Turn the tables! Photographers' excuses to models
There is a thread with some very entertaining (and painfully familiar) excuses from models for their no-shows. However, I know from talking with my models that photographers can be just a flakey as models. So, models - bash us now, please!! (I just hope I don't read one about me!) Oct 12 06 01:57 pm Link I've honestly never been flaked on. I guess the people I work with are just too damn cool for all that nonsense...lol:-) Oct 12 06 01:58 pm Link Pshew!!! Oct 12 06 01:58 pm Link Now if we were talking about guys I've dated I'd have a much more interesting list of excuses to share;-) Oct 12 06 02:01 pm Link Susi wrote: Time for a new thread! Do I have some heart breaking stories for you lol Oct 12 06 02:37 pm Link I had the very real excuse once of totally forgetting. Usually when I book a shoot I immediately place it on calander and begin to do the shoot prep... But this one slipped my mind, the model showed up at my door at 630 as we had agreed... I answered all sleepy and groggy.. She laughed at me, made me a cup of coffee and some oatmeal. We ended up getting married. Oct 12 06 04:44 pm Link i've never flaked on anyone like that it's just not right Oct 12 06 04:49 pm Link I tell the Rapper wannabes on myspace that I'm no good at shooting men.... When they as me to shoot them.... just because... Oct 12 06 04:54 pm Link ravens laughter wrote: That's a great story! Oct 12 06 04:55 pm Link Serious Ravens??!?!? that's awesome....i love her and i love that story! Oct 12 06 04:59 pm Link Susi wrote: share! ... you datin a ship of fools, there, gf? What is wrong with these people! Oct 12 06 05:07 pm Link The models I've worked with have told me some stories. But I'm not one to kiss and tell... Oct 12 06 05:09 pm Link I once had a flat tire on a day I had scheduled to meet with a model. So I ended up being late. Oct 12 06 05:13 pm Link ravens laughter wrote: That is the COOLEST story ever! Hell yeah! Oct 12 06 05:16 pm Link Guilty as charged. In the middle of a company restucture, I simply was pooped. So I had to flake last minute. I still havent rescheduled. I'l have to make it up to her. I feel bad, but life gets in the way sometimes. I try not to bitch too much on non paying gigs, because I know life happens. V Oct 12 06 05:20 pm Link I had always assumed that she'd spied my morning wood beneeth my boxer briefs and had surmised that was the size of my fruit bowl half filled... By the time she got a chance to finally gaze at my tom thumb... She was too addicted to my charm and Wit to back away...but I have never flaked on her since. Oct 12 06 06:38 pm Link Its about time someone recognized that the street runs both ways... I only remember one situation, and I might go back and shoot with the guy later. It wasn't so much a flake as it was he was having health problems and didn't bother to tell me until less than a week before. What made it rough was that the shoot had been rescheduled several times prior due to various reasons, and in his reply to me telling me he was cancelling, he proceeded to complain that he was beginning to take it personally when models cancelled on him. Doh. The only one situation that comes to mind is someone that attempted to change all the established perameters less than a week before the shoot. He freaked out over some previous situations and went off the wall with his demands in a manner that I felt was entirely unacceptable for the present situation. I suppose I'm just lucky.... Now you're a little creepy. Oct 12 06 06:50 pm Link The word "flake" should not belong in a professional's vocebulary, the ones who flake on people have no idea what they do to themself...even if it is paid work... I have been flaked on sooo many times by models, other photographers and commercial customers, make up artists, it is frustrating when you think the next one will be different and it does the same..I have traveled 5 hours away to be flaked on twice in the sema weekend, I have come back early from trips costing me extra expenses to find out there was no job, been left at coffee shops waiting with out a call or a reply after the facts... its like the twilight zone...some times you never know why or if the person still alive or well bc they never replied or called to apologize. Been dependant on Photogrgaphy 100% in any case it hurts your bottom line, your cash planning, etc. and more than anything it affects you mentally, physically and financially, you start to loose trust on people and loose the enjotment of creating a masterpiece... to create "Art" you need to be concentrated 100% in your craft with out "Drama" Leave the Drama queens to the GWCs, lets get Proffessional in here! I am sure someone will come up with a slugo against flakes (if it not allready exist) OK!..that said, I need a drink... XP Oct 12 06 07:10 pm Link There were a couple of times when I WISHED I had flaked on the model, but personally, I've only been late once by a couple of minutes, and have never not shown up. Oct 12 06 08:20 pm Link ravens laughter wrote: so what did your wife say to that? :-) Oct 12 06 08:28 pm Link One time the wrinkles came out of my backdrop and I was so flustered tht I called the model and told her my dog took my car without me knowing and got arrested and I had to bail him out. She said that the same thing happened to her last month and that if there was anything she could to to help to let her know so I had her Western Union bail money to me. I haven't rescheduled yet because I don't want her to find out I don't have a dog. Oct 12 06 08:33 pm Link Once I was scheduled to meet a model on a Friday and shoot with her the following Saturday. I had a family emergency and since I happened to be at the computer, I fired off a text message to her and to the MUA. The model assumed I was only calling off the meeting and the MUA didn't even check her messages. So the model goes down to the MUA's salon (I was shooting a few doors down) and gets styled and after that the MUA finally got her text message. Since I called from ICU, and had already been there for 3 days with no signs of getting released, I"m really not sure it's flakey, but it was an excuse. Oct 13 06 09:37 am Link Susi wrote: *blush Oct 13 06 09:40 am Link I like how you photographers tell your stories before the models have a chance to bash you! I've been fortunate enough to have never had a shoot cancelled on me, though I have to admit that there were times that I was wishing it would happen so I could stay in bed! Oct 13 06 09:43 am Link ravens laughter wrote: That's so sweet )))) Oct 13 06 09:43 am Link oldguysrule wrote: What excuse whould you use to do that? Oct 13 06 09:45 am Link What about the models, that contact you - but you don't want to shoot them. Do you even find an excuse, or you just say streight forward: "You are too ugly" to shoot with me? Oct 13 06 09:49 am Link No need to be rude, the photographer should just tell the model that her style isn't currently what he's shooting. That would do the job without being mean.
