Just noticed the new ads running on the home page here for self defense and mace / stun guns.

Sounds like the perfect answer to the chronic problem of escorts.
All models need do is enroll in a self defence course or two, and while they're earning their black belt (those spinning reverse axe kicks to the head do take time to learn, you know), carry mace or better yet, a stun gun / taser to a photo session.

Nasty photographer makes unseemly advance, (or even look rapes) and whoosh - photographer gets face full of mace, or 50,000 volts into his body leaving him writhing on the studio floor while the model makes her escape.

Sounds like a plan

Assault.
Unjustified use of force.
Etc.

BTW, What's a 'look rape'?

Just what I'm looking for: a hormonal, 19 year old diva with a tazer bigger than her attitude.

I suppose the ultimate answer is to use a fighting cage like on Ultimate Fighting, no holds barred martial arts - winner by KO or tap out.
Model and photographer enter the arena and the victor gets to either shoot or run away

I SO DO NOT AGREE WITH THIS. MODELS SHOULD HAVE AN ESCORT! A FRIGGIN STUN GUN IS GOIN TO DO YOU JACK SHYT WHEN UR 10 FEET AWAY FROM IT STANDING THERE IN YOUR UNDERWAER OR WHAT NOT. AS FOR THE SELF DEFENCE CLASSES, YEA THATS GOOD BUT UR NOT GONNA LEARN WHAT U NEED TO KNOW THAT FAST. UR BEST BET IS JUST TO BRING SOMEONE WITH YOU.

I think there should always be more than 2 people at the shoot; unless it's unavoidable.  It's a safety net and a witness.  I had a model tell me she wanted to tie me up and do things with me I didn't want.  Having an escort there prevents the silliness and models won't have to worry about GWCs!

Why be surprised?  There are lots of paternalistic, patronizing photographers.

GREAT POINT ABOUT THE WITNESS FOR BOTH SIDES. A MODEL CAN JUST AS EASY SAY OR DO SOMETHING TO A PHOTOG. YOU DONT WANNA SPEND TIME WITH A DRAMA QUEEN LOOKING FOR ATTENTION, WHILE WE SHOULD BE WORKING...

I was wrong - the ultimate defense would be a proximity collar worn by the photographer - he gets too close and boom, his head blows off (saw this in a movie, but cant remember which one )

I know many of you find it unprofessional/unsavory/childish/etc for a model to bring someone with her to a shoot, but as has been stated many many times on this site, it's a place to network, meet new people, and it's not a "professional" industry site.

Hence, when a model from MM gets a shoot offer from a photographer on MM, who's to say he/she is a completely reliable member of the business?

Now if I were to get a call from an agency telling me they wanted me to shoot with so-and-so photog for such-and-such reasons....I would have no qualms about being denied an escort.

It all has to be taken in context.

Yea, no shouting - it may wake me up...

I just had a big sign made for my studio that says "Escorts Welcome - Warning Guard Cats on Patrol.  Please check your handguns, stun guns, brass knuckles, mace, and other weapons at the door."

The last sentence of your post answers your own question.

In context means:
- you choose to work only with photographers who have good portfolios that obviously show a body of work which means their photos are not just oneoffs or stolen from multiple real photographers.
- you talk to model references of the photographer, not that the photographer gave you a list of friends to talk to, but click links of models s/he knows and send them emails.
- you look at his/her web site and see if they're a photographer or not.

I all has to be taken in context.  If you're that concerned about your safety then only work with real photographers

my solution would be for models to stop doing B/S photoshoots with B/S photographers

(i.e. one on one TFPs)

Frankly, I don't give a crap who the model is.......... there is NO MODEL that I HAVE to shoot.
If she wants to bring a female companion, fine. I have no problem with a female companion as long as the companion is a positive influence..... if she's not, then we have the most current issues of W, Vogue, Harpers, Maxium, and others in the lobby.

I just developed a new policy.  For every thug the model wants to bring, I get to have 2 larger thugs to protect me from Gina Lee's thug.  If we work hard enough, we can have so many people standing around the shooting area eyeing each other that nobody will be able to get anything done!

I thought it should be repeated once cause it seemed a bit oddddd.

So all my shots now will have the little mace bottle in the clutches of the models bound hands,  and a string in my direction if she hs a blindfold on so that she can know where to point it.

Sorry,  enough of this foooooolishness.

Let em all learn jujitsu and perhaps learn how to do some phone reference research.

thanks to all my models who have come and allowed me to shoot without concern for whether the sound in the background meant that they might be thrown into the chipper.

I bring an escort when I shoot with a photographer for the first time. My escort drops me off, meets the photographers and then leave and pickes me up when we`re done. What is the big problem with this? It`S not like the escort have to stay in the same room as us when we shoot, and if he`s not even in the same room but close by I don`t see the issue that photographers have with this!!

This is silly.  If the photographer and model don't agree on the escort thing, they just don't work together.

That said, models are invited to bring their loaded handguns (law permitting) along on any photoshoots with me.  They make me feel safe.
