Last time I checked, we have the freedom to pick and choose who we wish to work with.

I'd like to add a personal and somewhat artistic modification to the OP's rant. My own rendering if you will. 00siris wrote: Charging a photog-artist Stripper/Escort hourly rates for any genre is an insult Especially, if you got free pretty pictures in addition to the money and don't give up the "howdy hoo" after the shoot! Lol *sets his brush down and steps back to look at his work* I think that looks pretty good. If, I do say so myself.

I love the subject of this discussion, because if you really think about it, yes photographers have $1000's in equipment, but models have $1000's in wardrobe make-up and we still have to pay our rent too people. I can understand that if a photographer contacts me and wants to work with me, if his photography is something left to be desired, then I'll discuss a rate with him. If they're phenomonal, then I won't charge them. However, I get several photogs that have contacted me with they're rates. You know what I did, moved on to the next. But to say that "We're not here to give you free pictures" sounds kind of hypocritial, don't you think??? Food for thought....

Sindia wrote: I agree with both 00sirus & StaciF... I dont believe anyone should recieve unsolicated rates, from either model or photog. If someone really likes your work and asks your rates great... but if they haven't contacted you asking your rates dont push it on ppl. The same thing that happened to StaciF also happened to me, so i definitely understand where she is coming from! hmmm nice point how about this Sindia If a photographer contact you about working together there is a 50/50 chance you will do TFP, now if you contact a photographer there is a 99% chance you'll want a TFP. If you were to pay for a photoshoot it could lead to bigger and better things you never know. The same goes for photographers who hire top-notch models. It seems the unwritten rule here is silly. If you do contact a photographer for paid work do it in a prof. way not with the " I love your work , here are my rates".

Well, I'm not planning making money off of models, I plan on making money off my photos. When I get a paying client, both the model amd I get paid - a win-win situation. In the mean time, I am quite happy shooting TFP because of the collaboration with models. Besides, if I get a paying gig and I choose the model, who am I going to pick?

People are all different. If someone wants to work with you bad enough, they'll pay. If you want to work with them, you'll pay or negotiate a deal that benefits both photographer and model. Simple as that! No need to get all upset if someone sends you their rates. No body says we are "here to give (you) free pictures!" Now let me tell you the one about the model model who wanted me to "TFP" her wedding! OMG!!!! I was not insulted, instead I laughed so hard I had tears and nearly pee'd in my pants! Honestly! Thta is a true life story I have to tell, and I busted my gut laughing so hard! Too bad everyone can't take it as a joke! No hard feelings towards that model, I know she is not here ... OMG! Here I go laughing again!

Don't google "getting your head together", you may get a lot of self-help, positive thinking nonsense

It does depend on what the images are going to be used for, plus who wants it bad enough. If I want to hold 100% of the copyright, I'll pay the model. If the model or client wants the ownership, they pay for the images. Most of the time I enjoy "TFP" because I actually do better letting my creative juices flow without pressures ... and many times I even get better photos in "TFP" circumstances for that very reason! I welcome models sending me their rates! But it doesn't mean I'm going to shoot with them.
