Would you share your favorite "Lolita" image?
This thread is interesting. It started out with a request to see other's "Lolita" images. Obviously, the word "Lolita" means many things to many people. To some it is any image of an adult woman dressed as a young girl and posed in a sexually charged position. To others, it is about trying to capture the idealized image of Lolita that Humbert had when he first saw her in Nabokov's novel. Some posters have shown very innocent images of adolescent girls. To them, Lolita may simply be any young adolescent teen. To others, the word Lolita is obviously a hot button synonymous with child abuse & Pedophilia. Jan 02 07 11:35 am Link 40th post monster...... Jan 02 07 11:44 am Link I think I took one by accident once. I was shooting a girl's 10th birthday party and all her friends were dressed up and we did cute shots of the group and the individual girls for their parents. Everything was innocent, but when I looked through the pictures, there was one girl who had so much ..."knowing" (for lack of a better word)...in her eyes, that even though on the surface it was a totally decent portrait of a little girl, I felt like I was looking at child porn. It freaked me the hell out. Jan 02 07 11:50 am Link Geo Silva wrote: Actually, I think your avatar is closer than the one you posted.... Jan 02 07 01:09 pm Link I meant to mention earlier: If you haven't read the book ("Lolita") and this thread inspires you to, take the trouble to find a copy of Alfred Appel Jr.'s "The Annotated Lolita." My copy is a 1970 McGraw Hill paperback edition. It may be out of print, but any major library system should be able to get you a copy by inter-library loan, if it's not in the library you go to. The Appel commentary puts many of the issues people are discussing here into a broader context. A really good read. Colin EDIT: Just checked. It is still in print and available from the usual sources. Jan 02 07 01:52 pm Link Colin Talcroft wrote: It's been over 30 years since I read Lolita. To me the best looking "Lolita" by far is Liv Tyler in Stealing Beauty, and at least she almost looks old enough to be legal. Probably was? Jan 02 07 03:25 pm Link *shakes head* Even though I'm over 25, I have a woman-child look to me -_-;; Some people say I still look like a kid, so it's a bit unfortunate. Even though Goth or Goth-lolita isn't my thing, I do like the dresses I see in the Japan fashion magazines. The black, white and lacy fashions are quite pretty. I have to agree though, most of the images posted up here weren't "lolita". Jan 11 07 12:05 am Link shot of me by me the other day ^_^ Jan 11 07 12:16 am Link Awww how sweet! ^-^ Ok, I'll admit I found a favorite, and one similiar style I saw in my local Kinokuniya bookstore. Hmmmmm, wish it had sleeves, and a matching head dress, but anyway! http://inthestarlight.com/lacysundress1.jpg Jan 11 07 12:33 am Link StudioMona wrote: Mona, Jan 11 07 12:41 am Link bobby sargent wrote: Aww, thanks lotusphoto wrote: Jan 11 07 12:45 am Link DennysPhoto wrote: awwww, thank you Yes, I know it is not really Lolita that's why I said if it was Lolita-esque . Jan 13 07 05:39 pm Link I've never really understood "gothic lolita" or the scary (to me) japanese cos-play with the odd banana-curl wigs...but to each their own. Unfortunately I've neither read nor seen either version of the actual Lolita, though I have heard it referenced throughout my life, so I must surely have a distorted, if semi-accurate, view. Kind of reminds me of the movie I did see on that vein called Pretty Baby with Brooke Shields though, am I close? Now, i have no pics to submit 'cause well, I'm just a tad old and not a photographer but I think this is a really interesting topic with a lot of strong opinions. Jan 13 07 10:35 pm Link By the way, many of the women on Cragslist who post ads under escorts are done by me here on the west coast. I have turned away a few ladies who did not want to show IDs and I try not to make them look like little girls.. Asian women are tough!!!! I get carded everywhere Jan 18 07 03:33 am Link These are Russian sisters. 14 and 11. Shot the same day.I know the hair doesn`t match but the oldests hair is orange because she did a Vidal Sasson hair show the night before. Neither one had one pose or expression suggested by me. I let them pose and make expressions as they wanted. I also caught some hell from people who saw these images and others from the shoot. Mom as well as Grandma were there standing right by me the whole time and I tell ya there`s not much that is more unnerving than an old non-english speaking Russian grandma staring at you for two hours, lol.Mom was great though.
