No need to be rude, the photographer should just tell the model that her style isn't currently what he's shooting.  That would do the job without being mean.

Well, right, I was just a litlle ironic.

I got yelled at for postponing a shoot 6 days in advance - An emergency at work sent me out of the country, so I wanted to postpone it till the following weekend. She yelled at me, calling me a typical "Vegas asshole photographer"... Wha??

In the same breath, I’ve had very few models ever flake/last minute reschedule on me. I think the last one was over a year ago, a tree fell on her house (got a cool picture of it too big_smile), so I didn’t really mind.

What about the models, that contact you - but you don't want to shoot them.  Do you even find an excuse, or you just say streight forward: "You are too ugly" to shoot with me?

If it is a request for a shoot when she'll pay me, she can look like Janet Reno - I'll shoot her.

If it is a request for a free shoot I send this: "Thank you for your interest in working with me. Unfortunately, I am not looking for models with your look for my book at this time. If I have a need for your look, I would like to work with then. Thanks again."

Exactly...you can say no to a model without being an asshat! If only everyone was as classy as our Ed;-)

Ahahaha!

No, neither is very bothersome, really... but hey, I'm a sensitive person, I get sad when I get yelled at sad.

And personally speaking, I've never heard Vegas photographers are any more asshole'ish then anywhere else. At least, I don't think Vegas holds the market on asshole photographers. But what do I know, I'm just another one of those asshole photographers wink.

I'm marrying another one of those asshole photographers too (OMG in 8 days!). I guess, actually, she should still be considered a Boston asshole photographer. She hasn't been in town long enough where as I'm born and raised here. Yeah, that's the ticket.

ok well here's my excuse.

"i've become aware of what a sensitive creature you are since we first discussed the shoot. And, well... I'm afraid the force of my overwhelming presence might scar you for life. I have therefore, in defference to your well-being chosen to cancel the shoot."

A passive-agressive strategy?! I will keep that in mind. yes.

I've had really bad luck before and have had 4 photographers no show for various reasons for a shootout--one was no call/no show, and then call to say he'll show, and then didn't show again.  But I also had roughly 6 models no-show/no-call for the same shootout, but quiet a few of them weren't above "amateur" status (only had myspace profiles).  I wouldn't have had a big problem with this if I hadn't spent $200+ to take a train to the location, book a hotel room for 3 days, and pay for food & other expenses.

Aside from this one time, I've had good luck with most of the photographers I've set up shoot times and dates with.  With the exception of mutual things like bad weather for outdoor shoots, being a little late, etc.

Now in the negotiating process I've been lucky to have photographers flake on me there (I received a reply once of, "I'll check my schedule..." and never got a reply afterwards) or make it known relatively early that they're creepy, etc. (continually asked me to shoot nudes when my profile obviously states that I don't).
