if some of us had to call Jade Hsu and Tera Patrick each time we "used" their photo ; our telephone bill would be as high as BCG's phone bill.

Multiple pop technique? I didn't know guys could do that.

you'd be surprised what we can do...

but on a serious photographic note (yeah right), it would be sorta like shooting fireworks, but with flash.  leave the shutter open for a while and pop the flash multiple times.  it will create the appearance that a whole lot more is flying around in the air at once.

i can't believe i actually just sat here and thought that through.  must get rid of the day job...

yes this has happened to me. the guy got my yahoo messenger off of mm, talked to me and asked for some other pics because of this project and he wanted to see if i was the right one for it. I said ok after he explained the project to me and sent him some pictures. Then he sent me a request to view his webcam. i denyed (sp) it then he said he wanted to show me this pic that he took- i said y can't u just send it to me in a link? he said that part of his computer was messed up. then stupid me said ok mind u my hubby was sitting next to me reading it. and he started (yeah well u get the idea) then I said well I'm going because this is unprofessional he said don't go until i finish because all im doing is thinking of you. I blocked him needless to say but he still aggravated me on mm and he'd change his screen name and bother me then too.

...and this is why I never post any IM usernames on any public website. What would a serious photographer have to say to you in chat that he couldn't say in an e-mail?

Am I the only one noticing that it seems to be largely inexperienced models with overly-personal bios and portfolios full of camera-phone shots that are getting the real creeps? Not to insult them - I'm just thinking that a pervert who is looking to lure in girls would probably find it easier to target girls who obviously have little to no experience, perhaps because he's hoping they might not know enough to figure out that his conduct is unprofessional and inappropriate. It might help to weed out the pervs to look at one's bio with a more critical eye - the less you say about yourself and the more you say about your work and what kind of photos you want to shoot, I suspect the less interest you'll get from guys whose only interest is in getting you to touch their tripods. Though, of course, I could be wrong.

See, if it were approached from that angle, I might have considered it. But there were warning signs in the email.. Not wanting a male photographer, capitalizing the word PAID every time he mentioned he'd pay me, saying he wanted the pictures because he's a photographer. After I politely turned him down, he copied and pasted his entire email to me and sent it to another female photographer I work with in my local area. Oh, and he wanted to pay for me to travel there, as opposed to travelling to me. All warning signs in my eye.

It's all well and good, if the person gave you a bad vibe, but your post [as i read it] wasn't saying "eew" to him specifically but "eew" to the very idea.  Taking the "eew" out of sexualness is what my work is all about [unless the moderators say otherwise].

Melvin, I've been a fan of your work since I joined MM (too shy to say so before), and were I more comfortable in front of a camera I'd jump to pose for your work, it's stunning. I bet you could totally do justice to something like that.

I'm flattered, and hope that I'm not so forbidding that you feel you can't just tag me and say "hi" or anything.  Maybe one of these days you'll feel confident enough for us to create something together.  In the meantime, don't be a stranger.

Weird...I noticed that photographers in this thread seem to think you "led him on" while models are saying that this guy should be reported (which sounds like a good idea to me).

Aren't you glad that you didn't meet this pervert in person?  Yes, you have very good reason to be creeped out by this nut.  I'm sure other models would be grateful to you for letting them know about him.  LOL @ him describing himself...as if this is some kind of a dating service.  You should've been like "Like to know about my third nipple?" just to see if it'd scare him off.

ROFL Kaitlin!  Sorry, but that reminds me of an old joke. :-)

(apologies in advance if this little story offends anyone)

Braggart little boy shows little neighbor girl something he has that she doesn't have.

Little girl runs home in tears to ask mama why.

Little girl returns a few minutes later and shows little boy what she has, proudly points and says "Mamma said to tell you that when I grow up, this will get me as many of those as I want!"

Definitely report him to the mods...MM isn't a dating site and it sounds like he's using it as one. The mods frown upon that. It does sound to me like you were flirting with him a little though. Just be a little more cautious with who you talk to and how you talk to them.

People think they can just date anywhere these days.  Stuff like that should be reserved for bars and bowling alleys.

I work at a place where a woman and a man met and started dating and stuff.  They would even send each other little messages through email and once he sent her flowers!  I think they were having sex, even.  Eventually they got married and the company didn't even kill them or fire them or anything.  Can you believe it?

I think the difference was that this guy was much taller than 5'6" and was attractive and made pretty good money.  Otherwise the woman probably would have reported him for harrassment and had his ass canned.  big_smile

There are plenty of women who think you have it made because of you have a relatively easier time arousing men than they do.  Some probably even hate you for it.

The day will come when you no longer get that response from men.  Will you actually feel relieved?

Ditto. The more we hear of this story the more it sounds like you let it go on WAY longer than it should've. The second someone starts talking to you in a sexual way here you need to tell the mods and ignore the person.

Are we twins, Kaitlin :-)?  Seriously, I could not agree more.

Sinsazia: although I do think you should report him, I also agree that you may have *inadvertently* been flirtatious with him.  Of course, I am not blaming you...because someone who *wants* to believe you are into them will manage to convince him/herself of it somehow.  He is clearly the scumbag he appears.  There are lots of them out there.  Identify them, block and/or report them, and move on.

Don't contact him again...it just escalates the situation.  There are plenty of respectful, professional photographers with whom you can shoot...many right here on MM :-)!

Beautifully put, Lapis.  I actually NEVER use IM or Messenger for professional/business contacts.  It's strictly e-mail and then phone (provided I've decided to work with them).  It really is very easy to lapse into a comfortable, informal conversation on IM.  The only photographers who are on my friend list there are ones I've already shot with and developed friendships with over the years.

I am actually *frightened* at the level of ignorance many models display (and I'm not referring to Sinsazia here).  The world is a scary place on its own; add the issues of personal safety, the number of predators, etc., and it seems pretty clear that it is better to be *overly* cautious rather than not.

Of course, there are those who can't present themselves professionally in *any* form of communication...but that's a whole other topic :-).

TO EVERYONE:

First of all, just to clear one thing up, I did not IM with this person, he actually did get my personal email from my profile though and contacted me through that as well as in MM.

Okay, enough of that.  I originally posted this topic to get other's opinions and thoughts and that is certainly what I received.  I appreciate everyone's input, humor, constructive criticism, and advice.  Yes I am new to all of this and I am here to have fun and learn.  I definitely think this is a great community to be a part of and I am looking forward to meeting/working with talented and professional photographers and models alike.

Thanks again!

I've been working really close to a few people getting some larger progects started, and then I get the weird feeling that the photog is thinking a bit too hard about something EWEEE

More of my issue is that the people I wor with LOVE me or hate me... Models who are experience IE porn stars seem to not like me maybe becasue I don't put up with an hour late.

The photographers (mostly older males) seem to get attached in an unhealthy your the same age as my daughter BUT... sorta way.

Under these circumstances, wouldn't wanting an escort imply that the model in question would have decided to shoot with said photographer after this exchange had taken place?

Sometimes photographers have too many unnecessary conversations with the models.

In the real world, you contact the client ONLY when you have business to discuss, and only contact them for other stuff IF they give you permission to do so.

I don't spend my evenings calling clients how horny I am from looking at pictures. That's unprofessional, highly unprofessional.

We should talk enough to take care of the business at hand, then move on to other things.
