I just wanted to write and ask all MM members what they believe to be real modeling. I've been told that "ass" shots and going half naked is not modeling, only if it's done right. I've browsed many photographers ports and in a great percentage I've found mostly those mentioned "ass" shots. I want to know if you MM members think it's model-like to show your ass for TFP/TFCD or whatever? And I'm not talking about the Victoria's Secret type stuff. I mean the real "I'm in the bathroom not doing much but takin my clothes off and it's borderline makin me look like a slut" shots. Please tell me what you think. TTYL!!!

when I do TFCD I like to get as many shots as possible, covering the model head to toe, and let them sort it out. Who knows what you come up with, half of good photography is luck wink

The shots get taken because a photographer and a model worked together. Don't take them if you don't want to.

I wont take them. I think all shots should have meaning to them. And I get tired of seeing so many ports only focus on "pleasing men". I think they should have some creativity to them and not just be for the purpose of the "ass". I just wanted to know what everyone thought about it.

Damn, I'd better put some asses in my port. Now I feel like .... like I'm underassed or something.

Sniff. Everyone's got asses but me. Dammit.

Modeling is purely about showcasing, whether it be a product, mood, event, etc.
You connect with the sensory organs within each of us. Memory serves as a reminder to those with experience, I try to understand the driving force for even the virgin of thoughts...

model like?

What's model like?  There are so many genres of modeling that one particular pose and or style can't "define" what is "model like".  Vida Guerrera got a (reported) million and the cover of Playboy for doing (for the most part) NOTHING BUT ass shots going around half naked. She's been on the cover of FHM, Stuff and Smooth magazine.  Had numerous videos, a Burger King commercial and a couple of minor roles on TV.  all from doing "being in the bathroom looking like a slut".  But I would gather that to you she's not a model.

But what to YOU is real modeling?  If it's walking runways and paris and posing in Victoria's Secret catalouge then it can conversely be said that any girl that isn't 5'9" or taller with 34-23-35 measurements isn't a REAL model, because the only ones doing that HAVE to fit into those criteria.  So does that make YOU a real model?

No I'm not saying that. I'm talking about the ones where you go to someone;s house, strip down to whatever and take a picture, not a photo. A photo speaks a million words but anyone, I believe, can take a picture. A photo is marketable and has a purpose and I'm not saying that no "ass" shots don't have that purpose, how else would playboy have made his millions? I'm saying that some of these photographers and some people posing as photographers come on here just to find new models and use them to see them in less and less clothing, this is the point I'm trying to make.

When you buy a car do you only look at the front end.   Or do you walk around kick the tires and pop the trunk as well?

There are a million and one types of photographers and i would imagine there are that many types of models.

If you were to go and do a secession with a photographer shooting figure studies with a 5x7 would that make you any less of a model than if you went and did a secession with someone doing glamour with a 35mm?

Some styles of photography require the gratitous ass shot, others do not.  If your not comfortable with the gratitous ass shot, then don't work within  that style.

Well in your initial post you said that it has no purpose, other than to make the model look like a borderline slut.  Now if what you are talking about is skill level that's debatable.  Charlie Langella is one of Maxim's main photographers.  His work with them has a purpose, it is to give 1 million plus readers across the world a woody and a fantasy of a female they can never have.  Joe Blow on ModelMayhem has the same purpose when he takes his pics in his bathroom with a stripped down model and an on camera flash.  For the most part the main difference is budget and talent.

Now if you are talking about photographers that use their cameras as a means to JUST see girls naked/ scantily clad, then this is another issue (that has been discussed to death)  completely apart from your original statement.

Well, as long as I'm here, and my port is assless, I'm accepting ass applications. If you have the right ass for the job, let me know.

All asses line up here.  Extra points for perky n round. If I need an ass in my port, it has to be an exceptional ass.

(I'm just trying to see how many times I can get the word ass in a post, you know. I'm such an...)

That is apart of what I'm talking about. I never said it didn't have a purpose because some do. I was talkin about the shots that don't have any purpose except to see a woman's ass, or like you said "JUST see girls naked".

I know what you are talking about. That is why I am here in ModelMayhem. In some other pages there the most shots are just those "ass" shots taken from babies to grannies... In here I still think good percentage of photographers and models are for the right reasons. And not just picking up sex-company or for some other secondary reason.

What comes to nudity or ass or breasts shots... even porn shots... it is a matter of style and meaning for me that counts. I think everyone can tell with their own eyes what photos really work as a photo... and what are just taken because model want to "show herself" to public or photographer wants to "get model undressed".

That's not an ass shot..... it's me lying down, and it's a senior picture from 12th grade!! Plus it was one of the first pics I put up when I joined MM. So of course it's view alot. I just put the others up about a month 1/2 ago.

I have noticed a large percentage of "ass" shots (quality) to be geared towards FHM/Maxim style commercial market.  It is a commercial market and it helps promote these models private ventures such as websites, posters and calendars.  So yes these are models, and when not shooting, just part of the general public like all of us.   Art is art and I just don't get why Rodin's 'David' is such a great piece of work with his thang dangling, but hey Stanford University had to have a copy plus other like works.  It isn't for me, but still art.

Just so you know my post was not meant to be argumentitive in the least, I'm just trying to understand your point.  Is it poorly done ass shots you dislike?  Like an ass shot with great lighting done in beautiful studio is ok, but the same one done in some guys apartment with an on camera flash is a no no, que no?  Or is it the intent of the photographer?  because you have PLENTY of photogs on here that have up crap ass photos but the INTENT  to make a good shot was there, they just haven't reached that level in skill, then you have guys that  can take a TERRIFIC photo but are still slime balls that just shoot ass shots to get a cursory look at the ass.

Good point but those are seen as creative and meaningful. I mean the ones that just don't do anything but show off an ass, sometimes ugly sometimes raunchy, and then sometimes borderline creative but still just a picture.

Its not "My" theory...When I studied ART HISTORY in High School, my teacher told me:

NAKED:  Is when you don't want to be seen with clothes OFF (Like somebody walks in on you taking a shower or changing your clothes, etc.)

NUDE: Is when you WANT to be without your clothes...

That's why they call it a NUDE BEACH and thats why they call it Nude art, etc.  NUDITY is usually attached to art...

Its just semantics, but there is some meaning behind it...

As for me, I personally don't do it...my husband took my nude pics...If I get paid a lot of $$$$ for playboy or something, MAYBE...but definitely not for TFCD...if that's the case the photographer just wants to see you "NAKED"...get it!???

Maybe some girls like being NUDE (and thats why they are more comfortable doing TFP/CD nude)....

Just do what your heart tells you...if the idea is VERY ORIGINAL, then don't rule it out...

O, shoot meeee. Hm. Well, I don't like to charge, or pay... so I guess I'd have to barter. An eye for an eye.

Damn few people I'd let run around with those shots, though. And probably even fewer who'd want to.
