I got this instant message recently from an IM name untitledartist06.
He constantly IM's me claiming to be some fine arts photographer looking for models for an upcoming shoot. He keeps asking me what my model mayhem number is. And is vague about all the questions I ask him. He admitted he doesn't even have a model mayhem account. And yet he's on here trying to recruit models?
He says he'll sign up soon. And asked if there was any other way of contacting me. I don't usually give my number out, so I asked him for his. If he was remotely serious. And then he says, messages are fine. And quickly signs off.
My red flags are waving high. What do I do?

Based on what you wrote, I'm seeing red flags myself.  My # is in my profile, as are web links, emails, etc.  If you can't get "real world" contact info, I'd be very leery.

At 22 years old your " strange'o'gauge" is working just fine ! Your plenty good looking enough and have a good body of work to get quality offers.

Simply end contact with person.

I think you should marry him but get a prenuptial agreement in case he tries to kill you.

i GUESS you should get a clue and get your IM and other non portfolio information off the net. i bet you bring an escort to your shoot to assure your safety after giving the predator your address too?

legitimate business is not done via IM (until and unless a solid relationship has already been built).

I just posted a website on the model matters forum that has a lot of information about scams of all types...including the recently very popular photography scams.

I think you are a bit unfair to the OP. In any case you could have said that it is not a good idea to post e-mail, instant msg, etc. on her MM page without talking down.

Jamie-Ann,

Yes, no question about it, this person is a total annoying jerk. About as non professional as you'll find.  It's probably best no to post your e-mail, or instant messaging address on MM.  Anyone who is MM member can use MM mail to contact you (which should eliminate a pretty good percentage of idiots, but not all of course), and then once you talk a bit you can then give out more information.

In answer to the "Photographer or Predator" question I'd say predator. In answer to what you should do, run away from him and don't have any other contact with him.
