American Buffalo. Ken Burns documentary. PBS

Monumental.

Greatest destruction of animal life on earth in history.

And of course, the concomitant genocide of native Americans.

Salem's Lot (1979 TV miniseries, dir. Tobe Hooper) Chaos ensues when vampires move into town. Shlock horror classic which owes something to the old Universal horror films of the 1930s in terms of style. I recommend the 180 minute version.

Also;

The Running Man (dir. Paul Michael Glaser, 1987). Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle with revolutionary theme and a few more ideas than usual.

Black Angel 2 (dir. Takashi Ishii, 1999). Reasonable sequel with some inventive action sequences.

Also;

They Saved Hitler's Brain (dir. David Bradley, 1963). As the Russians close in on Berlin in 1945, scientists remove Adolf Hitler's head, put it in a glass jar and transport it to South America, where it begins to plan the takeover of the world using chemical weapons. Here's the proof that if you start out with a silly enough idea for a movie plot, things are not likely to improve much (see also The Boys from Brazil, Raise the Titanic). Part of the Pure Terror 50 Movie DVD set.

Munich (dir. Stephen Spielberg, 2005). Fictionalised, infantilised and mostly made up retelling of Israeli intelligence operations which tries to promote the absurd idea that Black September were financed by the CIA. Based on a book, Vengeance by George Jonas.

In the past month i have watched

Money Heist first 2 seasons  ( on Netflix ) which i would say was a lot of fun with interesting twists and turns for about the first 75 percent of the series - but they stretch things out a bit too far and I fast forwarded to the last episode ( which wrapped things up pretty well )

Napoleon - which i view as a big miss by Director Ridley Scott and Actor Joaquin Phoenix ( who are both capable of Greatness )  The Movie really gets bogged down with Napoleons  romantic life , and we really do not get a sense of what drives him to become the Emperor of France and Engage in Brutal Wars with the Countries around him ( resulting in the loss of millions of lives )

Killers  of the Flower Moon - Worst Movie of the Year for so many reasons but mainly because expectations were so high for this film

A Nearly Normal Family ( Netflix ) a very well made and compelling Family Drama/ Murder Mystery

Gangs of Oslo . Surprisingly Good Norwegian Crime Drama focusing on 2 Middle Eastern ( maybe Syrian ) Sons of Immigrants  who were Childhood Friends but now as Adults are on opposite sides of the Law .

Marathon Man (dir. John Schlesinger, 1976). Is it safe? Film critic Pauline Kael described this as a "Jewish revenge fantasy", but really it's just the old film noir story of shady people competing to get their hands on a fortune in diamonds, with a twist in the shape of would-be marathon runner Babe (Dustin Hoffman) who's more interested in clearing his father's name and avenging his brother's death at the hands of sadistic ex-Nazi Christian Szell (Laurence Olivier). Quality acting performances partly compensate for obvious plot improbabilities.

Also; Ronin (dir. John Frankenheimer, 1998). Cliche-ridden but still very watchable kick-ass action movie. What's in the case? Biological agents would seem an obvious possibility.

633 Squadron (1964, dir. Walter E. Grauman). Hackneyed war movie with some laughable dialogue, predictable plot, lots of explosions and high body count. If the intention was to convey the banality of war, it succeeds. The original WW2 aircraft are quite impressive as is the music by Ron Goodwin. Director Grauman had earlier flown missions over Europe as a B25 bomber pilot with the USAAF during WW2.

This was among the ten most most popular films in the UK in 1964 in terms of ticket sales, and provided inspiration for the "trench run" sequence in Star Wars according to George Lucas.

In another scene, Norwegian resistance leader Lt Erik Bergman (George Chakiris) is molested by a female Gestapo interrogator (Anne Ridler) wearing a black SS uniform, this is historically inaccurate because women were not permitted to join or hold rank in the SS, although there was a female auxiliary organisation, the SS- Helferinnenkorps whose members wore a grey uniform with SS insignia;

The Gestapo was a branch of the SS for organisational purposes although most of it's personnel were not members of the SS, many were transferred from other German police organisations.

TV - Transplant A medical drama about a doctor who emigrated from Syria to Canada while bringing up his sister.
PBS - Rise of the Nazis Since our country (in general) seems to have forgotten, the British Broadcasting Corporation has produced Trumps' playbook, word for word.  Included are commentary by historical experts on everything he's doing, but inserting the names from 90 years ago.

To the Devil a Daughter (dir. Peter Sykes 1976) Confusing adaptation of a Dennis Wheatley novel about a demonic cult within the Catholic Church. A full frontal nude appearance by Nastassja Kinski near the end provides most of the excitement. Part of a cycle of 70s films that also includes The Omen (1976) and The Exorcist (1973).

The Naked Kiss (dir. Samuel Fuller 1964) (b/w) Sensationalistic, slightly bombastic film about a prostitute who abandons her former profession to become a nurse and gets engaged, but kills her lover when she finds out he's a pedophile. Unusual enough but not as exciting as the title might suggest.

The Nigh Evelyn Came Out of the Grave (La Notte che Evelyn usci dalla tomba) (dir. Emilio Miraglia, 1971). This is another one of those beautifully photographed Italian gothic films with the usual ingredients of nudity, perversions, amazing outfits, bizarre deaths, unsavoury characters. The plot is difficult to follow but basically involves a deranged aristocrat and some people who want to get their hands on his money. The cars are interesting, the main protagonist has a classic Ferrari and there's another one that resembles a Jaguar XJ but which I think could well be a Maserati Quattroporte.
