INSTRUCTIONS:

This is an open contest for everyone.

The winner will be awarded the absolutely fabulous cash prize of $9.99.

Contest ends October 1, 2006.

Submissions are to be made by posting to this thread.

Submissions will be judged by a panel of muses, with the winner posted here at the close of the contest.

(Yes virginia-this is serious.)

*******************************************

THE CONTEST:

We need a simple, original, generic (yet descriptive) term for the creative counterpart to the generic (yet descriptive) term "MUSE".

I.E. : If you are a muse, what does that make the ENTITY you are a muse for? (besides damn lucky!)

The word can already exist, or you can create it.
(Creating language is hard work, but someone has to do it!)

The winner will enjoy a sumptuous sum of nine dollars and ninety nine cents in real cash money, and the chance to become a creator of a pop culture term that will be used by hundreds, or thousands, or millions, or or or-well, you get the picture.

LET THE CONTEST BEGIN!

KINDLER

(Plus, it rolls off the tongue saying: "A Kindler and his/her Muse.")

The word muse is commonly known as the entity that can inspire an artist.

What's wrong with artist?

The muses have put "KINDLER" in first place thus far.

Thanks and keep'em coming!

Nothing per se...it is just a "too broad" term-we are seeking a term as specific as "muse".

Thanks!

There, to me, seems to be a certain necessity for combustion. An artist describes one who creates art...but this doesn't actually speak to how (s)he fuels/inspires/awakens/feeds the subject. If not all models are muses, not all artists are...kindlers. Each acting as a catalyst pushing the other to more spectacular ends than they normally attain (ideally).

Maybe I'm working too hard at this, but wouldn't a kindler be "one who kindles", and therefore would describe the muse, not the artist?

Agreed.  Muse is that entity which inspires, kindles, thus kindler.

Can't use kindalini or kundalini either.

So you are looking for the term of for only artists that have been inspired by muses....

The muse is the subject. The right viewer/capturer/creator will "kindle" the natural awe and wonder in a muse. The interraction is indeed symbiotic...so if we're arguing over the semantics of it, both the special artist and model are technically muses, and there is no need to acquire a new term (just using 'Muse' interchangeably).

My first thought would be - Pygmalion - after the sculptor who crafted Galatea.

Not simple though.

How about - Fury.  Another elemental force, creative or destructive, action to the inspiration.

You be my Muse I'll be your Fury.

hmmmm....pygmalion is interesting! (we've popped it into the running along with "kindler")

simpler would be nice-but we like

fury is too strong we thinks-though an interesting concept you've presented...thanks!

KM von Seidl is right, the proper term is "Artist"...  The aritst is inspired by the Muse (in Greek mythology, they were 9 sisters (who were goddeses), who inspired the song-writers, Poets, and Artists (technically the scientists too, but most science in that time was also considered art - davinci, et al.).

"Muse" is already a broad term; As defined by Webster's it means "a source of inspiration"

Why are we trying to redefine the language?

Haven't we slaughtered it enough with "TFPs" and "GWCs"?

Let spend more time creating great photography and less trying to come up with new  annoying phrases :-)
