As a photographer, I use MySpace to communicate with many of my models. Some are there more often than here.

I will maintain civil tones, but some of the MySpace page designs are chaotic, cluttered, and vomit-inducing. Often, it is impossible to even find the places that one must click to send mail, request friends, etc.

And don't get me started on the automatically-playing music!

Let's hope that MM never allows as much leeway in page design in order to protect the web-design challenged from themselves!

It blows.  No offense.

Since all MySpace pages look about as heinous, is it even technically possible to create a decent looking page on there?

I agree, most of the pages take foreverrrrrr to load, and Im on broadband.

One guy asked to add me since he was advertising his clothing line or something, but took 10 mins just for everything ha had on his page to show up....
Its crazy I tell you. My page is simple and to the point about my photography. I still have the default white background lol...

Anything else is too much....

but this Myspace page is pretty cool..........

I know what you mean. I get add requests on there, click to see who the person is, and then my browser crashes from all of the useless blinking crap they have on their pages. That's an automatic 'deny'.

With some painstaking CSS, they don't have to be so obnoxious... unfortunately, most of the people on the site probably don't know any HTML, let alone anything that's come along since.

I can't stand myspace and all the vomit inducing crap people put on their pages.  It's so incredibly annoying.

I've had several models contact me through myspace and when I look at their page its so bad I can't help but think to myself "this person can't possibly be a good model due to her bad taste!!"

I have served MySpace a Notice Of Infringement (NOI) on 7 different occasions. My weblogs will show a MySpace user hotlinked to an image of mine, as their wallpaper. I used to switch the image, but now I just totally block MySpace in my .htaccess file

I will have nothing to do with MySpace.

Most myspace pages are pretty terrible.
My myspace pet peeves are:
- The automatic music.
- Pages where the layout is warped because of far too many tacky pictures.
- Obnoxiously "pimped" out pages.

I've tried to keep my to a plain color and the writting small. And I try to keep my friends list to people I know.
At the moment i'm working on learning CSS to furthur imporve it.

They obviously have no talent designing web pages, which is to be expected, because anyone can put up a page.

Oh my GOD!  I didnt know you could do a page on MySpace that didnt cause brain hemmorhages and bleeding eyeballs.  So it really is completely clueless designers.  Huh.  Learn something new every day.

Good job.  Looks almost pro.

Josie, did you use an overlay? And if so, do you have any idea, off the top of your head, why my overlay isn't working properly in IE? It looks great in Firefox but in IE, it's off...

umm my dear, that is why Myspace created the features "add" when you go to an artist page.

I am one of those people who have a crazy page with wild bright colors and music and jumping lines! *evil laugh* muahaha But I say why not?  You can learn alot about a person's personality from the things that they put on myspace page.

Yep, the page starts loading, your mouse starts moving weirdly, and you think "Quick! Save the Computer! Hit Alt-F4 before it crashes!"

Well, that's me anyhow....

There is a way to stop most music from automatically playing!!

Go to Account Settings
Privacy Settings
There's an option for automatically start music.
You can Stop it!!!!
(my sister showed me that yesterday, I was so happy)

Claudia and Angel are hot enough to compensate wink

Mine is the hum-drum basic because a few of my friends kids were on it - you'll see one of them wanted me to make my myspace "look pretty"     LOL

I like the ones you can actually read the text and the music has got to go (or at least be off by default)

Hey Al? How's it been?

Not to hijack but Al was the first photographer to shoot me, 2 years ago this month. (not sure the date) LOL

actually, since I have a record of all my emails since 2004, it was Monday, July 5th, 2004! LOL. In two days, it will have been 2 years for me....

The best that can be done is to stick with the defaults as I did:

thanks, and ooooh, I REALLY like your page!! Very nice!

And for all who are interested, I used this site to do mine

http://5thirtyone.com/5thirtyonev2/

I first used it as a start, and then customized it, but when I realized it looked bad in IE, I went back to the template to try and find the problem. Never found it...and I then I lost interest, until today, LOL.

Get rid of the music player.
Adjust it so that it will fit on screen without having to scroll.
Ditch the small pink text on black background.
In fact, ditch the all-black background altogether.  They're hard to read & make for ugly, jarring page transitions.
Get rid of the animated comp shot with all the closeups of your face & the thing that pops up across it.

That'll make your face loaad in a timely enough fashion & stop hurting peoples' eyes enough to see anything else that might be wrong with it.

They're almost universally horrible
I also surf with volume on mute & sunglasses to handle the switch to normal colors after an all-black page
