ANYONE can do porn

I don't know about that, but Ron Jeremy does give hope to all the overweight hairy guys in the world.  Go Ron!

Sadly though, he is blessed in one area which many of us are not.

Strippers don't dance to it because it bites... they play some heavy duty "let's get it on music."

I'd much rather watch some porn to Kid Rock than "boink-chicky-boink-boing..." in the background.

It is a short cut to fame and it does exploit women.

they do it because they want to -- they dont care about to social stigma associated with porn.

they don't give no fucks. it's a good thing. and they're making money. lots of it.

you know, i often wonder why more girls you see every day aren't in porn.

getting paid to do something you do anyway? getting paid 300-1000 for a scene that doesnt take more than a few hours at most to film? [or if it's done all in one take as little as 1 hour]

i call them time wasters.

...man, that is so not right. hmm

There are better ways to up your self esteem like getting an education and not spreading your legs. What message does that send to young girls out there who are teased a lot for their looks?

You mean like MODELING? That if you're not the perfect type you get nothing. When in adult there is work for every type? And did you have any idea that MANY of the women in the adult industry have degrees and advanced degrees? Tera Patrick has a degree in bio-chemical engineering. I asked her once WTF is she doing porn. her answer, she loves to fuck and makes more money doing adult.

Asia Carrera has a degree in literature. When asked her answer was. I make more money doing porn. It's a choice. And it's a hell of a lot more honest than a model sitting there in a thong covering her tits with her legs spread. WTF is that selling?

I know a couple of women in the industry who have their Law Degree.

its surprising to me how many actually have a higher education, and on top of that graduate degrees.

you forgot Shy Love in your list of well-educated adult actreses tongue

According to a discussion we were having on another board, the reason for this is that the music is *cheap.* It's the musical equivalent of bad stock photography. Also, anybody who has *good* music to license doesn't want it in a porn video, because it is then essentially unsalable to any other client.

LOL at this thread...hilarious! With reagrds to the comments about music, I agree with the previous comments.

Me and my boyfriend were talking about the music of one particular porn film while *ahem* "reviewing" it! LOL It stood out because the music was actually pretty good which is a damn far cry frm many of these you see. With the cheesy "Ahh-chica-oww" type beats! lol I do think many songwriters don't want their music associated with porn and that's why so much of it is bad. very bad.

well, not to digress, if it's possible to digress in this outstanding thread.... but while it's technically possible to consider Midnight Cowboy "porn" depending on how strictly you go by dictionary definitions and which definitions you go by... by any sane, rational, normal everyday laymen's (pun cannot be helped) understanding of what porn is, calling Midnight Cowboy "porn" would have to be one of the stupidest utterances in the history of human communication!

Has no one here actually watched the movie? Is no one willing to stand up and say, uh, excuse me, did you just say that Dustin Hoffman, John Voight and John Schlesinger made a porno? Did you just say that one of the greatest movies ever made was porn? Did you just say that a movie with barely any nudity and no graphic fucking was porn? Did you just assume that because it originally had an X rating (re-rated a couple of years later as "R") that makes it porn? Did you do that at the same time you were talking about someone else’s ignorance about porn, or in talking about something you don't know anything about?

Well, It takes a hell of a lot of talent to make it look GOOD. Not anyone can do that., including a lot of those wo do it as a profession.

Personally I think it's just a short cut to fame. It's no secret that they throw you away when you're about 25 and you are no longer the next hot thing. It's a very disposable industry.

And modeling isn't a disposable industry? See if you can get any fasion jobs when your 30.

If you model you are using your body to make money, so don't be so full of yourself and act like you are better than everyone else.

but I do have to agree with DJ..(oh dear, has hell frozen over tongue) these women are not forced into it...the main reason they do it is for the money...there would not be an supply if there was not a demand...they have a legit place in the industry. Well heck then... they should get some music from small local bands...   Those local bands would love to sell some of their music to anyone who will buy (not all of them - but the really hungry ones will) the local bands know how to jam too...

We should petition to have a rating system on all porn videos music soundtracks... 1 to 5 stars for the system... 1 being total crap ("you probably won't be able to get in the mood unless you are deaf it's so bad") & 5 being tolerable ("let's take it off and get naughty - we can ignore the cheesey background tunes...")

So I think we should erect temples and honor the porn. And it should be a requirement of ALL hot models to have done porn. *With me no less* LOL Well at least Reese and Theda should.... I am curious - I don't know much about the porn industry...  but I noticed on other websites (just one) it is listed as "Adult Entertainment," and many refer to the stars or performers if one will, as "models..."  Are Porn Stars / Actresses models per say?  I am sure that they do / can model - but are they "models?" I don't know... I have never dealt with that part of the industry (is it part of the industry?)

Then I am curious, when they are "acting"  are they really acting?  Because I don't see how they are "acting" like they are having sex. They are indeed having sex...  I know, it's a dumb as heck question -but I am just curious.

I am in no way casting judgement on anyone in the industry - but I am curious as to how exactly one categorizes those who partake in that particular field.

Porn stars are just glamour models turned bad.

When a porn can make me cry and make me feel all fuzzy inside that is when I can actually consider it entertainment, until then, it's just going to be people doing the nasty on film.

Yeah, there is actually a site called 'glamourmodelsgonebad'. Honestly, porn models are hard workers..they know how to make their $$$. There is nothing wrong with porn...

If your ethics get in the way, don't watch it. I have tons of friends that are porn stars (Gina Lynn, etc) So I am used to it. Although I don't DO porn...heck...free will.

Who am I to judge?

...like I said ANYONE can do porn, it does not require talent, just a lack of self respect.

while i'm not going to put myself in the crossfire of the pissing contest going on between ms. paris and dj, i will comment on the "anyone can do porn" statement.

never in the history of the XXX industry has there been such an abundance of ready, willing, and able young sex performers. there are way more young women seeking porn employment than there are porn scenes being shot.  just like in other related fields, e.g., modeling, acting, the competition for the jobs and the money has become fierce. the days of a barely attractive chick basically showing up with an apathetic willingness to spread her legs are over and have been over for some time.  these days, it's all about the youngest, the prettiest, and the most sexually voracious. i've seen girls come into the adult biz who were marginally attractive (if that) and lackluster performers work maybe once or twice and it's over for them... in fact, make that "once," cuz some of these wannabees don't even get a chance at "twice." and the "once" opportunity they got was probly for a very low-end, low-paying gig.

Did you do that at the same time you were talking about someone else’s ignorance about porn, or in talking about something you don't know anything about?

The Piano was definitely more graphic from what I remember, but still not really graphic and also about as far from porn as can be. But Harvey's always showing those bits! Taxi Driver, Holy Smoke, and I think some others I can't recall. He masturbated in front of the teenage girl in lieu of giving her a ticket in Bad Lieutenant, but I don't think he actually showed anything.

So anyway, why did you use that example if you knew it wasn't true and why tell her she's wrong when you know she's right? You can dislike her all you want and disagree with a lot of her views, but it's just silly to argue with the obvious truth. I mean you know what she means when she's talking about "talent" and quality. One of the general questions in the topic was whether porn stars are actors or models, well it should go without saying in a strictly technical sense. Of course they are.

But when she's talking about "talent" there's not a single person here who doesn't understand she means acting talent! Not fucking talent, not a talent for keeping it up or a talent for squirting on the ceiling, deep throating (how timely!) or taking two cocks up the Hershey highway at the same time! Those things are skills or abilities, and it may or may not be easy to do in a crowd or for the camera, let alone at all,  but they have fuck all, so to speak, to do with acting talent and anyone who doesn't understand that is a total imbecile! And I don't think you or DJ are imbeciles, so what exactly are your motives?

Even back in the day when they at least made a pretense of trying to have a semblance of a story and use some limited sort of acting, porn was at best amusing in a corny, campy way. The dreamy and lovable Annette Haven and Desiree Cousteau could actually act a little bit as I remember, but no serious person would mistake any of those old porno's with real film art or great acting, gimmie a break! As far as I could tell things only got worse from there and degenerated into pretty much nothing more than non-stop fucking & sucking without wasting the time on the lame attempts at redeeming content which made some of the early "classics" so lovable. Has it really changed for the better since those days or are you guys just being ridiculous?

See, now that's a matter of opinion. I would say the Piano was essentially pornographic in parts, although not fully a porn film and it did lack the gential close-ups we've become accustomed to.  I would also say that a film winning the oscar for best picture despite the fact that it was about extremely taboo sexual matters (to the point that the MPAA felt the need to give it that X rating) is also quite relevant. Caligula is another example of of a largely pornographic film that a number of people consider well-made on multiple levels. Andrew Blake's films are also beautifully made and pretty undeniably pornographic. There are still pornographic films being made that have plots and dialogue and the acting of that type is generally on par with most of the student films I've seen, which is of course, pretty bad.

I also completely disagree that porn actors do not have acting talents. Few if any of them display a *range* of acting ability, but to convince an audience that you're actually in a midst of a genuine and enjoyable sex act under those conditions requires *acting* talent. The physical prowess required by the actors in porn is another skill set altogether and I wasn't the one bringing up the more detailed tricks one must master for that. That's a horse of a different color and not what I personally was referring to when I said porno requires talent.

Alexandra said porn required no talent and anyone could have sex on film. She did not say "acting" talent. She completely dismissed the very possibility that pornograohy was a difficult discipline that requires a multitude of skills and talents in order to be successful (and yeah, there is ACTING involved). I don't know why you assumed that she meant acting talent only and I further don't understand why you would think the rest of us would draw that conclusion. We foolishly took what Alexandra said to be what she meant.

Caligula is another example of of a largely pornographic film that a number of people consider well-made on multiple levels.

Just so you know - and you probably do, so just so everybody else knows - a lot of the really graphic parts of "Caligula" were filmed at night, with a different production crew and while most of the name actors were not on set. This was because while everybody knew it was going to be a big decadent Roman Empire movie, not everybody knew it was going to be, to be vulgar, a fuck flick, and Guccioni didn't *want* them to know, because they might have backed out. Gore Vidal, who did the original screenplay and was involved in the filming of the "real movie" parts, was absolutely furious when he found out. IIRC the movie was going to be distributed with his name prominent, like "Gore Vidal's Caligula" or something like that, but he demanded his name be removed.

I may be misremembering some of this - it's on the director's cut DVD featurettes and it's been a while since I watched them - but the broad gist of it is correct. smile

Some other movies that come to mind readily are "9 1/2 Weeks," "Angel Heart," and "Blue Orchid," (oh, that mischevious Mickey!) "Wild Things," "A Clockwork Orange," and "Henry and June."

I could probably think of more but I'm too lazy. smile
