I really enjoyed shooting with Dmitry when I was still in the bay area: http://www.drivebackintime.com

He got me my first magazine spread that was more than a page or two. big_smile

Thank you Josie!  I looked at your port and the "wronkled bedsheets back drop" made me laugh.  It gives me inspiration to see you are 5'2" and 120lbs and have got some serious work out of the business.  I am 5'4" and 120lbs and I feel like it is an uphill battle thinking that people are looking for 5'8" and 110 lbs or something like that. lol.  Anyways thank you for the response about old time photos.  I love the look of them and want some in my portfolio!

I've done a couple noir style shots.

oldy timey how?

You mean using digital to emulate period shots from the 40's or 50's or older?

Or you mean still using film?

Or using film to emulate period shots?

It is going to sound cheesey/campy to some.  But I like the old time photographs like Josie showed me and also the antique looking photos you can get taken when you are on the boardwalk on the east coast.  They have the costumes, sets, and I know it is easy to make an image sepia-toned.  I was trying to find a photographer in my area (Pittsburgh, PA) who has that gear (western costumes like corsets, big dresses, period clothing, old looking scenery), but haven't found anyone yet.

I enjoyed making this shot quite a bit..  Started with a picture of Marion Davies as inspiration..  Got slightly sidetracked, but liked how it looked like an antique cameo..

Would love a chance to work on more of these.. Get better at the processing..

I do a fair amount of portraiture to mimic paintings

https://www.keradwc.com/2004_sca/0103_w12/image/20040103_201555.jpg

And a little bit of 30's/40's
https://www.keradwc.com/outgoing_images/2004/20041107_141606r3.jpg

And some 40's noir, none of which seems to be online right now.

Don't know of any in the PA area?  There are a few in NYC like me and Mark Lacy.  And I like Vlad's work too.

I really, really love that recreation of the picture, but I also love the idea of shooting that in the first place.

I would love to shoot a period piece.  I love the twenties and thirties.  But I also hove medieval Europe and the western US.  I think it'd be fun to have a book of yourself as if you were from all different eras.

Part of a 20's old-timey series I'm working on, which I'll never finish:

Photoshopping as I write this an even older old-timey thing I just shot for a client, Elizabethan-ish I guess.

Well I haven't done any sepia toned western themes like you find on the boardwalks but I've done this:

https://photofurnace.com/glamour/DSC_0018_S.jpg

I think a more elaborate corset and gown shoot would be a riot.  Fun project idea.

Oh here is another idea - not "old timey" per se but sort of related.

I'm currently editing down an 40's-ish pinup shoot with a model I've shot in industrial/goth, medieval, 40's swing, and renaissance. Victorian and/or Edwardian is probably next. (She's a costumer.) It's kind of cool.

Great shots - the third one makes think of The Ring, which is not a good thing to think about just before bed.  Thanks a lot.

I think it'd also be fun to dress up like historical figures for photographs, or be transformed into a celebrity.  There are some amazing make up artists that can do that.

Love the repro, Dani.

To the OP-- even on the 1930s shoot I did, we had to rent the costume (dress and fur) separately.  I bought the wig off of ebay.  Even Dmitry, who shoots this stuff all the time, does not keep all of that on hand.  I would imagine you'd be hard pressed to find a photographer who did...

Josie,

Thanks for the advice. As a newbie I don't know what is expected of me or what to expect from photographers.  I will keep this in mind.
