Is onemodelplace worth it?
Just wanted to hear from models and photographers, et al. It seems like the minimum amount is $10 a month (hard to figure even that out, so complicated). Is it worth it to you, and why/how? Jun 02 06 01:43 pm Link Im a platinum member but I get a lot of paid work from there so it pays for itself. Jun 02 06 01:45 pm Link I had a paid membership and didn't get much of anything from it. I make way more contacts here. I also find modelplace.com to better. Jun 02 06 01:47 pm Link MM is the best. Jun 02 06 01:48 pm Link Cary, that's good to hear. It's also good that other make contacts there as well. If I can ever find their pricing page again thru their maze of a site, I'll look at the different levels. Anyone else find benefit? Jun 02 06 01:50 pm Link I thought they were very lacking in Customer Service Skills and downright rude to boot. The transition for photographers from free page with access to some services to photographer page is paid only was done very clumsily and caused me to bail on them. I like it much better here on Model Mayhem!! Jun 02 06 01:52 pm Link If you have a strong portfolio, the first few months are worth it, in my opinion. Especially if you have something to offer novice models, you can get a lot of trade shoots. Casting for paid work (as in I have a client who is paying, and I'm trying to find models) is like pulling teeth. Not worth it anywhere. Not even here. I still have an open call for paid work and can't find appropriate models, there, here, or anywhere. Jun 02 06 01:52 pm Link I'm a platinum member and I get about 1 request a month as opposed to 4 to five a month on MM. I have been considering dropping OMP for some time now. Jun 02 06 01:52 pm Link I was a platinum member for over a year....just cancelled my membership with them 2 days ago and removed my entire portfolio. when I was looking for TFP work it was ok....sometimes.....but now that I am doing paid assignments I have no need for it. I just need one place to show people my work. I am happy that I said goodbye to OMP Jun 02 06 01:53 pm Link Just a quick reminder: no bashing other portfolio sites. Discussion is fine, but bashing will result in this thread being closed. Thanks, BD, MM Moderator Jun 02 06 01:53 pm Link I think they should consider opening up the castings to all users.... It would make the forum more valuable for both models & clients, no? Jun 02 06 01:59 pm Link I was on OMP for 5 years. I JUST dropped my Plat plus membershio with them. Pricey, a LOT of Porn models (I do mostly art nudes so I probably had more of those contacts than the adverage photographer there to be honest), TONS of hits there as opposed to here but actually no more models than I'm getting here. That used to not be true but over the past year the number of models with a web cam portfolio, underage models an porn girls overpowered the art models. And there ther is the wave of 5"5" (or LESS) "fashion models". But that's here too???? So After years of great service and great returns, last year was crapppy so I dumpped them. MM has it's problems with searches and referrals that were better on OMP but the price is way better (Even paid memberships are much less..at least now). PS as a photographer on OMP you need to be Gold or better to do well with showcasing, models etc. And it's not till Plat you can kill the obnoxious ad banners on your profile. Mike Jun 02 06 02:01 pm Link I'll likely give it up after my membership comes due in September. Iâm just not seeing the ROI for the money paid. I do like the site but I get more models through MM than OMP. What I do I like about OMP? - The search page is robust. - Models and Photographers have to check off genre categories that they shoot (i.e. nude work) which is helpful in determining who to contact and who not to contact - Showcase images. I'm not a fan of how they are selected (very subjective) but they do drive models to me for work. - new model notifications I hoping that with the paid membership that MM will incorporate some of these feature so it will be a no-brainer decision come September. Jun 02 06 02:02 pm Link As a model, OMP has provided me with more paid work, and the travel notices are great. MM is good to meet artists, but not as good to pay the bills. Have met some great artists as well as paying clients on omp. Jun 02 06 02:03 pm Link I was a silver member for 3 years, and finally let it expire. I didn't get very much work from the site, and what hits I did get were from models with cell phone photos on their pages looking for $300 an hour with a four hour minimum. I like this site much better it has a more relaxed, friendly feel. Jun 02 06 02:08 pm Link I joined OMP about 5 months ago as a non-paid member and had just one request for a paid shoot. For a while, I tried contacting photogs who were traveling to my area but never had a response. OMP is good about getting travel notices out. However, it's kind of difficult to communicate through their system since they flitter out URLs or any references to other sites. I have not been compelled to sign up for a paid membership. Jun 02 06 02:10 pm Link Christopher Ambler wrote: Christopher, I am a Plat member at OMP and I cannot put the MM URL in my profile. Jun 02 06 02:14 pm Link OMP was not worth it for me, simply because I found the site so difficult to navigate. However, someone more computer savvy than me might not have the same problem. Short answer: it depends. Jun 02 06 02:15 pm Link markcomp wrote: http://www.onemodelplace.com/photograph … _ID=168040 is me - you'll see plenty of URLs in my profile. Perhaps they're specifically filtering MM? That wouldn't surprise me. Jun 02 06 02:18 pm Link I've had more flakes and no shows from OMP. MM is the best place for me. Jun 02 06 02:19 pm Link Christopher Ambler wrote: That must be it because my personal web site is not filtered. It often logs me off. I like the idea behind it though with all the individual selections in choosing a model. Jun 02 06 02:22 pm Link I am very disappointed with OMP. When I first joined as a rank newbie photographer, I lined up several good shoots with good, experienced models. After a few months, nothing more came from it, even though my work continually improved. Lowly bronze / beginner members are buried low in the pecking order and made difficult to find. The initial success was due to "new photographer" messages sent to model members. I have shot with many MM models that are also on OMP. Most don't even bother to leave a "worked with"! For me, MM clearly rules with Model Place an up-and-coming second. Model Crystal Darden (see recent portfolio images) was my first model to be arranged through Model Place. Only after the shoot did I know she was also on MM. Jun 02 06 02:23 pm Link Something else I remembered about OMP that I found to be bothersome........ A few months back, I was responding to a "public acknowledgement" - one of the "desire to work with" comments. In my message back to the model, I mentioned that I maintained portfolios on MuseCube, MM, MP, etc., where she could see other work not shown in the OMP port. I did this because my website was in its re-build phase at the time and was not running. I got an auto-generated response message from the OMP servers that said the "message could not/would not be sent until all references to MuseCube were removed" - it may have mentioned other sites as well. Jun 02 06 02:35 pm Link I'm a Platinum member there, and because I'm on the go a lot, the travel notices are very helpful for me, as well as when models are coming my way. The other thing that's good is that they do a better job of protecting your images on the site. Not that you CAN'T get the pictures through some other ways than right-clicking, etc., but it's not as easy as being on other sites. I'm all for using as many venues possible to network. As long as it's doing the trick for me, I'm going to keep using it, and others. Jun 02 06 02:36 pm Link markcomp wrote: They don't allow any mention of MM. I asked someone who works there because I had a sentence in my profile saying to view my model mayhem page that kept getting deleted. Not that it just says "My MM# is...." it is ok. Jun 02 06 02:37 pm Link OMP was great in its time, but times change. I get as much work here as I ever did there. Jun 02 06 02:37 pm Link Lapis wrote: me too, I agree exactly Jun 02 06 02:38 pm Link I only have five photos there, because I can't afford a better membership. I don't get many refferals from there because of that. My schedule is pretty much full until July, and that's all from MM. :0). I don't like it. I never update things. Once, I sent a photographer who expressed interest in working with me a message through OMP, and tried to include my MM URL so he could see more photos, and they deleted the whole message because it's apparently against the rules to send someone a link to a better portfolio. Jerks. I had to rewrite the whole thing, and I still gave him my ID#. That photographer signed up for a MM account when he got my message. *Edit. New information added. Jun 02 06 02:43 pm Link I've been asking myself the same question. I'm a Silver Level member on OMP, but I had downgraded to the Bronze Level (which is free), but then when a photographer friend of mine had told me about the swimsuit competition, I wanted to give it a shot (not just that, but also other future contests I may qualify for) so I upgraded back to Silver Level. It doesn't even bother me to not win OMP contests. It just feels good knowing that I gave it a shot and did have some people support me by voting. Also I like receiving the OMP casting call e-mails and the photographer travel notifications. If it wasn't for the travel notifications, I probably wouldn't have known that Marc Mauro (of QuestionMarc in New York) is coming to Maryland. ![]() ![]() Jun 02 06 02:46 pm Link Jenia wrote: I agree, I'm on OMP but have a free account and there is a fashion show casting here for Atlanta but unfortunately I can't see the info Jun 02 06 02:46 pm Link Mike Walker wrote: You just listed all the reasons I let my very low number account lapse there just a couple of months ago. Jun 02 06 02:48 pm Link Hey, I can look up the casting call info for you and e-mail you the full details, if you'd like. ![]() Jun 02 06 02:54 pm Link I love omp- to me its definately worth it! Rude doesn't begin to describe their lack of Service. /tim Jun 02 06 02:59 pm Link For photographers OMP isn't half as useful. I was a member of OMP for about five years, but I let my membership lapse this year as the investment wasn't worth the return. In my entire time on OMP I met about as many new models as in my one year on MM. For models though, OMP is well worth it. Paid jobs are common and come from all sorts of sources from individuals to companies. Jun 02 06 03:06 pm Link |
