For the most part though my height has not been a problem as a photojournalist.  no doubt though, when I'm working in the big city as a photojournalist, in the middle of all the tall photographers, I will have to allways find something tall to stand on to get the picture.

thats good to hear. i'm 5'4" and was considering photojournalism as an option! I had the same kind of worries

somewhere between 5'10" and 5'11".......

but I have stools and a ladder everywhere, since I change my lights for almost every shot anyway, and I can't always reach the backs, especially on the fill light (in a 30"x54" softbox) which I often have positioned on a boom almost directly over my head while shooting......I also don't always TRY to shoot at "eye level" as I try to keep angles "interesting"....

6'  and I tend to crouch a lot for body shots. I tend to like making the models look taller than go over head.

I'm 6'5", and I crouch and stoop a lot.

My buddy is 6'10" and when he takes pictures of people, they all end up looking like they have enormous heads and short little bodies. haha

6'5" and never just standing to shoot. Either down on the floor, on a ladder or perched in a tree. (don't ask)

I have a three step stool always around and I spend a lot of time laying on the floor or in a crunch position when shooting.

As I'm reading about everyone's heights, I'm beginning to think that perhaps being 5'1 can be an advantage too.  I think about all the positions I get my body in while photographing and how low I get to the ground sometimes...I think it is easier to do so at my height...

So, what kind of experiment is this anyway?

I was just wondering if there is a correlation between your height and the perspective in your portfolio. Inconclusive so far smile

You should chose photojournalism as a matter of passion and not of height!

This reminds me of the pretty girl that is 5'4" decides that if she can't runway, she becomes a MUA working backstage.

Of course, I am not saying that you are pretty! wink

The last time I was actually measured, I was not quite 6' 4". That was a few years ago, and I suppose that gravity is catching up with me some.

Anyway, I often find myself contorting my body in strange ways in order to get a slightly  lower camera angle in the studio. I'm sure it looks weird, but certainly no worse than some of the strange shit we ask models to do.

5'9 and have to kneel a lot because I haven't shot with any "real" models yet.. so I'm often pretty much taller than them. But anyways I believe I get the best pictures, when I'm doing acrobatics.. or well.. it sometimes makes the model laugh tongue

Im 6'2 and I dont think its really been a problem for me being taller then that.  Normally I stand in a really wide stance and it brings me down a lever, or I even spend time on my knees.  Ive done some shots from over the top that the extra height works out for I guess, but I dont think height matters because there are so many ways around it.

Add me to the list of 6'4" photographers who spend all their time on the floor. My shooting clothes are purposely ones I don't mind getting grubby.

Don't worry about finding something to stand on.... just learn how to use elbows, and "accidently" step on feet when shooting in a crowd.

Whoa...I was thinking that a good portion of photographers were short, or at least shorter than me, that's been my experience. You guys proved me wrong. lol

I was beginning to think that there is a total shortage of tall guys in this world.

I think the answer, quite naturally, is that it can. But it doesn't always. Some of us intentionally compensate for it, some don't, some do sometimes, and it can sometimes noticeably affect the way we normally see and relate to the world which might or might not be obvious in our work. I remember one fine art shooter's work in a gallery in San Francisco a number of years ago, and somehow getting the feeling that I was looking at a very tall person's work. I eventually met the guy, and sure enough, he was something like 6'6 or so.

i'm exactly 6ft.  you wouldn't necessarily know it from my pics, as many were shot with a waist-level finder, or with me on the ground.
