For instance..I worked with a male photographer who did flawless make-up, had three different styles ready..(all of which he bought and picked out) and captured some amazing images. Yes..there was a down side..It took a longer to get started because we were doing all the work alone..but it went great.

Uh...me. And I am also a model. I think Benny also is all 4. However, I started in art school behind the camera and with painting, which is not so different than mua and wardrobe styling just requires a lot of clothes of different sizes and a lot of creativity, of which I have both. I also have over 300 pieces of jewelry because I am a jewelry designer too. Did I mention that i also design sets and do collage? And I have a home studio I rent out. Basically, I am your source for connections in Chicago . And I am a moderator too. Also, I am modest. You can see my other ports by following the links on this one. As a model you may know me as Lapis.

Dave Wright Photo wrote: Ever heard the phrase, "jack of all trades, master of none?" How true. Why do you see so many people on a professional fashion shoot? I mean there is the model, the art director, the MUA, the hair stylists, the waredrobe stylists, the set designer and of course the photographer all working together as a team. Each one these people are experts (masters) in what they do and the end result is one amazing photoshoot and a photo going into Italian Vogue. Having one person doing all this by themselves would compromise the quality of the work. So if you are looking for work as MUA, then spend all your efforts mastering your craft. Top companies don't hire "jack of all trades" when they want the best work to be done.

Such narrow minded artist... how sad :-( YES the industry likes to hire pros in their perspective fields... However the arts are all so closely entwined, why does it seem impossible to you...? That one artist can be a Total Look Artist at the highest caliberâ¦â¦?!? I welcome any one to judge for your selfâs and visit me websites... Critic my Total Look Arts for your selfâ¦â¦: 1) Photography, 24yrs practicing and degreed. 2) Hair Stylist, Licensed since 19yr old practicing since av9yr old. 3) Make-Up Artist, 1st place competition at 19yr practicing since. & 4) Graphic Artist Extraordinar ~ great enough to be working on David Fincher's new movie with Brad Pittâ¦. âCurious Case of Benjamin Buttonâ . I can create a an entire shoot from hair to touch-up with stunning results yet of course when the Budget allows my clients a full team will always choose to work with a full team for all that I donât do and even do better than most but wont to spread the wealth n knowledge... NOW, WHAT'S WRONG WITH THAT.... (^_^) ⦠Oh and about top production companies not hiring Jack of all trades is totally bunkâ¦.! I was hired for this 100million$+â¦. Just as that âJackâ (^_^) If you look at most all great âGREAT ARTISTâ in the world they where highly-multi-talented and usually was noticed for one of their minor arts only to be noticed world wide for one of their other talents. When I first lauched into fashion photography I had to dapple a little in wardrobe and even makeup and hair out of desperate necessity (I even, god help us, did a bit of modelling). The experiences were valuable however: I have a greater understanding and appreciation of what the shooting team does because of them. I've been told the best film directors are the ones with an intimate knowledge of what everyone else does on set and in post.

Imagine what could be done if a team of specialists got together. A bit harsh don't you think for this thread. The use of the team is not just because different things cannot be done better by one but also because of time constraints. Many here use assistants. Many can model, but shooting yourself is a different issue. Many makeup artist can do hair better than the hair person but due to time constraints it is not done. Just because you are not a model in Italian Vogue does not mean you do not have validity. Of course you have so many stories in Italian Vogue that you can judge the rest, Right?

Oh, by the way. Research David Sorrenti, A friend who is no longer with us who had a nice little career. He often did his own makeup and Styling. Maybe not Italian Vogue if I can recall but I will have to check. Damn Close anyway.

OK well, I'm not a pro but I can put makeup on my models, I can dress/style them up, and I can difinately shoot their pictures, and I can model...though I don't really do it because I don't think I'm that beautiful. Out of all the pictures I've taken so far I did everything myself and helps from my models. Though I would really appreciate it, if I can find MUA and Stylist out there, so I don't have to keep comming up with my own things!

So you tell me if I am mess up.

It takes a load off your shoulders. You can actaully focus on your photography. You decide on the lighting and the meter the lights, choose the background, etc. You can let the MUA and stylist do their thing. Of course you will have to check with the MUA and stylist to approve their work.

So if I have those photo assistants that know me and I have done the production on the shoot, so all the right equipment is there, would I not have more time to be creative? Or is taking a light reading being creative? Oh, Choosing a background. There is a hard one. What happens if someone gets sick and you cannot get someone last minute? Do you cancel the shoot or have the photo assistant do the hair?
