Photogs...who hates that name?
Isn't there a better way to say photographer in fewer letters than photog? I just saw two thread titles with that...that WORD in them, and it really annoyed me. This is not a judgement about the people who wrote those titles, but rather a complaint about the general use of that word. Anybody else hate it? True that! May 25 06 04:56 pm Link I also hate the use of the word "photog" it makes the person using it sound as if they're trying to be "hip". May 25 06 05:03 pm Link Fhotogs... is that better lol May 25 06 05:03 pm Link Yes...'tog' is WELL hated by me, only slightly more than 'photogs'...who came up with that one, anyway? If you don't want to burn that extra .0001 calorie by saying 'photographer', I likely don't want to burn the several hundred it would take to shoot you. How about "Lord of the Lens" instead? May 25 06 05:05 pm Link I actually meant in fewer letters than photographer. It doesn't even have to be shorter than photog, just different. I prefer photographer, but I just get the feeling people are too lazy or slow typers to type out the entire word. All together now: photographer. Yes, it is a long word, but so is architect, and people don't run around calling them arche's....or maybe they do, but I don't think it has caught on yet. May 25 06 05:05 pm Link I don't hate it, per se, I hate the assumptions that go along with it. It's always "But... but... photographer has so many letters! P'leez don't make me spell it all the way out! I need those extra keystrokes for emoticons and lols and lmaos and shit like that. Photographer is just too big! U r a meenie photog and ppl like u make me !!" Sheez. Just type out the rest of the damn letters. I suppose if you're plucking away with your index fingers and staring at the keyboard as you type, those six letters might extend your posting time. But you'll get zero sympathy from me. But what do I know? I'm just a dinosaur who -on top of still using film- does not even abbreviate the term Make-up Artist. It was all I could do to keep from laughing in the face of a model who actually said to me "I prefer to work with em-yoo-aze..." May 25 06 05:08 pm Link Hate both photog and tog. Shooter doesn't bother me. Perhaps because it's a complete word? May 25 06 05:12 pm Link im rly trd f da trnd f tryg 2 abrvt evrtng. May 25 06 05:17 pm Link Someone once called me the Foto Guy, lol! May 25 06 05:18 pm Link I prefer 'mystic seer and visionary'. But that's just me. May 25 06 05:20 pm Link Shooters too close to Shitter, Tog's to close to Dog and Photog's too close to Frog. But does it realy matter? Hell, you can call me Dork as long as the check clears May 25 06 05:26 pm Link Rich Mohr wrote: Yeah, just like the "cable" guy,lol May 25 06 05:29 pm Link Photog reminds me of a cat caughing up a hairball or something ....but in all fairness in my mind it sounds more like "photoghhh...." Or, maybe someone speaking german spitting out a profanity. haha! Yea, I find it annoying too. If you wanna call me something shorter call me a PG (PhotoGrapher)or something i dunno. May 25 06 05:37 pm Link gwc is shorter than photographer and easier to type. Krista!!! you live! May 25 06 06:08 pm Link We shorten all words, don't be offended. Do we write Mister or Mr.? Street or St.? Road or Rd.? Parkway or pkwy? Blvd? WTF? OMG? LOL? LMAO? MM? OMP? www? info? OK, I stop. May 25 06 06:09 pm Link Just don't call me late for happy hour. I've been called worse lol May 25 06 06:14 pm Link Tog is used a lot on UK based boards. The English photographers don't seem to mind it. May 25 06 06:26 pm Link The Person Behind The Camera Taking The Picture. How's that? May 25 06 06:28 pm Link Damn double post! May 25 06 06:29 pm Link No big deal. I don't care what someone wants to call me .. even GWC .... I am a guy with a camera ... who cares ... if I manage to get some decent pics that please all those that need to be pleased, i'm fine with whatever label someone chooses to use. May 25 06 07:12 pm Link Long as you don't call me late for dinner, i'm cool. May 25 06 07:13 pm Link Ian Weintraub wrote: It's fewer letters, but it's more syllables. You pick it LOL May 25 06 07:55 pm Link I was called Shooter in the Navy, so I'm very accustomed to that. :-) Wm May 25 06 08:22 pm Link Abslutly nthng wrng w/it & its quckr 2 type. May 25 06 08:40 pm Link photog=6 letters photog-rapher=12 letters If you come up with a better alternative I might use it. But photog doesn't bother me, and I use it a lot because I'm lazy. May 25 06 08:44 pm Link DreamPretty wrote: And exactly how many letters -including spaces- did you use typing out that post? Way to many to convince me that you're lazy, that's for sure. May 25 06 08:56 pm Link I suggest calling photographers "phots". It's even shorter than "photogs"! May 25 06 10:09 pm Link Second Glance wrote: I'm uncomfortable being called "Shooter in the Navy" considering I've never been in the Navy. May 25 06 10:10 pm Link Yep. Hate photog and tog the same way I hate the realtor that tells me a $450,00 one bedroom condominium is a good deal for an entry level prchase. I'd rather be called "ASSCLOWN" (Don't get any funny ideas, now.) May 25 06 10:19 pm Link Mark Reese Photography wrote: I know, huh... It is an ugly word! May 25 06 10:25 pm Link Adrienne Aurora wrote: lol I completly agree! May 25 06 10:30 pm Link Who really cares??????????????? Call me whatever you want...just keep calling (and giving me money). May 25 06 10:38 pm Link I don't mind photog, it's like photo instead of photograph. There's been a magazine called "Photo" for decades. But for myself I do try to spell everything out. It may not be not fun, but it's educational. The abbreviations that drive me nuts are "sup, peeps?", "port", "ho" and "yo,yo,yo." To me that's total "iggernance". May 25 06 10:49 pm Link |
