Several of the models I have on my portfolio here and my website are larger than a size 10.  This one has gotten me more work with other models than just about any photo I've taken since.

I have found that the women whom I get the best images from are those with a vibrancy and love for themselves that has little to do with body size or shape.

I do agree that this industry tends towards the thin side of things too much.  However there are trends in the other direction now.   The Dove ad campaigns, for instance. (a href="http://www.campaignforrealbeauty.com/flat3.asp?id=2287&src=InsideCampaign_firming">Here)

Well, I'm fat, curvy, BBW, whatever you want to call me.  I was shy of my body for a long time, even before I got fat, but I realized that my desire to collaborate on fantastic art was greater than any body shame I might feel.

I like bringing back notions of curvy goddesses competing for Paris's attention.  I like challenging the idea that only skinny girls can look sexy while naked.  I like challenging the idea that fetish images only arouse if they depict thin, cellulite free flesh.  And you know what?  I wanna keep challenging the slim=sexy stereotype.

I'm young, and rather than hiding until I lose massive amounts of weight, I'm gonna enjoy my body and enjoy creating art.

I wish more would model for me!

This is one of my all time favorite photos I've taken, and it's of a big guy:

As soon as I find a photog willing to shoot me, I'm all for it. smile

I'm working to schedule several men to pose for me soon.   I have been looking, unsuccessfully, for source material to give me ideas on posing, etc.  I have worked almost exclusively with women so far.

Oooooooh me me me!!!  I'm a big girl artist's model!!!  I love to model for the sake of art... unfortunately it's difficult to get photogs that want to work with me for some reason... maybe I'm just a crappy model?  Or maybe it's b/c I refuse to turn to the unruly ways of chubby porn!  LMAO!  Whatever the reason, I model strictly as a hobby.  I have no intention of quitting my day job lol.

Shyly + Mockingbird Girl + Lapis = INSPIRATION!!!!  I'm gonna be just like you ladies when I grow up! smile

One of the first images I ever posted in my port here is of me, a pair of shades, a pair of shoes, and an old beat up guitar.  It is still one of my (and my hubby's) absolute favorites, even though I was unsure how other people would see it.  To my knowledge, there weren't too many people keen on seeing big bodies sans clothing (boy was I naïve).  But, of course... that was before I ever laid eyes on Miss Shyly's profile... one of the biggest, most beautiful, naked bodies I've ever seen! smile

Well, small or big I am sure you can find an artist to take your photo...like I said earlier...true artists, whatever their medium, will appreciate whatever subject they have to work with.

I've gotten both sides of the argument. either I'm way too big, which I get a lot, or I'm not big enough. I've had so many rude messages from photographers in my area calling me some of the worst names. One sent me an unsolicited email about how I should never ever contact him because he would never in a million years work with me because I was 'huge and ugly'. I never even sent him an acknowledgement or anything! I wasn't insulted though. Well, I was, but I didn't give up like this guy wanted!

Well if you ladies would like to break in to art modeling I can recommend a few steps:

1) to get the portfolio go to local colleges and find out if they're looking for artist's models.
2) craigslist...  List your stats and that you realize you're bigger than the average model, but you're looking to be an artist's model
3) local art collectives - there are probably a few in your area...sculptors/painters/photographers...  get in there and get the modeling done for them.

You have to realize that the percentage of actual "artists" on this site is very very small...this site is mostly dedicated to Glam/Fashion/Commercial portfolio work.  I admit, it's one of my ambitions too.  Some of us have artistic motives as well though, but finding an artist around here can be tough.

Art is in the eye of the creator. The question should be can you make a BBW look artistic.

Shyly,Mokingbird Girl,Lapis You are all very beautiful and talented and you are an inspiration. As a photographer, I think it is a shame when I talk to a woman and tell her that I want to take her photo and she doesn't want to because she is bigger than a twig and society has made her feel like she is less than good enough to do ANY photo , let alone a nude one. I think big is beautiful and I look forward to shooting more big girls in the future.Keep up the great work.

I've seen this guy somewhere... I think I came across him on a webpage... if I remember correctly, he is an artist's model out in Cali.  His site had tons of totally kicka$$ images and he inspired some really awesome artwork that he was displaying as well.  Hmm... I'll try to find it again.

Wow I am late here too. Ooh well. I really don't like the term BBW don't know why but I never have. Anyway I am really interested in doing some implied nudes on some grainy black white film. I have never done any nudes. I was topless once but covered my breast for fear of something. I am not sure what. Anyway my two cents. I think all woman naked are lovely as long as the pictures are tasteful I see so many pics on here that are tacky.

I too wish that there were more bbw or "fat" model who were willing to pose for artisticly created photos.
Shyly I have been a long time fan of your modeling endeavers. And thanks for the link to the other bbw model. I loved the pose that appears to be done in a corn field or something similar.
As a retired professional wedding / portrait photographer I am eagerly trying without much success to located plus size models.

I have had extremely good fortune in being able to photograph a number of BBWs!!! They have been soo much fun to work with, watching their level of confidence in themselves rise during a photo shoot. Far too much hurt has been inflicted to those who are not of the Madison Ave mold!!

Shame, as BBWs have as much and some times more to offer a photo session if variety of poses and emotions captured as more thin models.

Enough said

Here are a couple of my efforts. Both I shot with Technical Pan 120 with a 6x9 old German box camera called a Gevabox. The second one is fuzzier because I scanned the negative over my flatbed with a sheet of white paper on top of the negative.

I have to say that Shyly's portfolio is one of the most inspring I've come accross.  I love the diversity of the photos, I love the images, and I absolutely adore her!  Enough so that I have actually modified my entire thought process about photography, in part due to her inspirational art.

I believe that photography has the ability, or power, if you will, to change a persons perception of something, and/or somebody.  If you can show the world that a woman is beautiful regardless of shape or size, that is a strong message!  I have taken 1000's of images of my wife.  I feel she is extremely beautiful, however, she has not always felt beautiful, because of her size.  Partly, through my photography I have been able to show her "how I see her" and it has literally changed her life, and mine.  Images, such as those shown in this thread have that same potential.

I find that every woman is beautiful.  Sometimes you have to find a way to bring out that beauty, but it is there.  It's just usually hidden behind badly perceived self-images.  If society could just stop being afraid of what someone else might think, and feel good about themselves, they will not be so quick to discriminate against others who don't "fit" their synthetic standards for beauty

Kev I am in the same boat. Shyly and models like her have also changed my perception of larger women and my approach to photography of them.

Well said Kev. I first met Shyly in a cyber way through a Yahoo forum that I belonged to that was run by Shyly and another BBW. I have been inspired by her work since. And, I too have changed my mind about photography of women in gereral and BBW's in particular.

Why is it that the first thing people think of when you say BBW Modeling is paysite work? I think it's a shame...

the sad part is that those kind of insecurities have nothing to do with Size.. I have shot nude women from size 00 to size 22 and EACH had their own set of insecurities about being nude, but each worked thru their own issues and realized they wouldnt burst into flames during the shoot.. LOL

So the only way to move past it is to do it.. Treat it like Therapy.. that is what I tell the people I shoot with.. Cheap therapy and you get snacks afterward.. smile

Good luck with your journey.. You only live once, dont live with "what if's" when you have the power to choose differently..
