Models who have nothing but point & shoot camera shots taken by the model themselves at the end of arms reach, and THEN have the audacity to say "contact me for rates"??  I understand taking a few snaps of a face in order to get a look on the site, but until a model has a few solid photo shoots under their belt, I don't think they can reasonably ask for compensation aside from test prints or a CD.
Opinions?

I'm sure they will soon figure this out for themselves

No more than the photographers who have two maybe three shoots under their belt who try to demand payment as well...

Welcome to the Internet

Good morning OP

You have just stepped out of your safe little world of agency modeling, and into the big bad world of internet photography. There are no rules here; a girl who is 5’ 1” in 4” stiletto heals can get paid work from photographers, so can a girl who is bigger than a size 4. The typical agency rules don’t apply to us anymore. Sorry about that, in just a few days your in box will be filled with silly little girls with crappy web cam photos saying they love your work, yet you need to pay 150.00 an hour to shoot them. Not to make it too complicated there are several different camps of people all colliding on this site:

Agency models and photographers = work for clients and have a set of standards
Artist models and photographers = work for art and the chance to be in the galleries.
Amateur models and photographers = work to learn some of these guys and girls will move up and do some great work in the above categories.
GWP and GWC = it’s all about the b(o)(o)bies.

Welcome to our world…………………………………………..wink

Good morning OP

Seriously. I've charged for only one shoot so far and that was an engagement photo session at a severly discounted price compared to what it would cost normally. All other shoots were friends or TFP cause I don't feel that I have reached a level yet where my work is worth more than the time models will spend with me.
I'm not looking for back pats here, I think I'll get there eventually, but I think more people need to be honest with themselves when it comes to money. When you've got a good portfolio that reflects a professional level of expertise, then start asking to be paid.

If you've got tig ol' bitties it really doesn't matter what your shots look like. You're good enough for a photographer's spank bank...therefore, you will get paid.

Yeah...but it's more fun when you've seen them in person. Why do you think so many people make their own porn as opposed to just looking online? It can't always be about vanity (although I'm sure that's part of it). Most of the time it's just about reliving a moment. And I think you underestimate how much some guys like boobies.

Cripes.

Imagine that, a model who actually thinks her look is worth paying for.  What's this world coming to.  What next... agency models who get booked for work with nothing but polaroids?

Wait...

All kidding aside, it's her image and she can do what she wants with it. Who are we to say what will or won't sell? Let income dictate her business decisions.

It can't hurt to ask:).Just because they ask doesn't mean YOU have to PAY. Let the "dreamers" have their dreams and just move on to the next model.

Please let me know what the MM #s of those profiles are I will deal with them.  It's a pet peeve of mine, and in an effort to make sure that Model Mayhem stays a quality site filled with quality profiles, "portfolios" full of nothing but self-taken headshots are no longer welcome on Model Mayhem.  "Models" with such will be suspended until s/he has worked with photographers (other than her/himself) and have better photos, including one full body shot.

At least it wasn't a webcam or camera phone shot, lol

They should at least take standard snapshots that agencies take of models with potential (natural makeup and hair, straight on headshot not smiling, one smiling, profile, full body, etc).

The images should also be taken by someone else with the model against a plain background with no distractions.

I hate seeing webcam shots with ppls dirty laundry in the background! I also hate pics ppl take of themselves in the mirror.. use the self timer! LOL!!
