hello.

today some man added me on yahoo messenger. he claimed he had seen my page on here, and wanted to see 'more' of me. I told him that if he signed up on here, as a professional should, I  would talk to him further. He went on to go psychotic on me, harrassing me, calling me a bitch and all that great stuff. He also went very racist.

I just wanted to warn all the ladies out there that if

[email protected] trys to add you on yahoo, HE ISNT A REAL PROFESSIONAL, HE IS A PERVERT! PLEASE DO NOT ADD THIS MAN!!!

It is very important as models we are careful with people who claim to 'dig our style' or 'be professionals'...

Have a great day:) Thanks for reading the post. Keep it safe..

to all (models in particular)...

putting your IM addies on your profile is like writing it on the bathroom wall. if you are NOT getting at least 10-20 pervs per day, you are probably not much of a looker.

why do you do this? MM profiles are visible to all on the net.

take your flippin IMs and email addresses off your public pages. geesh.

Umm...it's not the best thing to post your MSN, AIM or Yahoo IDs on a public site.  What do you expect to happen?  Why not post your phone number and see if anyone calls you.

Or encourage her and others to maintain a practice that leads to such unwanted incidents.

Take your pick.

this is how i see it as well

some things are kind of common sense and for those who don't realize it, there's not reason for us to be like, "Good catch!" when it's quite obvious why it happened.

I applaud her for wanting to warn us, I truly do, but it's not like we are going to truly be grateful to someone for telling us not to put our hand on the stove while it's turned on

but this is not an uncommon thing and, unfortunately, we see threads on this same matter all the time. It will never go away because people are basically handing these perverts their contact information

Part of my MM wishlist is to remove that section from profiles completely.  That way, people aren't encouraged to give out private contact info.  If they want to, they can put it in their bios.

If someone contacts you through MM, the mods can do something about it.  But if you hand out your contact info to the general public, you're on your own.

Of course this isn't what the OP wanted to hear, as she still has not just one, but three different IMs on her profile.  I'm no computer genius, but wouldn't it be relatively easy for an enterprising perv/stalker to find not just her name but her home address using IM names as a starting point?

...And I bet dollars to doughnuts she insists on an escort to "feel safe".

Unfortunately, having your IM address out there leaves you open to all kinds of people IMing you. (Which is why I rarely use it.) A thought tho... I don't know how to do such a thing, but couldn't be made that you can only have access to a MMer's IM if you're a MMer yourself?!? ie, you have to be signed on to MM, and have a valid profile, to see someone's IM. Just a thought.

I agree that people should not provide their contact information in their bio.
New models, or models just new to the model/photographer networking website, may not know this.  If we really want to put an end to this problem, we should ask Tyler to please remove these categories.  If someone is signing up here, during the registration process, they are asked for their yahoo messenger ID, ICQ ID, AIM ID, etc.  How would someone signing up for the first time know it's a problem is there are even special collumns for such information?

I didn't know that at first.  But I didn't fill them out because I don't use any messengers.

But I would like to thank the OP for warning other models who display this kind of information about this guy.

Along with that "Wish List" should be no cell phone photos. I still say that those all cell phone ports, like the OPs, encourage this kind of thing even more. It just screams non-professional and there fore probably a good Vic.

This is an entirely different subject that has been adressed many times in other threads.
I happen to think that cell phone photos are okay, because a model needs to start somewhere.  Photographers will see the cell phone photos and decide whether or not that model has potential.

I don't know what's dumber....posting the info...or the "model's" intent with NO INFO regarding physicality (measurements) etc.

There's a difference between having modeled before...and BEING a model.  The lack of info does little if anything to help a photographer guesstimate a potential project or use.  Unless I'm casting for a munch-kin shoot.

ps:  Do you know how easy it is to change a yahoo acct.?  So, any "warning" is
of a very short shelf-life.

I get perved on...  I get emails saying "Mmmmm you're so HoTTTtttt lookin' in x photo."  Inevitably I'm like, "dude, learn to read, I'm not the FUC*ing model.   There's a REASOn I'm on the side of the camera I'm on!"

I have mine up, and maybe its not very professional, but i don't talk to anyone that i haven't already talked to on MM and planned shoots with. its just a quicker way to discuss shoots. i've had people IM me, and if they havent contacted me on MM, i just ignore them, and block them if i need to. I dont think there is any need to get snippy. If people make their beds, let them lie in them. it was just a post of warning. be careful. ok we get it. dont talk to strangers. the site isnt stalker proof to begin with. k. im done. just had to say my bit. =P night all.

easily done by including the IM handle in your email to the photographer, and far less risk.

GREAT idea! Only MMer's should be able to see you IM addy & of course it still would be optional to post it or not...best post on the thread in my from opinion.

Well, some of you anyway. I have discovered that I get a lot more crap if I don't out myself first, before I am accused of something I am more than willing to confess to myself. And yet, I don't put my IM up either. I am on livejournal, myspace, and all those places, and I don't put up my IM. In fact, I have like 5 people on IM and they are all good friends. I don't add people to IM unless I actually want to talk to them. The only other 'IM' I have is gmail.

I may be a public airwaves perv, but I do not invite very many people into my private perviness, I consider it sacred.

You can set the security level of your messenger to not accept IM’s from people that are not on your friends list.

You can also pay for Y!TunnelPro ($22.50 ea) to act as a security for your messenger.
