh for crying out loud, get over it. There are creeps in every line of work. Maybe there are more in the art/photography/modelling industry because we are surrounded by attractive men and women 24/7. However, if you can't handle it by 22yrs. of age, you are in for a miserable time. Compensate by thinking of all the nice, decent photographers and models you meet. And, incidentally, I found your age-related comments offensive to say the least...I am certainly old enough to be your father and could easily have found myself commenting on your looks or figure in a shoot...on the other hand, with an attitude like yours, probably NOT!

I don't "get" that this guy was "creepy" by the conversation you described with him. It was your choice to have a conversation with him and maybe he was pushy or opinionated, but I don't get the creepy part. Secondly, you describe his age as if being 40 was a crime? You talk about model bashing and all that I am getting out of this is that you need to vent about something non-specific? Maybe your just reading too much into the situation, or your just full of yourself, I don't know you that well. Pardon the pun, but this just strikes me as a case of the kettle calling the pot black.

Um ok, for one- I am sorry if you found my quote un quote "age-related" comments offensive. My boyfriend-the love of my life, the man I hope to spend the rest of my life with is 10 years older than I am, has a long beard and beer belly (for now but he's trying to lose it so in no way do I assume that any guy that is pass their 20's is less a person or some sort. But how do you expect a model to react when a "photgrapher" is obviously sexually interested in her, and after asking about her relationship status insits that "oh by the way, I would love to shoot you sometime?" I've had the oppurtunity of working with great photographers. Many that have dressed me while in my bra and underwear and I never once felt uncomfortable but a women's instict kicks in when something aint right. Who said I can't handle it by 22? I'm still here and kicking. P.S I have had plenty of guys comment on my looks and again, a woman knows when he is saying it in a just giving a compliment kind of way or when it turns into a sexual kind of way and that can make any woman uncomfortable depending on the situation and it did for me. But age-related offensive comments? Ha! You haven't seen my boyfriend.

Why talk to a creepy guy? Just leave. You know I used to think I have to stand there and listen to be polite. Now I just turn around and leave just like that. Who cares what he thinks.I bet you next time when you go there he would not say hi or even look at you. Your problem solved.

To models, women, men, and human beings everywhere - If no one cared to look at you, not only wouldn't you have a career (for models), you'd probably be quite lonely and pissed as well (for everybody else, except hermits). //and quite frankly if you didn't want anyone noticing your ass you wouldn't wiggle it so much when you walk in a public place.

I've never quite got the logic behind pretty people bitching about how people find them attractive. Woe be to the persecuted model that they must endure stares of admiration and longing all day! trust that there is an ugly person out there right now praying that someone will look at them like a piece of meat tommorrow when hey wake up. But hey what do I know. I can't tell people what to let go and what to be rightfully annoyed at. It's unamerican!
