I'm not a model.  But the last 3 models I've shot with were:
--a first year nursing student
--someone going back to school to study music and dance, she already held a Masters in International Development but decided to switch careers
--a painter with her own studio who held a BA in Fine Art

All sorts of women model.  So it stands to reason that you'd get all sorts of professionals, levels of intelligence, and schooling.

Molecular biology cool.

I did my degree on Geography; and specialised in an area of palaeoclimatology at Masters but still Geography. Now in the final six months of my doctorate; palaeoclimatology - studying ice cores.

Wow!  Why do you think we think you are dumb because you are a model.  You have to be smart, intuitive, creative, artistic, open, vulnerable, emotive, sensual, athletic just to name a few of the attributes it takes to be a model.  No where is the word dumb come into the picture.

Perhaps those outside the industry think models are dumb, but we photographers who reley on models to create their art know differently

IMHO

Aw, this thread made me happy.  I'm got a masters in biology and I know several other models with science backgrounds.  Being a good model involves a lot of hypothesis testing, especially when you're trying to book work off the internet smile  Good luck with your studies girls!

Some of you do. Thx for appreciating the skills and craft and intelligence needed. Many inside the industry do not.

I actually do come paleoclimate work!  From the tree ring side, not ice cores.

Cool. Some of my colleagues do tree rings. I've been to Iceland many times and currently reading the Sagas. Keep on touch x

I know of two models I worked with that are studying economics.  One was finished this spring at my old Alma Mater and the other is almost done.  Smart cookies. smile

'Medieval Icelandic Studies' just sounds super interesting and cool (literally!), I'm curious, what kind of job do you end up with after doing that?

Having worked with the OP a number of times, I can tell you I never try to engage Caitlin in a molecular biology discussion... unless I want to feel like a dumb photographer.

And I'm thinking about adding either another major or at least a minor. Minor maybe in Botany.

I'm looking forward to getting back into it.
I grad high school a few months ago and feel lazy for taking a semester off.

I have shot some future chemists, biologists, engineers, architects and doctors.

I have also shot models with only a high school diploma- but are super smart nevertheless. Just that they did not take a path to a college. On the other side of this, just going to college does not make someone smart!

Ask this guy, he'll tell ya:

I'm not a model, but I work with a lot -- mostly traveling models and they DO fit a stereotype, like it or not. They're generally well-educated, disciplined, articulate entrepreneurs working very hard to balance school/work and eek out a life in this world. I'm just sayin'...

Having exchanged pms it may be possible down the line feasibly we could even work together. This period is vitally important to climate records. Already Medieval ice is looking at dendrochronology and obviously there is a written and archaeological record of a culture that spanned from north America to Greenland to Russia to the arctic to Britain and Ireland  to Normandy to Rome to the northern middle east. We are talking the Vikings; massively important culture of explorers. So if we are serious about learning about climate change this period is crucial and we know they abandoned settlements due to climate change. In addition Iceland is of major geographical importance tectonically/ vulcanology wise (for example after eruptions human and animal populations there were often devastated) and in terms of habitat and geographical features. Iceland is a very special place physically, ecologically, and historically. Even things like their horses are unique genetically, gait wise etc.  So there are possible career openings in archaeology, anthropology, climate science, geography, biology (tree rings, lichens, marine etc), ecology,   history, etc open to him and also there is the transferable skills thing: so statistics of any kind, lilinguistics/literature etc. So even UN jobs are a possibility; or any kind of research or educational post, or even dissemination  work vaguely related. But ultimately knowledge is important for its own sake, for what it contributes to human understanding of our history and our future, and for our own  development as individuals.
The Icelandic Sagas alone for example are wonderfully enjoyable, easy reading and enlightening for all.

I'm currently a student of life.  The teacher has no face.  There are no red pens, no paper, no letter grades or accolades for a job well done other than simply the chance to be a student again the next day.  Each day is a test, a lecture, and an adventure.  The teacher is in everything all around me, and even within me.  And I'm the student.  And so far I'm passing because I get to go to class again tomorrow.   wink

All but three of the models I've worked with now have either Bachelors or Masters Degrees.

Two that don't are working on their degrees.

One is still in high school.

so, no, us men don't think models are dumb or stupid.
