In NJ $80/hour for nudity is very reasonable. What people tend to forget is if a model signs a contract where the photographer can do anything he wants with the images then he can use them for artistic things, sell them or put them on a glamour website. The thing is that in our society nude images are worth more money. There is a reason why tasteful nude glamour websites do so well, like M&B, Playboy, Pinup Glam, Xtreme photography, Finest Models, etc. People are willing to pay to see beautiful nude women. It is that simple.

I have to disagree with this.  There is a lower bar for quality in a lot of nude work because, as GWC says, we like b(o)(o)bies, so technical metir can be more readily pushed aside.  But really, a commercially viable image is rarely nude and commands much more bling than fine art, glamour or porn. It's only within the limited internet market that nudity is often worth more.

Tony M wrote:
To couch this as paying for sex or negotiating a price for sex, (whether it be between $100 or $1 million now we are just negotiating on the price), is insulting because you have an underlining presumption that posing nude is unseemly and is the equivalent to have sex with someone. IF nudes don't float your boat that is one thing, but others don't think so and the do not equate it to pornography or sex.or being immoral like the negotiation for sex argument implies. There are plenty of glamorous nudes that are not unseemly or pornographic and the photog can get a good price for them.

Nudes clearly float my boat, but if you are charging per body part, you've already objectified yourself far beyond the capabilities of many pimps. Consider what is being done with the photographs more than what is being done in them.

I agree,  I'm not sure of the Georgia rate, that could be a shade high for that neck of the woods, but it's not unreasonable.

So when so do ya want to come to NY to shoot?

Maybe in your mind it is. I can get, and have gotten, nude art models [mostly college/university age] to sit for photos for 30 bucks an hour [150 a DAY]. On the other hand I can get experienced models that do "adult" work, young and more or less as average as any internet wannabe, to sit for as little as $200 a DAY and even actually have sex on camera for a bit more [solo = ca $350 a DAY]

So unless you, or any other internet wannabe "mod...doo," are somehow worth 5 times that much... which I doubt... forget it.

Lots of opinions here. So, what do you do? I say put $80/hour up on your profile for the b(o)(o)bies and see what happens. Time will tell.

Here in Canada, rates range from $50/hr to $150/hr...

Of course, I choose the $50/hr model cause she's more realistic, and she's a good nude/artistic nude model.

I don't pay for implied nudes.

Nude/Art models from local schools are available for $20-$30/hour. Most are young and physically fit and totally into artistic posing (Nothing erotic!) and holding the pose.

I've paid $75/hour for implied, but I was shooting for my stock portfolio.  I don't know what most people here actually shoot for.  It seems like it's all for fun around here, so I don't know if my figure is worth anything to you.

Hmmm this is still going on.  Many of the photographers here are hobbists so
the real issue is how much can you spend on your hobby?  If you are going to
make your money back $80.00 is resonable but if its only negative cash flow then
it adds up very quickly.  Most photographers would be better with art school models.  Not for explict poses but figure art poses and many will accept $50.00
or less per hour believe me.  This doesn't apply to webmasters and those who are
shooting for adult websites.

What kind of model release do you get? Just portofolio use or do you own all the rights to the pics? That is why you pay more for models outside of schools.

I just looked at what type of photography you do. It photo journalism and regular commercial photography, not Glamour photography. So, that explains why you are not educated in that market. This is not meant as a slight on you. Just an observation. I am talking about it as somebody with experience in the glamour market. Those are two very different perspectives.

Interesting.

If you are shooting a "TF" with an established photographer, full/implied nudes may be what THEY are looking for. If YOU are looking for lingerie, and will shoot some topless for him/her to get the things you need for your portfolio, then you have both achieved your goals.

You get the pics you want, they get the pics they want.

I don't know if I would pay a model that much an hour for breasts, unless they have the ones I've been looking for. smile

I deal ONLY in all rights documents Tony, though license back [to the model] is also common in my shop the fundamental release [to me] is always all rights.

Like someone said before they are your breast so you may charge whatever you want for someone to photograph them.  Maybe you have the Rolls Royce of breast and refuse to put a Hyundai price on them.

By the way for the people who said the average was 50-75, nude.  I know plenty of models who don't work below $125 an hour and they keep a full schedule.  It's all a matter of who you work with and if they are willing to pay-also how well you can sell your look, if you have no marketing skills, you have no money.

People are always giving models a hard time because they want to charge XYZ an hour-I have yet to see someone flip out because a photographer thinks his work is worth $2,000 when it's never been published and he's not giving up the rights.

How do you figure that? Many people can get full nude models for $20-40. So how is $80 for a pair of boobs too cheap?

Isn't that the point and aren't we beating this to death.  We all agree, some models charge $20-$40hr for topless are nudes, others charge $80hr.

The OP's original question was not whether people would pay her $80hr but whether it was a reasonable rate to ask.  Of course it was reasonable.  It was certainly not out of the range that others charge.

Your point is that you wouldn't be willing to pay it.  I am sure that other's don't want to pay the rate.  Then don't book her.  Others probably will and the market will decide what she finally gets.

We spend too much time on these topics.

I think fees should be based on  what the market will bear, so to speak. I happen to believe something is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay. So having fees set in stone can be somewhat shooting yourself in the foot. A lot of people miss out on a lot of great modeling or photography gigs because they won`t budge on their fees even the slightest bit.

Note only that, but in my experience nude/art models who work at schools, posing for 40 sets of eyes per class, many classes a week, don't throw the diva attitude some "I've been told I'm pretty my WHOLE life" models do.   Art models are used to working with people pursuing art and come at their craft from a whole different (and I might add refreshing) perspective.

I had to shoot 1,800 images of a model plus two hours of video from noon on Monday until noon on Tuesday.  I am burned out so I had to come play with my friends before I start buring disks.
