I would venture to say it is you that needs the attitude adjustment.

Ladies, you will find that you often get back from this place what you bring to the table. It is somewhat foolish to enter someone else's hangout/place/home/whatever and start telling them how terrible they are, or what they are doing wrong that needs to change.

Making one of your first posts in a forum the equivalent of "you people suck! But I'd like to be friends with the ones that will kiss my ass" will just establish YOU as a diva.

Making one of your first posts in a forum the equivalent of "how dare you do or say something that offends me. Change the rules so that I can sleep better at night" will just establish you as a diva.

Well, I think I know what you're talking about.  I've noticed that many models will come onto MM with a simple (perhaps naive) question or query, and will be inundated with a bunch of snide and snarky put downs.

Yes, I'm consider myself an industry veteran, but I don't consider some of these sarcastic responses to posters, especially new ones, either clever or insightful.

There is a real nasty trend afoot on MM.  Sure some people ask some questions that have been asked many times before, but I don't think people have to jump down their throats for it.   Some people ask for help and advice and get insulted for it.

Well we can't train people to not behave badly online.  The internet is a lot like liquor, it exposes the worst side of a lot of folks.   And our internal etiquette filter is often turned off due to the anonymous nature of posts.

There is only one advantage of that behavior of which you speak, and that is it forces the model (in training) or the new photographer into having a thick skin.  That is one trait that everyone will have to have in the industry, we might as well get it from an MM forum.

Anyway that's my 2 cents.  Good luck.

Oh and BTW: I think that MM only has a rule against all caps in post titles, not the body of the message, but I may be wrong ... smile

The site clearly notifies you where to find the rules, and where to find the FAQs *before* you post anything when you sign up.

Look, if you break your new toaster when you try to use it the first time after taking it out of the box, you can't blame the manufacturer if they included the directions on top of the box.

You're lucky I'm not fully awake... I'm usually much less nice... ask anyone... they'll tell you... this is nice for me.

It is called "netiquette" and it is quite a wonderful thing.

Why?

Because it encourages a self-governing set of rules and decorum within the chaotic forum of Internet culture.

Hence, when people correct improper netiquette, the civilized and mature way to respond is with gracious thanks and appreciation.

The "how" behind the way you type your message IS important and relevant on any Internet forum. Since you are new to this, be thankful that people are schooling you.

Do you people not read the rules... like... ever?

It's mm forum rule #1

SOME BASIC FORUM RULES

[1] No SHOUTING (Posting in all capital letters) Especially in thread titles. It's hard to read and just plain rude and annoying.

Then again, if such decorum "really doesn't matter" to you, then perhaps you are not suited for being a part of civilized communities. Perhaps.

If, on the other hand, you were grateful that folks took the time to correct your faux pas, and you responded accordingly, that might speak far more highly of your character than ranting and condescension.

Hello ma'am.  i have a question that i'd like to ask and would not like it to be taken personal.  Hopefully we can resolve this issue without it turning nasty, as that is not my intent in anyway shape or form.

But don't you think that it would behoove someone who makes an initial post to a community of people that lam blasts them for being rude and impolite, to follow the simple rules of etiquette set forth IN that community so that that person is not being rude and impolite themselves?

Seems as if that would stand to reason.

Also do you posts thread like this just so you can have people be in agreement with you?  because I notice you only thanked those people that nodded their heads in a solemn agreement, rather than those that showed a more dissenting view, or those that pointed out the hypocrisy of your statement by showing you your own disregard for politeness and etiquette on the net and in this established intra-web community.

Hopefully these question prove thought provoking and non inflammatory to you since that's the last thing i would ever want to do smile.
