I find Craigslist and Myspace better for casting.
I have found that using Craigslist and myspace has been better for castings then any of the modeling sites. I would have to say that I get 5x to 10x more responses without any drama or negotiating. Also I also find that I get more trained actors/actresses as well as Models. How about you? I've been scouring MM for months trying to find just one good model to do some shots like the one this current avatar, and can't find a single candidate. I even pay. edited: I stand corrected too. Daniela and I are close to setting up a firm shoot date, and she would work for the sexy edgy B+W Herb Ritts-style beach shots I've been wanting to work on. I just wish there were a couple more interested models in the NY area. Aug 25 06 08:26 am Link Drama? From models? Wow! Aug 25 06 08:35 am Link I've had great luck with MM, and great luck with Myspace. I guess it depends on what you're looking for. My experience is that MM seems to have a lower contact to shoot conversion rate than larger social networking sites, although OMP is worse ![]() Aug 25 06 08:37 am Link I'm new to MM. In additon to my drive to revive my character modeling career, I am hoping it will be a good spot for me to hire talent. I have a production company that does Murder Mystery shows all over the South East. I do pay my performers, and I also like giving new talent a break, people without a lot of former credits. I made some inquiries here on MM and got no responses (so far). But I have previously found a lot of my actors/actresses on MySpace. Aug 25 06 08:40 am Link I didn't know you could find this kind of work through Myspace and Craiglist. Interesting! Where do you go in those sites to find it? I'm intrigued! I think it's easier for photographers to use, since you can contact anyone - even those that you think would work great but don't list modeling as an interest. I can see it being a little harder for models to find photographers, but I'd give it a try. Do: search, select photography in the networking affiliations, and then in the result screen limit by distance from zip code. Aug 25 06 09:00 am Link On Craigslist I've had luck with a lot of things. Never tried myspace for finding people though. Their search function is kinda wonky. You have to find people in your area and then scour their profile to find their interests. I don't see where I can search by interest. Doesn't myspace have classifieds? They should if they don't. Aug 25 06 09:11 am Link Ssoooo why are you on model mayhem? Aug 25 06 09:14 am Link Daniela V wrote: Ooooh. OUch. Aug 25 06 09:19 am Link That's a pretty good point... food for thought... I started out shooting models from CL, and graduated to MM. Now you have me thinking that I should do both... since MM for me at least is so much work to find someone that I want to shoot that wants to shoot with me. CL might get more responses from "models" who don't think they're too good for me already! Go CL Go! (But I am still a MM addict to a certain degree...) Aug 25 06 09:27 am Link I agree! Aug 25 06 09:29 am Link Wow, you've actually had success with Craigslist? Although I love to shop there, I've had Zero percent success rate, both with clients and models. Most don't even bother to reply. Aug 25 06 09:34 am Link I find CL and nycastings.com waaaaaay better than the casting calls on here and MM. I find I get responses 90% of the time, and 50% of the time I end up getting a great job out of it. Personally, when I see a casting call that I'm interested in, I'm on that like white on rice. I respond immediately, send exactly what I'm supposed to, and offer up references. I hear back from people through MM and OMP about 1% of the time. And typically, nothing happens from that. And when I don't hear back, I follow up and then sometimes I hear back...sometimes. That rarely happens on CL. For whatever reason, as a model, I have waaay better luck over there than here. My space though...I find all the great castings are in Cali. And I'm...well, not there. -D Aug 25 06 09:36 am Link Eric S. wrote: Eric, your kidding right? Why haven't you asked me to shoot? Of course Im not in NY, but willing to travel when it's paid. Besides I get to shoot with you! Aug 25 06 09:38 am Link Amanda W wrote: No, you are what he could use.. Im sure.. You have a great look.. I think your look will work for what he has in mind. Aug 25 06 09:46 am Link What I find fascinating is when I reply to the same photographer on MM and get no response, but when I reply to his ad on CL, he emails me back. I wouldn't even know where on myspace to look for castings, but occasionally I get offers for things I'd never, ever do there. In general, though, I'd say my rate of response is better on sites like MM than on craigs list. Maybe I just haven't learned to discern the wheat from the chaff on CL, but the response rate there is abysmal. Aug 25 06 09:51 am Link ditto...I have earned more money from both Craigslist and MySpace combined in the last 4 months, than the last few years on OMP and the last year or so on MM. I do not think the model sites are necessarily geared as such. CL and MS have a broader spectrum of clientel. markEdwardPhoto wrote: Aug 25 06 09:55 am Link I showed up at a shoot and the photog surprised me with a second model he picked up from Craig's List. I decided to go with it....we went to change wardrobe and I noticed that the female model had a little something extra that I don't have...a penis and the accessories to go with it. The photog pretended not to notice and shot the model anways. He was unhappy after "She" left...saying it was not cool that she was not truthful in her representation. I guess this could happen anywhere, but MM people seem to be more upfront about what your getting. Aug 25 06 09:57 am Link Bettina wrote: OMG !!! Thanks for sharing! Aug 25 06 10:51 am Link I get most of my work from this website. If I'm not getting enough work from this website, I post an ad on Craigslist and the problem is solved. I just opened a myspace for modeling purposes. I joined some model/photographer groups in my area. Nothing happened. How do you guys get work on Myspace? Do you contact people? How do I get people to contact me? Aug 25 06 10:54 am Link Bettina wrote: Did he have separate dressing rooms for ying, yang and yoon? Aug 25 06 10:54 am Link Ive never tried Craigslist before, but I know that the response I get from Myspace is a lot better then on here. On MM the first thing a model will bring up is money. I sometimes do some paid shoots, but thats not one of the first things I want to come up in any discussion. On Myspace its less professional, but for some projects it makes things a LOT easier. Aug 25 06 10:58 am Link I just gave MySpace another try and I'm sorry but I just can't handle the horrible navigation and the screams of "i LoVe tO fuCKing PaaAArty!!". Too big a filter is needed for me. Aug 25 06 10:59 am Link For me, MM is great for finding models, but sucks for finding MUAs. The Casting Calls feature blows, unless you live around LA. I find browsing with in 50 to 100 miles of my zip works better than the Casting Calls. Do models and MUAs even read the Casting Calls? Any way, I've had better luck with MM than OMP! Aug 25 06 11:02 am Link well, if you ever need an actress...wink wink hint hint ![]() Aug 25 06 11:09 am Link So far... the BEST response rate is from employees and customers of a local coffee shop. Yep. I sit down and grab some coffee, someone 'sees' what I'm doing and inquires. Before ya know it, they're requesting to set up a shoot with me. As in any other business that I've been involved in, there really is something about meeting someone face to face in order to close the deal. Despite having to weed through alot of fakers and frauds on Craigslist, I've got close to a 100% response rate. Unfortunately for the models, alot of the ads from photographers or 'agencies' are just from some horny guys that are trying to get a hot looking girl to date them or strip for 'em. It's gotta be really difficult for a model to actually find a legitimate offer through CL. Sadly, only about 20% of the MM members that I contact regarding a project bother to write back, even to decline an offer, which I feel is not professional conduct. If someone at least replies to my inquiry (even if they're declining) I will have no problem recommending them to someone else or offering them a different gig to suit their needs when the time comes. If they never respond (especially if it's for a project that they're requesting) there will never be any recommendations or other offers for them. For me, Myspace is a complete waste of time. Putting all of the predators and scammers to the side, there's still too many people pretending to be something they're totally unqualified to be. Believe me...Photographers, Models, and Stylists alike... inappropriate attitudes and lack of response can cost someone a chance at obtaining a great gig, without them ever knowing it happens. Aug 25 06 11:31 am Link I have found that the best way to get models, is to go to photographer's pages and then follow the links to the models they have worked with, and contact them. It also seems to help when I copy the photographer's profile, word for word, so the model will feel familiar with me. Aug 25 06 11:35 am Link I always find strange people. Don't get me wrong, I have met some awesome people off craigslist like photographer Rob Howard or Henna Artist Julia Britz ![]() Aug 25 06 11:41 am Link markEdwardPhoto wrote: I hate myspace, and gave up on answering their casting.
