I was browsing another website and I ran across a male photographers Avatar.. It was a picture of a Male model with an erect Penis...
If was covered (Somewhat), by some material. BUT to my Fellow photographers, and any models..
DOES this seem odd?? Does this raise a Flag with anyone else??
or is it just my own limitations?

"Raise a flag?"  And you didn't even say "no pun intended?"

Anyway... I would probably think it was okay to use as an avatar, but it depends a little on how covered it was.  I actually am not offended by most images that would appear on a modeling site.  The question is really about what the rules that website has for avatars and if it is allowed.

I don't have a problem with it. My wife once showed some of her work in a gallery here and the one piece they would not hang up had an erect penis in it. Pretty silly.

What is so strange about a male photographer taking photos of the male form?

I guess that is the TOPIC of discussion.

I shoot Males as well. but I guess i have my limits..
So I assume you see nothing wrong with a Male photog shooting a male models Erect Anatomy, and then Proudly putting it on Display...(like you would do your girlfriends picture)

I think it's a context thing.  Is it appropriate to have photographs of erections in places where you would not expect those photographs to be?

In nude photography, men take photos of other men and women take photos of other women.  When it becomes more erotic, women take photos of other women masturbating and men take photos of other men with erections.

I don't think he's putting it on display like he would put his girlfriend's photo on display.  I think he's putting it on display as a photo that he is proud of taking and considers a work of art.

But there is nothing wrong with photos of female genitalia?  Personally, I'm of the "let it all hang out" school of photography.  If you are going to shoot male nudes, it seems awfully prudish not to show penises (penii?), erect or limp.

I dunno..
Your port does not ALARM me at all.
They are all males, and practically all nude.. but nothing that makes me think twice..
Nice work BTW

Thanks for the compliment.  No full-frontal nudes, and therefore no erections, in my portfolio because I didn't think it was necessary or appropriate.  I think some of my 'best' stuff is more explicit, but I don't want to post it here.

is this not the art world?! i've worked with straight male photographers and i've been photographed with my penis exposed in a tasteful manner. it's a work of art, maybe the problem is with yourself and not with the actual photographer's interests.

What he said..

I specialize almost exclusivly in Male nudes, and I do shoot the aroused/erect/hard male form. However, I try to do so in a sensual and evocative mammer, and never to be overtly pornagraphic.
And the trend has been set with beautiful work from many outstanding photographers over the years, including Mapplethorpe, Saudek etc..

Its a choice of veiwer - if you don't like, don't look..and move on. It's not a big deal. (No pun intended..)

I don't think this is odd at all, Why do men show case woman with hard nipples, why do  woman showcase men with hard dicks, why do woman showcase other woman with dard nipples. To each his own. Art and photography is in the eye of the artist and the viewer.

I couldn't agree more. I've seen photos of a womans torso with hard nipples. Why is it any different? A womans nude body can be shown in any form aroused or not, cropped to any point. Taken by a male or female. But when it is done of a man or of a man by a man it's somehow different? That is a huge double standard. Kudos to the photographer who has this as his avatar.

I'm more disturbed by describing it as "meat" than actually looking at an avatar with an erection.

Female photographers do nudes of women.  I would say its your own hang up.

American society needs to get over its homophobia.

Well I new the word PENIS, could draw fire from the mods.. didnt want to risk that.
and ERECTION... on the Post.. i can see it being a bit of a strong word.. so I said MEAT...
The word alone does not draw much attention...  But given the context of the ENTIRE thread, I can see why that may be a little strong for you..

Well, I guess I do different things with erections than meat...lmao...that's all.  When I think of meat I think of a juicy medium rare filet with a dollop of steak sauce.  Wait a minute...there's a thought...

muahahaha:-)

big_smile  Yes, quite.  American society, as a whole, does need to get over its homophobia, and its benighted morality.  There is something wrong with catching hell for using basic terminology instead of common slang; it's all good.

i think you may be a bit conservative in your thinking but so is mm as they do not allow erect penises shown at all even in ones port. i understand their thinking but do not agree with it. there are some photographers who could do it well as fine art but there are others who couldn't as their quality of work would make it look pornographic. but you seem uncomfortable with a male photographer showing another males erect penis and that sounds like you are homophobic.

And does anyone even blink if a female is enjoying or even acting as if they enjoy a shoot at that level, if it is purely a website question, ask the webmaster !

I am a confident hetro male photographer... check 'Chiseled from Granite' in my profile (shouldnt be too hard to find (damn another pun)...its good image (MHO) of a great anatomy period, male or female shouldnt matter. The human form, in all its states in a beautiful thing, regardless of gender and a good image is a good image.

would you think twice if a female photographer photographed an erect female nipple or engorged clitoris?
