Escort brought camera & did their own shoot ?!?!
Ok here's the story... So the model brought an "escort" to a shoot, who mostly just sat and ate the photographer's food. Like it was a buffet or something. Then the photographer invited her to bring in her camera. So then, she went out to her car, got her DSLR, plugged in the strobe between shots, and did her own mini shoot? Is this normal? Edit : Ok people. Yes, the story was true, but now that I've got my fill of useless drama...we can let it go.... Aug 03 06 09:11 pm Link Sounds a bit rude, except: the photographer invited escort to bring in camera? That sounds like an opening to me. If the photographer had an issue with the escort shooting, what is the purpose of telling them to get their camera? So, rude, unless consentual. Aug 03 06 09:16 pm Link No, its not normal. But the photographer did invite another person to shoot. So what's the problem? Aug 03 06 09:17 pm Link Iris Swope wrote: I don't see any rudeness at all. The camera was in the car and she was invited to go out and get it. Aug 03 06 09:17 pm Link When I started out, I worked with professional photographers and always brought my camera. I usually got a few shots in between sets-with the photog/model permission. In the case above, the escort was actually invited to shoot. Nothing wrong with that... Aug 03 06 09:18 pm Link Why, in heaven's name, did the photographer invite the escort to bring in her camera??? Aug 03 06 09:18 pm Link I take my camera everywhere I go, but would never break it out on someone else set unless invited like in the case you just stated Aug 03 06 09:22 pm Link Iris Swope wrote: WTF! Don't tell me that you let someone walk all over you like that? A model bringing an escort is fine by me, I can even live with the food being eaten. Models have even had escorts who were also photographers of various levels, I'm fine with that! I have been an escort for models too! BUT I have NEVER had such a request from a model to be able to pull out her DSLR, plug in and have an escort shoot? Aug 03 06 09:25 pm Link When I escort, I take my camera.... but we scout locations, and shoot on the way to, or on the way home from the shoot. It's my escort tax. Aug 03 06 09:25 pm Link Colford Studios wrote: Yes, that is it! Why did the photographer invite the model to bring the camera in and shoot in the first place? Did the model suggest or ask if it would be ok? Then the answer should have been "No!" End of question. Aug 03 06 09:27 pm Link On a location shoot I had a boyfriend/escort follow us around taking pictures from the same angle with his camera. I was so taken aback, I really didn't know what to say. Fortunately he seemed to get bored after awhile and stopped. But if this person you speak of was invited, then what's the problem? At camera clubs, stuff like this happens all the time. Aug 03 06 09:31 pm Link I believe the photographer was being facetious by saying go get your camera, in other words the escort must have had some unwanted input that was annoying. Aug 03 06 09:34 pm Link Can someone tell me why people don't have control over their shoots/sets? You let people into your house so they can rummage through your underwear drawer and refrigerator as well? Aug 03 06 09:35 pm Link Ya know what, to me it is really up to whatever the photographer wanted to do. I have had models from out of town have photographers drive them to my studio. These are people I knew were photographers that were merely acting as taxi drivers. When I was done shooting, on more than one occassion I have invited them to use the studio and shoot. I had no problem with it. I have had models bring frineds who had never seen them with professional make-up or wardrobe. A couple have asked if they could take a picture for their scrapbook. That has never bothered me as well. To me it is a question of demeanor. If someone comes expecting to shoot, I have a problem with it. If it is someone I know or there is a harmless situation, like a friend who wants a snapshot, there really is no issue. Where I would have a problem is if someone brought a camera and expected to shoot. Aug 03 06 10:14 pm Link So if the escort morphed into a photographer, how on EaRFFF did the model feel safe?!?!?!! Aug 03 06 11:30 pm Link megafunk wrote: Yes, because all photographers are evil and slimy. Aug 03 06 11:33 pm Link Iâm guessing she thought she would go get a little point and shoot. Was shocked when a DSLR came out and she knew how to plug it into the sync cord. Aug 03 06 11:40 pm Link yes exactly photog superiority? photo shock! Aug 03 06 11:50 pm Link Iris Swope wrote: Well, it is only a story... Aug 03 06 11:51 pm Link This story sounds like a lie,I believe the model had an over bearing escort who brought their camera into the shoot and at some point started to shoot and maybe the photographer was spineless and didn`t know how to stop it, or there was more to this story ,sounds like pre fab bull.... Aug 03 06 11:51 pm Link This is a joke! John Aug 03 06 11:53 pm Link Iris why did you let this happen to you? Aug 03 06 11:54 pm Link This story is entirely true, yet hysterical. And, while we were discussing it, we were mentioning posting about it on MM. Here's a spin on the story though....I'm the escort with camera (and the one who ate all the photographers food) He asked me 4 different times if I wanted to shoot with his stuff, before I went and got the camera. And no, I wasn't being obnoxious, I was quietly reading a magazine. Wait, maybe he was hoping I'd quit eating his food!?!?! And! I posted this from his personal laptop..... lol But his studio (and snacks) rock! Aug 04 06 12:10 am Link *snort Aug 04 06 12:15 am Link I have a feeling the escort was a GWC or photographer? hmmmmm, Aug 04 06 12:18 am Link oldguysrule wrote: You don't know how excited I was, that I got to post a stupid topic like that though! Aug 04 06 12:20 am Link so let's see if this thread can just stop right now.... i ask you to do something and you do it.... then i get upset because you did what i asked you to do.... sounds like the only person messed up is the person who offered in the first place... no discussion needed.... Aug 04 06 12:20 am Link The photographer is the director. He or she makes the rules. That he would allow the escort to go and get there DSLR and start shooting... this to me is very unprofessiona.l Aug 04 06 12:25 am Link Nope, the story is entirely true, I saw it all happen. It was confusing...but funny! And yes, she was giggling all excited to post about it on MM. The "original" photographer didn't mind though! He wasn't the one that made the post! (we really did eat all of his snacks though ) Aug 04 06 12:27 am Link nick latino wrote: No one was upset, I just wanted to make a post about it Aug 04 06 12:29 am Link WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS THREAD......... Aug 04 06 12:30 am Link Iris Swope wrote: Yes, yes it is...and that's why people are getting upset. Aug 04 06 12:32 am Link Iris Swope wrote: Perhaps he hopes you will 'come back and visit'. Aug 04 06 12:34 am Link I'd think the model would be distracted from the primary photographer, which would detract from the purpose of the photo shoot in the first place. I always ASK models to bring an escort, if nothing else, to help hold a reflector or something if I can't find an assistant. Aug 04 06 12:36 am Link Tim Casey Photo wrote: Oh no, the model wasn't distracted. The primary photographer just sat back and watched Aug 04 06 12:37 am Link Who's studio was it? Who's light kit was it? I think the proper thing to do would hve been to ask you "the scheduled photographer" if it was cool to do a few shots. Aug 04 06 12:38 am Link |
