One Hour Photo ... oh um ... wait!  tongue

He wasn't really a photographer!

So how about some Hard Candy?   Ouch!  Not so good for photographers!

Yep,

"Under Fire" with Nick Nolte, Ed Harris and Gene Hackman
"Salvador" with James Woods and James Belushi
"Bang Bang Club" with Ryan Phillipe and Malin Akerman
"Rear Window" with Jimmy Stewart
"Harrison's Flowers"
"Triage" with Colin Farrell
"The Problem" with Connie Nielsen

I also seem to recall that there's a movie called "High Art" in which Ally Sheedy and someone else become a lesbian couple, Sheedy is a photographer with a heroin addiction.  Also, "Welcome to Sarajevo"...I think the American in the film (Woody Harrelson) is a photojournalist.

For a fun period piece check out Funny Face.

Fred Astaire channels Richard Avedon with Audry Hepburn as his muse in a parody of the fashion photography business. Avedon was a consultant and shot the black and white fashion stills. His real muse Dovima (the lady with the elephants in the famous photo) appears as the super model.

Great post. I have seen a good number of these, including Laura Mars and of course Blow Up. I saw this one a number of years back, sort of based on Weegee, The Public Eye. And here is a relatively recent one, for Horror film and Clive Barker fans,
the Midnight Meat Train. And another one, which revolves around some photos of the old Storyville brothels, Pretty Baby. (surprised that hasn't been mentioned before.

Pecker (1998)

It's a John Waters film about this small town photographer kid who gets discovered and shown in New York.  But really....it's a commentary on the absurdity of the modern art scene.  Pretty funny.

Here's my image of James Woods beneath the "Salvador" poster, taken at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Couldn't tell you the year.

I had long admired Woods for his intense performance in "The Onion Field"

Found out later that he allegedly got perfect scores on his SATs.

I love the fact that he's a great actor.

And not pretty.

City of God. The young aspiring photographer story line is secondary but definitely worth a watch. Great film:

Excellent!  A photo of a movie actor next to a photo (poster) about a movie about a photographer.  Well done sir!

Along this line,

"Three Days of the Condor" -- In it Robert Redford abducts Faye Dunaway, who happens to be an art photographer. There's a scene of her studio being pretty seriously shot up. Made me cringe. :-)

These have been mentioned, but I'll give my own plug for the Avedon piece.

Fiction works, I love:

Salvador
Pecker
Under Fire
High Art

And even though it isn't about photography, the single shot of Liv Ullman from 'Persona' makes it worthy of mention (IMHO)

Just curious, what does this have to do with anything in this thread? Or even the topic?

Again, just curious.

Agreed, not sure what that has anything to do with anything. I'm assuming that it's meant as some sort of positive endorsement?

Yes, no shallow hype with that guy. He seemed to care more for the subjects getting the exposure and attention, not himself.

A few other terrific documentaries worth mentioning:

"What Remains" about Sally Mann

"Eloquent Nude" about the relationship and work of Charis Wilson and Edward Weston

"The Woodmans" about Francesca Woodman and her family.
