Model Sharking
Not a problem with me, I share the models I shoot with. It's not to my benefit to hoard them or keep them from shooting with others. Nov 08 06 01:14 pm Link yeah, its happened a couple times and it sucks Not to Hijack this thread but in a simular vein, what if a model you've shot, you know, you like, asks "Hey, have you heard anything about ______ photog?" And what if you HAVE heard something untoward about them. But its just something you heard, no actual "proof" do you say anything? do you feel bad when you do? Nov 08 06 01:18 pm Link I've recently had a photographer try to book me but with no avail due to conflicting schedules, and he heard that I was booked for a big modeling session and bad-mouthed me to that photographer because I didn't have any more availability to book him. Good thing, he thinks for himself and doesn't listen to gossip. The shoot went great, got great shots, and we will be working together again! Nov 08 06 01:25 pm Link I had that happen to me with a few photogs. I hate when people talk trash because it only makes them look bad. I also had that happen with models who had no real base for talking trash. It's unprofessional. Nov 08 06 01:27 pm Link I figured something like that was happening because some odd things keep popping up like red flag: models stop talking when planning were in progress, same photo guy keep getting added to people I was talking with, etc... But I don't care much because I believe that the choices're for people to make-what style, look they want to have. As for trash talking, I have hundreds of model friends on the list to prove how they alway looking forward to working with me again whenever we can find available time. I do make the list priv but it's more out of respect for people's privacy because I know lots of them don't want others to bother them with msg :-) Nov 08 06 01:28 pm Link Michael Pandolfo wrote: Its not EVERY one, but its so common, i just stop listening. Nov 08 06 01:32 pm Link I've never had anyone dog me pre-shoot, but I never trash talk other photogs. I do however get my models stolen from me. Whenever I find a new model that noone in ATL has seen, it's guarenteed that with in a week after I shoot with her, everyone and there mother hits her up to shoot with them. I feel like a damn talent scout, with out the payment benefits. Now I tell my new models that it is a guarentee that within a week of the photo release that they are going to be swarmmed. So now my models ask for my advice who to shoot with. Nov 08 06 01:34 pm Link JM Dean wrote: I honestly won't work with models that are started by a certain photographer in my area. That is because after 1 shoot with him, they demand big money, then feel escorts are always needed and/or make other redisulous demands. Because he fills their head with alot of nonsense, about how once they shoot with him, they are almost pros because he is so good. I have this from several models first hand, but still no names as he does it his way and I do it mine. Nov 08 06 01:34 pm Link Is the "Model Shark" any relation to the "Land Shark" from SNL? I don't trash talk anyone (without a justifiable reason) because what comes around goes around. As far as I know that hasn't been done to me. Who knows though, maybe that's why I get all of those no-shows...LOL! Nov 08 06 01:37 pm Link Glamour Boulevard wrote: Sounds like y'all about to do some model sharking yourselves. Nov 08 06 02:03 pm Link BeccaAnnPhotoGal wrote: Ok.. this is just stupid. How does not working with you hurt the other photographer? It only hurts you, and prevents photographer "B" from working with you. Photographer "A" really couldn't care less... Nov 08 06 02:09 pm Link If a model has done her homework (ie: checked references, reviewed your work, etc), then WHY is she going to listen to ONE photographer who all of the sudden has this magical bad information that no one else had? I would definitely keep the info in the back of my mind, but if I talk to ten models that say photographer A is great and then photographer B comes along and says he's an ass or a perv or whatever, I'm going to take more stock in the references I've already gotten. Sounds like maybe these models aren't the brightest bulbs on the Christmas tree if they are going to blindly take this information and ditch you. They're also unprofessional, imo, for ditching you to shoot with someone else. I think if you book a gig, paid or unpaid, and then cancel to work with someone else because they pay more, you like them better, whatever (basically any reason other than illness, etc), then you are showing your unprofessionalism. So, maybe you had a favor done by not having to work with these women who are so blindly trusting what ONE person is saying about you...they obviously didn't check references on you, or they would have had a lot of counter information already. Nov 08 06 04:27 pm Link I never thought about this. On the contrary, I keep my top friends list visible just so any potential model can contact anyone on my top friends list for a reference. My top friends list consists of only people I've shot with before. I can't say I've had any out of the ordinary no shows or flakes from that site. Robert Nov 08 06 04:34 pm Link well one photog's 'bashing' is another photog's 'honest opinion' dontcha think? models approach me all the time and ask me if its 'worth it' to their portfolios to shoot a TFP/CD with 'so and so'. i generally give them my 'honest opinion' Nov 08 06 09:21 pm Link Annique Delphine wrote: why , ill tell you it happens to me all the time. im a unknown , i sell art in a different area than here. low end pro photogs worry if i do a shoot with a model that i might embarass them. i have photogs tell models stories about me all the time , the truth is no photographers know me other than the ones in my normal market none of whome are pro,s. Nov 08 06 10:26 pm Link Chili wrote: really you can judge a photog from 20 fricken images. ansel adams did 20 or more photos that where tree detail if thats all he posted on here you really wouldnt know shit about him would you. we artists do not put valuable images on the net , so you dont have a clue what photogs really can do , you just know what we chose to publicly post. Nov 08 06 10:30 pm Link I...would seriously doubt this has or will happen with me. I don't think I represent even the slightest threat to motivate a photographer to do this. Who does this? If someone chooses to believe Nov 08 06 10:38 pm Link darkfotoart wrote: actually it only takes a few images Nov 08 06 10:48 pm Link Not here but on OMP many models that put in a "desire to work" tag with me get's an email from this guy. He even told a few that he works with me and I am too busy right now so he will do them a favor. I also had a model selling posters from TFP shots I did with her. She is no longer active in the modeling world. Nov 10 06 12:35 am Link |
