hey all....
thought it might be a good idea to start a 'agency check' thread for llamas who are based in L.A. or planning to come and want to check out agencies to work with. if you're signed already, were signed, employed or have directly involvement with the agency somehow, please share your experiences with any L.A. agency...good, bad or otherwise. tell us how much you're working or not working. are you getting the quality of bookings you expected or do you feel like more can be done for you. here's a few agencies to get this discussion started.... Feb 05 10 12:52 pm Link I would not say this or that agency is good or bad. Its not what one agency can do
for other llamas. Its what one agency can do for you; as an individual. Big or small, an agency that gets you paid work is good. Don't believe the hype, Results are what matter. Feb 05 10 11:14 pm Link Ah okay! Thanks for clearing that up Feb 06 10 01:54 am Link surely someone has some agency experiences to share???

There's a couple agencies that are HUGE and you don't get a lot of personal attention, IMO. But sometimes those really big agencies get lots of inquiries. Tough call sometimes which is better.
Feb 06 10 09:07 am Link Hey Kellie - just read you're local now. Welcome to LA. Which agency are you signed at here? Feb 06 10 09:17 am Link Jason Todd Ipson wrote: thanks Jason! If not then they'll probably be bitter and tell you their agency sucks and what not. Kinda hard to sift through the BS.
Feb 06 10 11:48 am Link I've heard good and bad things about most of the agencies here. So it's hard to say because everyone has an opinion. Feb 06 10 12:47 pm Link Deadlynightshade wrote: guess that's what i am looking for.
Feb 06 10 04:02 pm Link With all of the agencies listed above should I even bother with email submissions or should I just do snail mail? Feb 06 10 04:21 pm Link Heres the thing.. When I first started shooting. A few photographers said Otto models was not good. But some of the most working models I've met were through Otto.
So what does it mean? Don't believe what you hear. I also met a model who said she use to be signed with Ford, she her agent offered her coke and speed to help her lose weight. When I asked who her agent was, she said "um I forgot" So that may have been a lie. I remember one model saying "I could never sign with L.A. models, I don't like Peter" The next time I shot her she called the guy shes living with to let him know when she was coming home. When she hung up her cell phone she said "He wants you to shoot some head shots of me" When I asked who it was, she said "Oh its Peter" So what I have learn is that One thing has nothing to do with another. Don't bad mouth an agency that may get you work in the future. One model who gets rejected will say "oh that agency sucks" But will sign with them in a heart beat. If you want gossip, tales or stories. Or "hey never work or get signed by this agency" Most likely told by a scorned model.. Who is bias. Want to know a bad agency? When they offer you the world and ask to for you to sit on his casting couch.. Feb 06 10 04:46 pm Link LA is also unlike any other market in the world since many folks have several agencies, They will have Krista rep them for runway, a print agency, a commercial agency and a legit agent for those that do acting (some even a voice over agent) and many of those who act will have managers in the mix as well.
I have found that there is little packaging that goes on anymore and a model that is not on the path will probably not be invested in to get her there so talent in LA can flounder while everyone hopes something will hit, but no one makes it happen (including the talent, who often is not pro-active enough to do it for themselves). Some agencies simply do not have the relationships with the bigger clients though they can keep you busy yet your career will not go anywhere, but your rent will be paid. (for a little while at least) It all depends on what you want. This is a harder market than NY as it does not have a clear cut definition. Feb 06 10 05:27 pm Link Hey yeah i'm with MI and i love it. everyone there is really really nice and helpful and i love how they call me "little jessica" lol! Feb 06 10 09:55 pm Link M has a bloated women's and men's boards, taking on way too many people that have no real business being taken on. Feb 06 10 10:04 pm Link

Reason: not helpful Comments: Again, please start your own thread. Feb 06 10 10:13 pm Link I think you missed a few. Most of the ones you posted are primarily fashion oriented, here are a few that are more commercial although they do some fashion, usually sportswear/swimsuits/fitness. They've all been around for many years and the first one, CESD, is very big with an office in NY and does a lot of fashion as well as commercials, voice-over, runway, etc. Brand has been in OC (ok, not strictly LA) for at least 20 years and over the years represented many high-profile non-fashion models like Cindy Margolis and Brooke Burke when they were doing catalogs and ads. I've had friends with all of them, no bad stories that I can think of. Remember, LA is also a film town, and many of the models with these agencies are also (usually) struggling actors for film, tv, and commercials, usually with other agencies, although some of these agents have commercial(s) departments as well as print.

Feb 07 10 01:35 am Link I don't think any one would, or should, dish their "opinions" in this place. Who wants to burn their bridges, post here. It's kind of like that. Feb 07 10 01:50 am Link It's very, very interesting that only one model so far has responded to the OP's query. I can speculate as to why...but I'm not sure of the reason. OP-you're an experienced agency model. Why do you think you're not getting the response you wanted?
-Jenny www.houseofthailand.com Feb 07 10 01:54 am Link I can only speak to the agencies that I have experience with.
M Model Management (not to be confused with Models International or M Intl.) is a fantastic agency. I have an excellent relationship with both of my agents and have booked some solid work from them. I do not believe their board is bloated or weak, I have seen some incredible models with them and they book big jobs. Brand Model Management in Orange County is solid as well. Many of the models represented by Brand are also represented by other agencies in Los Angeles, hence the overlap of models sometimes. They have some different clients and some of the same, but I know models who have booked large jobs through Brand and they have been nothing but great for me. Hope this helps.
