ladies, why aren't you photographing sexy guys?
i love women, and i love erotic photographs of them. i do my best to create these photos as i feel i'm expressing and exploring something from within and have the chance to share with others. i don't believe men and women are all that different in regard to attraction and desire, deep inside. obviously there are Societal double standards and opinions that are unfair to women, but i want to hear from Individual women: do you ever have the desire to photograph some guy you think is hot in an erotic way? what would the photos look like? What's holding You back?? Jan 09 06 04:40 pm Link sexy guys? what're those? Jan 09 06 04:40 pm Link theda wrote: Jan 09 06 04:43 pm Link Balks at the comprehension of such analytical thinking, how dare you? Who are you to come on here and attempt to make sense? Jokingly, I like shooting men as well as women. I agree with you in that MOST photographers only shoot women. Both male and female photographers shoot women, you tell us why and you will be my hero. I really donât care what other people shoot as I shoot what I like and I shoot for ME. Jan 09 06 04:49 pm Link theda wrote: To see what a sex guy should look like you have no further to go than me. I'm the negative of what sexy is, so the more the guy doesn't look like me the sexier he is. It's very simple, really. Jan 09 06 04:52 pm Link Sorry... apparantly that link didn't work for some reason. Here's the whole gallery page; you should be able to find the male figure in there (he'll be the only guy without clothes on). http://www.photo.net/photos/Loki -P- Jan 09 06 04:54 pm Link People ask me this all the time. The answer is always the same: Because men won't/can't do it. I know it sounds deceptively simple, but that's the fact. Jan 09 06 05:03 pm Link I am. Jan 09 06 05:08 pm Link but I shamelessly admit to f*cking my model. It's just that after a year of spending every night with him, I tried to take a few pictures, and some of them were cool. Jan 09 06 05:10 pm Link They're really difficult to find, especially for the things I'm interested in. Jan 09 06 05:13 pm Link Pat Thielen wrote: Have you lost whats left of your mind? Jan 09 06 05:15 pm Link I don't mean to thread jack but I just have to post this article I wrote about this subject. For those of you who haven't seen it it's called "Male Nudity and the Realities of War". http://justchange.net/articles/style/ar … 10220.html I am curious to why female photographers have supported a kind of double standard when it comes to shooting men vs. women for so long. What happened to women's lib? The culture's jaded in that regard. The issue I've discerned is that our collective vision for men, more often than not, hinges on activity and action: we don't gravitate toward men who lounge and pout, who tease to tease (but open shirts, six-pack abs, "fun lines", etc. seem to sell), or who otherwise luxuriate. Last year's "metrosexual" evolution--how's that going? I know I may be surprised by the voices of the defender's of the MANicure but rather expect an aggressively passive response from that quarter, if any. Why babes with cameras aren't teasing men out of the pants (although some do) may have something to do with why cowgirls with boots aren't throwing the first lines at the bar (although some do). Jan 09 06 05:29 pm Link Have camera will press click.... Just point me in the right direction! Jan 09 06 05:31 pm Link Jay Dezelic wrote: Jay, I think there are two different things going on here. One is that, as I said above, male models are much more difficult to find, particularly when one is working on a project that has no commercial viability, or isnât for a client. Jay Dezelic wrote: I donât think the dichotomy youâve drawn is quite right. I think that it has more to do with what turns men on versus what turns women on. Visually speaking, of course. Men often seem to prefer what is seen, whereas women often seem to prefer what is felt/implied/hinted at. This is a huge sweeping generalization, and I realize it does not apply to everyone. But I do think there is some truth to it. Just look at the fact that Playboy is a monster enterprise, whereas Playgirl is mostly known for being sold to gay men. Jan 09 06 06:20 pm Link I shoot who ever pays me. girl boy and or otherwise. why do the ladies have to shoot the sexy guys can't make photogs do the same? I'll be shooting a sexy guy tomorrow night. I have some super sexy photos I have taken of men but they run into the male adult theme and can't be shown here..... Jan 09 06 07:03 pm Link I don't like sexy guys. Jan 10 06 10:43 am Link Maybe you can blame it on history... The female figure is associated with nature and beauty; the male figure's associated with humanity and power. From cave paintings through the Greeks and Romans, renaissance, modern and contemporary art, whichever. The greeks, though, had virtually no sculptures or paintings of nude women (unless they were obviously porn...). Their ideal in beauty was a young man. It wasn't just the mass homosexuality talking... their culture developed democracy and pushed humanism, joining together in a struggle with/against the gods and nature to survive and thrive. In the renaissance, people realized that they could use mythical and religious imagery as an excuse for painting hot nekkid chicks. There's where the whole masculine domination of culture comes into play... But here we are, now, and the men's magazines have pictures of beautiful, half-naked women on the covers. And the women's magazines have pictures of... beautiful, half-naked women on the covers. And the home and garden lifestyle magazines have pictures of attractive, clothed women on the covers. And news magazines have strong men, or beautiful women. (Or graphics). Am I rambling here? Talking too long or too briefly? It seems that the answer to the initial question, "Why aren't women photographers (or any photographers) taking more pictures of sexy men?" is that taking pictures of sexy people at all, the intent is to create either images of beauty or objects of desire. In ten thousand years of history, women have almost always been associated with both of those on a general level, and men almost never, except in niche markets. At least in visual arts. I agree with what Sita Mae Edwards brought up, that women these days are more open than ever before about viewing men as beautiful and/or desirable, but that where men tend to be more interested in eye candy, women tend to be more interested in backstory. Add in the whole social/cultural/historical associations and regardless of an individuals level of tolerance, openness, experimentation, etc. it is far easier, and more acceptable, and seems on some level to make 'sense' to present images of 'sexy girls' to a female or mixed audience than to present 'sexy boys' to a male or mixed audience. Oi. Here is the post where Scott AKA IDtenTANGO betrays his art-school dropout status. (I'd also like to state that I ditto everyone else's reasons for having few pictures of men...) Jan 10 06 11:08 am Link yeah ladies shoot me lol Jan 10 06 03:57 pm Link i'm not a lady but i get asked that all the time. i reply that i try to photograph what i find to be beautiful and not once have i thought a guy was beautiful. I really like the ocean and the mountains, and the scene seemed quite a lot better than the one here in Minneapolis. My friend took me hiking in the foothills and I photographed slugs mostly (I like slugs... what can I say?). Not that I've got a snazzy-ass Nikon ringflash and a 105 micro lens I want a return trip! But all in all, its a really great town and I had fun the four days I was there. So, yeah, I expect to be back at some point to at least visit and see what cool and awesome things I can photograph. I'll let you know if ever I make back out there. Jan 12 06 04:16 am Link theda wrote: I disagree! I am an undercover geek but i'm pretty damn cute.
