.......not Gothic enough to shoot with you...
I just received a very warm message from a young lady who told me that she adored my work, and how it would be such an honor to work with me..... And then she fretted that she was not Gothic enough to shoot with me.... What? Gothic enough? Have I been pigeon holed and defined as a Gothic photographer? That's it, I'm shooting FHM content from now on. Oct 18 06 01:49 pm Link Gothic is not the first word that pops into my head when I look at your port. (Great work by the way) Isn't modeling about being able to transform yourself anyway? I'll be looking for you in FHM Maybe you can shoot my next submission to them! LOL Oct 18 06 01:51 pm Link ravens....yup thats you sweetie.....goth only from now on! do you understand me?? ......lol Got to love how one gets lumped into only one category as if you can't do anything outside of that. Meela Oct 18 06 01:54 pm Link my comment would have been "I don't get naked enough for your style" lol. I don't think you should be lumped "gothic". lovely work by the way Oct 18 06 02:06 pm Link Screw her...shoot me instead Oct 18 06 02:15 pm Link The naked thing is another rat trap people seem to be blinded by.. Its clear that if you look at my work that I do clothed shoots too... But I suppose if you have about half your work nude, that that means it's all you do. Smile. Oct 18 06 02:16 pm Link I could say I'm too OLD for you to shoot. Thus hinting that I want to model for you for one of your extreme art pieces. You know, since I'm goth and do clothéd shoots... Oct 18 06 02:17 pm Link ravens laughter wrote: I didn't say I wouldn't shoot with you, what I said was, my comment if I were her would not have been that I wasn't gothic enough but that I wasn't naked enough. I don't think that your port is too gothic, or too naked, or too anything. I am not lumping you with anything. what I meant by that was that I love shooting gothic but I don't do nudes. Oct 18 06 02:18 pm Link No worries jessalyn, I never hold a persons opinion against them..... But that does not mean I won't challenge you. But clothed or not goth or not I would love to work with you. Oct 18 06 02:59 pm Link No worries jessalyn, I never hold a persons opinion against them..... Oct 18 06 03:00 pm Link Goth???? *sigh* Its amazing that people see work that has a "darkside" and imediately label it Goth... I've had people tell me they love my work but that its too dark....it does bum me out because even though I prefer dark work, I'd love to shoot many different kinds of models....they just can't see themselves beyond the FHM/Maxim stuff.... Your work is just brilliant btw.... Oct 18 06 03:33 pm Link Oct 18 06 03:34 pm Link Your work definately generally has a dark feel to it, but it's all across the board.. I wouldn't label you as gothic either... But don't go FHM - *grin* Your work is too amazing as it is to go that direction... xoxo Oct 18 06 03:40 pm Link ravens laughter wrote: Pigeons there too... Man there's already enough living in NYC!!! Oct 18 06 03:47 pm Link saryn I love you... what shall our baby be named? (smile) Oct 18 06 10:38 pm Link Well, "raven's laughter" sounds gothic, but one would hope she would go by more than just that. And what is "FMH?" Oct 18 06 10:41 pm Link molly, you can model for me anytime.... maybe we'd have fun shooting each other in the most gothic of ways.. lol; oh I'd get naked. Oct 18 06 10:41 pm Link FHM is for him mag.... it's like maxim, but way better as far as raunchy jokes and better photography. and anything with "laughter" in it would not be considered gothinic by definition Oct 18 06 10:44 pm Link Ah, I wouldn't fret too much. The term "Gothic" is overused these days anyway (and this coming from one who's been involved in the "gothic" scene for 20+ years). It's her shortcoming assuming she isn't good enough. I love your work, by the way. Very classy! Oct 18 06 11:13 pm Link Hey if that model wants to limit herself out of a shoot...oh well. Great stuff ya got there! Paul Oct 19 06 02:22 am Link You're one of the very few I'd consider doing TFP for. Oct 19 06 02:31 am Link Lovely and dark and challenging, yes. Goth? No. Beautiful work. If I ever hit California, I'd love to work with you. Oct 19 06 02:34 am Link Um, I guess you should take that as a compliment??? Oct 19 06 02:35 am Link People assume I do gas mask porn. Go figure. Oct 19 06 02:44 am Link Ouch...I'm starting to think Raven's Laughter has lost interest in me...such a pity...since I was in the works of figuring out if it'd be possible to fly out to California to shoot with him...and I decided that it is...oh well...*sniffle sniffle*...I'll be alright...*sniffle*...stop looking at me! *sniffle* Oct 19 06 07:58 am Link look at all the replies here man...you are famous and gotta live with it Oct 19 06 08:05 am Link whoever said that is a striaght up moron, artsy or darker images are not a;ways goth and it sucks that your getting pigeon holed like that. hell im in the "goth" scene and even i tire of being told im too goth for something. so i know exactly how it feels to be ignored because you get unjustly stereotyped and shoved aside. Oct 19 06 08:49 am Link Kaitlin you know I love you, I have never lost interest in you ecspecially since you sweetened the deal with a back rub and home made cookies. Oct 19 06 12:17 pm Link Kaitlin Lara wrote: I'm still interested in you Any opening in mid-late Nov? Oct 19 06 12:22 pm Link persnonally, i find labels and stereotypes to be real time-savers Oct 19 06 07:40 pm Link Koray... Famous? Me? Pass me what ever you're smoking. No one knows who I am. Well some people know who I am... But that's just because there us a rumor going around that I make really good lemon merange pie. Serena thank you for your sweet and encouraging words. Oct 20 06 10:41 am Link I love your work, no matter what style you call it..... BTW.....how are you? Oct 20 06 10:45 am Link I would call most of my work hapless... As for how I am, at the moment I'm sedated.. That's till the men in white coats take me away. Oct 20 06 10:53 am Link No not goth... Digital photo artist...Like Jeffery Scott (I see his influence in your work) Michael Rosen Tsubasa to name a few. Good stuff. Oct 20 06 11:35 am Link Probably a young model that was scared of the darker stuff in your port. I get that all the time from glamour models scared of my "goofy shots" "It art damnit.... shut up and stand there just like I posed ya. You can go back to your bikini modeling when we are done shooting" Oct 20 06 11:38 am Link She used the wrong words, but I understand what the model meant. Sometimes I look at a photographer's portolio and really enjoy it, but I feel as though I might not be their type if they have a darker/goth/alternative (I hate labels) or whatever you want to call it style. I feel like they might not want to shoot my more maintstream FHM/Glamour/Causual/Fashion/Bikini/whatever it is I do! I don't know how to explain it- it's not that the model feels thats "all you can do", it's just that she feels like her style and yours are different and she's not sure if you would be interested in hers. Oct 20 06 11:55 am Link I doubt the models issue was how "goth" she is. Your work has a darker feel to it but, I wouldn't consider it "gothic" at all. She may have had an issue with being nude and used that as an excuse since it seems like the majority of your work is nude. It's all very well done by the way! Oct 20 06 11:56 am Link CLT wrote: Actually I do have a good long opening the weekend of the 25th in November...and Raven, I'm hoping to get out to Cali during spring break...we'll have to see Oct 20 06 12:01 pm Link To people not familiar with such genres, dark settings and a hint of dementia can come across as "goth". You can't control how your images will be perceived by others. Just be happy you've got waves of women here literally throwing themselves at you for potential collaboration. Life must be so hard. Oct 20 06 12:05 pm Link The model who approached me us an art model who has more nude images in her portfolio then I have in mine, so she wasn't shy about my use of the human form. I wrote her about her statement, she wrote back right away explaining that her use of the term Gothic was to describe what she felt was a deficacy in her modeling.. Basically that she hadn't approached me previously because she was sure that I would reject her because she wasn't dark enough for my taste in photography. Why don't people just say what they mean, lol. Anyways she and I are scheduled to shoot in Nov. So let's see what I can do with a glamour girl. Oct 20 06 12:51 pm Link |
