Model wants pay plus free pictures for her port!!!
Model wants pay plus free pictures for her port!!!!! I am talking with a model now on who is new to modeling. She lives about a 4 hour drive from me. She wants 300.00 plus hotel expense, plus a make up and hair team, plus the pictures for her port for a days shoot. The shoot will consist of fashion, swimsuit and lingerie. I have never paid a model before and want to get an opinion from someone as to whether this is a fair offer to me and the model. I will be the first paying client the model has. She first wanted 125.00 per hour but has since dropped her price to 500.00 per day to 300.00 per day. She has email me again stating that she feels I can add to her port and that she needs better pictures. I think she is very pretty but I am not sure about the price and requirements she is asking of me. Sep 24 06 02:44 pm Link Tell her no. It's that simple. Why are you even entertaining this crap? What would you be using the pictures for? Do you have a paying client or something? And make sure she doesn't want to bring an escort with her or you'll be paying for that too the way you're indulging her delusions. I obviously do not know what she looks like, but seems to me that very special models would require that kind of upkeep. If you are going to be putting someone up, I'd love a trip to SC! ~ Sep 24 06 02:51 pm Link Sep 24 06 02:51 pm Link First things first, it's sounds pretty costly but if her look is worth it, then pay out. If not, then don't. As for images... personally, if the model is getting a cash payment, then nobody would blame you for refusing to add images in to her compensation. If she wants images, too, then her rate needs to come down. Or she needs to trade. Or you two can just not shoot. Otherwise she can do her job, accept her check and pay you for images afterwards. Not like she won't have the money... Sep 24 06 02:51 pm Link What are you getting by paying her that insane rate? A model who can't pose because she's new? Sounds like a bad deal for you, unless she has the face and body of the world's next supermodel. In that sort of situation, I'd ask for the styling team to be provided for me and that's it (no pay) - and I'm reasonably skilled at posing. Sep 24 06 02:51 pm Link Agree to pay her on the condition that she gets paid after the shoot and for every bad pose or weak look she strikes, you pay her $50 less. She'll end up owing you a bunch of money and you'll have documentation. Sep 24 06 03:04 pm Link See, I think this girl is smart. If a GWC is a guy who treats models like strippers, doesnt make sense in a Darwinian way, that some strippers type models would pray on that. I mean $300 to put on lingerie and you dont even have to give a lapdance is a good day. Whenever I see a model with no experience asking to be paid that is all I can think. Without experience, she's just being paid to take off her clothes. Sep 24 06 03:07 pm Link Melissa Lynnette wrote: Thanks Melissa: Sep 24 06 03:08 pm Link You can't expect more than 3 good hours out of a shoot so her effective rate is $100/hour. I am queen of bloopers and have been known to give crossed eyed/tongue sticking out images really quick just to loosen me and everyone up...but in my defense I consider that a strong pose (lol), would I owe money then???! Sep 24 06 03:21 pm Link If you pay her you're a sucker Sep 24 06 03:21 pm Link Said the hustler standing by the Holland Tunnel: "So let me get this straight... You want to do me, you don't want to wear a condom, and you want ME to pay YOU? All because you're a good-looking guy? Um... I think I'll just stay here and wait for the next one to come along." Sep 24 06 03:24 pm Link $100/hr is what I get paid on a good day.... and I pose nude.... and I have experience and know what I'm doing. Plus, you said the model contacted you, expressing how she likes your work and feels it can add to her portfolio cause the pictures there are no good. Um, to be logical, if she is the one who wanted and offered this shoot to happen in the first place, because it is benifitting to her...... shouldn't she be paying?? Or having a TFP? Especially when hair and make-up is provded. Come on, use your head, this is ridiculous! Anya Sep 24 06 03:27 pm Link Yea and anya is really good at it too Sep 24 06 03:29 pm Link $300 + hotel, make up and hair . . . so let's say $500.00 Speaking only for myself, if I had that much spare change, I'd hire a photographer who I admired (and would be willing) to basically tutor me for a half day on lighting and posing. Then apply those lessons. Far better money spent. Sep 24 06 03:29 pm Link Maxwell Digital Art wrote: Ok.... Sep 24 06 03:42 pm Link If you go for her offer, then I tell you what, I look great in drag and I can be had for only $275/day + expences. I bring my dog to all photoshoots and he needs to be shipped first class. Sep 24 06 03:45 pm Link Absolutely not!!!!! I've been speaking w/ photographers and I find it amazing to me that the girls who are the most demanding are the amatuers. I've started in this business as a child and have 12 years of experience and still do not charge photographers to work w/ me. The rare times which I think once was b/c the images would not have benefited me and the photographer offered to pay prior without me asking. I work w/ top agency models and they never charge photographers b/c they are happy to update their books. So tell her no thank you and do not work w/ her. Sep 24 06 03:45 pm Link Hmmm....I have to admit that is rather presumptuous of her, seeing that this is her very first paying job. I obviously do not know what she looks like, but seems to me that very special models would require that kind of upkeep. Like I said (getting back to post), I think you would need a very special model! Sep 24 06 03:52 pm Link To answer you question. Heck no you should not give her any photos if you are going to pay her. What you would be doing is paying her to build her portfolio. F that! With all that she has requested, you will be paying out far more than $500. Most MUA's charge per look. The really good one's charge at least $75 a look. You definitely want more than one look. The same with a good hairstylist. When you are paying a model, she better know how to pose. Her posing and expression better compliment each other. She definitely has to be able to give you something to work with other than just being another attractive woman. She should be versatile. If you're going to shell out that much money, place a free ad on craigslist.org and see what responses that you get back. I have worked with alot of good models by using that site. I'm sure that you will be able to find at least 3 models that you could use at maybe a $100 for 3 hour sessions. Good luck. Sep 24 06 03:55 pm Link Can someone make an "Insanity" with a slash through it icon, so we can just flash these at the beginning of insane threads? Seriously, the mental breaks with reality are fun, but it feels like the inmates are starting to run the asylum. Sep 24 06 03:56 pm Link CAN YOU SAY DIVA? It is her 1st paying gig, is she experienced? In my opinion you pay per experience. Kisses, Mel Sep 24 06 03:57 pm Link I never expect the pictures when a photographer pays but sometimes they give them to me anyway. Kisses, MEL Sep 24 06 03:59 pm Link Sounds more than fair to me. I have another shoot in Las Vegas on Oct 22nd, 2 models, one I am flying in from Kansas City, putting up in a 4 star hotel and paying her $1000 for about a 4 hour shoot. Plus I always use a licensed makeup/hair person and let the models use some of the photos for their portfolio if they want. Sep 24 06 03:59 pm Link Hope Parr wrote: I would love to shoot with you talk about spoiling the diva's LOL Sep 24 06 04:01 pm Link Dude forget about it. If you think her look could really add something to your book, then I'd do it at half the price she's asking for, although I still think paying an ameteur is ludicrous....break out the TFP, my friend. Sep 24 06 04:05 pm Link wow, you guys are harsh on models.... during shoots, I even have food and drinks available for the models, and I tell them when they need a break to get something to drink or eat to let me know and we can take a 15-20 minute break Sep 24 06 04:09 pm Link Hope Parr wrote: You must have one hell of a porn site(s). There was another thread where you boasted paying what, $5,000 for a weekend? I forget the specifics but it was out of your pocket and not a client paying. Sep 24 06 04:10 pm Link This is how the bad habit of new models charging outrageous fees is perpetuated. Man, think about this. She is new to modeling, you're her first paying client (probably her first client at all). You said she emailed you saying you can add something good to her port or something like that). She is the one who needs images. You give in to her demands and you're setting a bad precedent (something GWC's do all the time). Why is it so vital for you to shoot this model? Will she get you to shoot for major agencies? Will she get you to be published in Vogue or Playboy? If the answer is no (and I'm betting it is) then pass on it. Or make a counter offer. If you really need to shoot this model offer to pay for her hotel and gas money and SOME images for her port. Stand your ground and don't let anyone take advantage of you. Good luck Sep 24 06 04:11 pm Link Glamour Makeover Studio wrote: Unless she is the living embodiment of the nectar of life and if you're only doing this for your portfolio, unless you are a wealthy man, I'd tell the model a big fat NO. Sep 24 06 04:14 pm Link Look, guys, there is no reason to get disrespectful of either the model or the OP. So far, I've seen folks say or imply that one or the other is a sucker, a stripper, a hooker, and/or a hustler. As far as I'm concerned, every agreement between a model and a photographer is a negotiation, and if they can read an agreement as to compensation, then who are we to interfere? The OP said that she's 4 hours travel away, so it is a considerable commitment of time & expense for her to travel to the photographer & pose for him, and she is well within her rights to ask for compensation. The OP is well within his rights to determine whether the requested compensation is worth the opportunity to work with her. He should factor in her experience (or lack thereof), her looks, and what her references say. That being said, just because she thinks she needs $300 + hotel, that doesn't mean that the OP can afford (or desires to) pay that much. If there isn't any common ground, they should part ways in a professional & respectful manner. Comparing her to strippers & prostitutes means that if, in the future she finds herself in S.C., she will be unlikely to stop by & work with the guy. It's better to part ways saying something like "I understand you need this compensation to make the trip, and I think you are well worth that, but I can't afford that at this time. Keep me in mind if you ever pass through town." Sep 24 06 04:15 pm Link delusions of grandeur are a terrible thing. Sep 24 06 04:20 pm Link |
