The woods, the scantily clad girl, the light, i's all there...so is someone intent on figuring out what your doing, either yelling at you from a distance or getting in your face.   What do you do?  Because you know if you just blow them off theyre going to play Mrs. Good Citizen and call the police.

I usually start like this and keep going down the list until they leave.

First answer to what Im doing is - Working.

Second is - We are working here, and you know time is money, Im sure you understand.  Have a nice day.

Third is - I understand this is all terribly interesting for you but my insurance only covers people Im actually working with.  Goodbye.

Fourth is - As I said we are working here, and now you are interfering with us.  Who are you and what exactly is your business here?  This usually gets them to leave.

If it goes further than this I usually just turn the camera on them and start snapping.  Youd think people were cave men afraid that the camera will steal their soul they run from having their picture taken.

//Yes Ive used each of these.

welcome, my worst was some repub retard from the red states that stopped and did not like my suggestion that she moved on QUICKLY , that started lecturing me about the evils of nudity.
Well I said,  I will NEVER want to see you nude, so BYE, move ON.

What I like are the people you ask to move on that take two steps backward and stand there.

Or the one lady that stood there with her four year old and chatted with us through the nude shoot.

But,  I like your suggestion, Start taking pics of them.

I like the 4th one best.....
People hate that.
Except this guy he loved it... I told him if he didn't stop I was going to call the police and then I got out my camera phone. (Ended up with this image for all my trouble.
https://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c218/Brentsprute/nateface.jpg
He asked if I needed help.
I hired him on the spot.
Gave him 5 bucks and sent him to get one calorie diet coke for the models. I bet he's still looking.

SK EVERYTHING you mentioned above was confrontational.... and bound for disaster.
I'm just glad you are not part of my team... which are always instructed to refer all people to me... and I take care of it.

Usually polite answers to a few questions and they move on

If that doesnt work a couple of stares and a growl usually does the trick

Oddest one to date was a very large paramilitary wannabe guy in camo fatigues and a backpack who kept going around the loop trail every five minutes obviously hoping the model was going to take off that bra

When he  tried to quietly stalk up through the woods off trail I left the model and the escort got around behind him and started following him until he vanished and didnt come back

That's illegal.  They can demand that you destroy the film, erase the card or otherwise confiscate your recording medium.

In a public place...bwahahahahahahahahaha.  They can demand what they want.  Means nothing.

Anyone trys to confiscate something from me who is not a police officer gets his nose broken or a trip to jail.

not in the US (in most states)
Absent a court order, private parties have no right to confiscate your film. Taking your film directly or indirectly by threatening to use force or call a law enforcement agency can constitute criminal offenses such as theft and coercion. It can likewise constitute a civil tort such as conversion. Law enforcement officers may have the authority to seize film when making an arrest but otherwise must obtain a court order.

have my  shoot security  throw there ass the hell out if they refuse to move on, and if they found my team some one was not doing there job very well either, i should know long before any one comes our way that they are coming and we stop, have a cold drink and shoot after they move on, nothing to see no reason to stay.

I don't think there's any (initial) reason to get defensive.  People are generally just curious beasts.  Why else would there be a huge slow down on the side of the freeway moving opposite of the accident?  Everyone just wants to see what's going on.  In every instance, the photographer just told them that we were doing a shoot, "thanks for stopping by, we're doing just fine here".  At which point the bystander looks at me for confirmation.....I repeat what the photographer said, smile and get back to work.  They usually leave, curiosity satisfied.

Did a girl-girl shoot on a remote beach quite a while ago....years, in fact......out of nowhere comes this woman with two boys....looked to be about 9 & 11.....at first they didn't realize what I was taking photos of becuse of distance.....but as they got closer and mom finally saw the almost nude models....her eyes got big as quarters and then her boys....bless their little inquisitve minds...LOL.....started to run over and get a closer look......so mom was kept busy not trying to keep her two interested sons from coming over and holding her hands over their eyes at the same time......LOL....never said a word.....just kept looking straight ahead like we were invisible....and kept wrestling with her sons so they could look either....and all the way down the beach all I heard was....Awwwww ..MOM!

Actually, you get them pissed off enough to touch you. That's assault. Then YOU call the police.

Now that would be a refreshing change to these threads.

Where are you all shooting that you run into so many people? 40 years and I have had someone come upon me shooting a total of 2 times. And boith times I or one of the models saw them first and go dressed BEFORE they arrived on the scene.... Now days models seem to always want to bring a friend to the first shoot or two...so put the "friend" to work as lookout. That's as close as I come to having any "waht to do when caught by someone" advice....that and just DON'T get caught.

Shooting in downtown Atlanta, never had a problem because it happens so much.
Shooting in suburbian Atlanta... Problems. I've had to tell quite a few people to either fuck off or keep stepping.

Only had the police show up once (some waterfall park, he was cool).

Shooting in my neighborhood was easier because I knew the local yokels and they knew me. So I would simply tell them they had 2 minutes of stare time. Then they'd move on like it was nothing.

Columbus, I haven't been bothered here at all. Hopefully I never... Oh wait, there was that one time I was shooting this 19 year old and her moms came up behind me and asked me if I had a license, that her father was gonna kick my ass (nevermind he hasn't been in the girls life) and what I was doing was immoral. Oh did I mention that the girl was fully dressed and we were just doing some headshots next to some really pretty flowers???

people are cooky.

I once did a shoot near some railroad tracks in a town in Northwestern Iowa.. maybe 500 people.  There was a 2 lane highway nearby and a backroad with some cars passing by occasionally of course.  A little while later the county sheriff pulls up and we engage in some small talk and all and he proceeds to tell us that someone passed by and called in to the county sheriff's office that we were "terrorists attempting to steal railroad crossing signs"   It was funny.. even the sheriff was laughing about it  wink
