A little lack of diversity in my opinion. I think Crystal is beautiful, all the other models must have been at least 5'11" as crystal appeared noticably shorter. I know she is listed as 5'9". Is is possible she is a bit shorter?? Aug 29 07 11:45 am Link SWEETFACE SHOTS wrote: Who are YOU tellin!! Get outta that corner girl! Aug 29 07 12:38 pm Link This is probably going to upset some people, but I'm officially stymied, and I gotta ask. What is specialty plus, exactly? Is it just a made-up label for models who aren't plus models, and who aren't content with just being plain old models, either? Is there a definition? Are there clients who request specialty plus in their castings? Do agencies sign girls who call themselves this? Does it describe a modeling demographic that consistently makes money? Is it used just to soothe the ego? What's the deal? Aug 29 07 12:59 pm Link Sita Mae Edwards wrote: I guess it's the same reason models call themselves alternative/goth models. Aug 29 07 01:09 pm Link Ask Chanel Renee - she works with several specialty plus models. Aug 29 07 01:26 pm Link Nevermind, took it upon myself to find a blog she had posted regarding this found at: blog.myspace.com/buxomentertainment Here goes: There has been much debate the past few months over the terms BBW Model and Plus Model. 10 years ago the term BBW meant something positive. A big beautiful confident woman. Now, it means something very different. The term applies to 300lbs and up, it's used to describe a fetish, it's used to describe fat women who do porn, and more importantly... We've learned that BBW does not always mean BEAUTIFUL. The term BBW is thrown around all over the place. And with the popularity of the internet and sites like MySpace where people are free to be whomever they want to be without rules and standards, it is used by just about anyone and everyone who is female and fat. So what about the term Plus Size? Your clothes are labeled Plus Size, therefore you are a plus size woman. Right? Sure... for the common folk. But in the world of Plus Size Modeling. That label is not always accurate. The plus size fashion industry does not recognize women who don't fall into it's very strict (and conservative) guidelines. For the most part, Plus Models are 5'8" and up, sizes 10-18 (and in some cases, 18 is pushing it.) Toned bodies, flatter tummies, minimal stretch marks, minimal arm flab, preportioned bust and bottom, etc. In other words, industry standard Plus Models aren't a whole lot different than a model like Tyra Banks. Unfortunately, there aren't nearly as many beautiful women who fit the bill, therefore the Plus Size Modeling Industry is small, tight knit, conservative, and some would say snobby. So, what about all the beautiful plus size women who are a few inches too short or a couple sizes too big to sign on with an agency? We call them Specialty Plus Models. Some people in the industry hate the term, and others think it's fitting. (They've also been called Commercial Models and Plus Talent) What's makes a Specialty Plus Model? Well as far as Buxom is concerned, a Specialty Plus Model is a woman who understands that she doesn't fit into the fashion industries mold, but still strives to be a model. She's not interested in BBW Modeling or porn. She carries herself in a classy intelligent manner, and she aspires to be the best fashion model she can be...not letting her height or size hold her back! Those are the kind of models Buxom is looking for. Special models who want to see the industry change even if it takes 50 years. Special models who are dedicated to size acceptance, self acceptance, self awareness, and self respect. Special models who know the difference between nudity and art, sensuality and porn, high fashion and poor taste. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Here is our handy dandy guide to modeling terms and categories. (This is based on OUR research, this does not reflect the opinion of everyone in the modeling industry) Read this and really think about what type of model you want to be. Straight Plus - Sizes 12-18, 5'8"+. Models like Fluvia, Emme, Tocara Jones, Madeline Figueroa, Lisa Scott, Angelikka, etc. "Straight Plus Models" are tall, toned, and fairly porpotionate. Pretty much a curvier thicker version of a skinny woman...including a realtively flat stomach, no stretch marks, double chins or apparent fat rolls. (Try Googling those names and check out their online portfolios.) You'll find Straight Plus models on runways, Lane Bryant Catalogs, Dove Commercials, etc. These type of models get signed to the plus size divisions of major modeling agencies in NY and L.A. Speciality Plus - Sizes 12-26, no height requirements. Models like, Charlie Curvada, Nahid Baghery, Nadirah Bahar, Michelle Krehl, Tiffany Kaelin, Lynda Ray Hamilton, Danielle Rhoten, Claudette Rangel, Kenna Piercy, Tasha Duff, Amanda Hussey, etc. Speciality Plus models have much curvier figures and are not always porportioned! (ie, small on top w/big butt or huge boobs, pearshaped, etc.) They have stretch marks, cellulite, even sagging breasts. They're less toned, yet... of course... still beautiful models! BBW Adult Modeling - Usually the first thing people think of when they hear "BBW Modeling" is fattie porn sites... well, they're usually right! Unfortunately, alot of fat women don't do enough research to find that there are OTHER avenues of plus modeling to get into, or they think they aren't good enough for regular modeling so they start with adult/erotic modeling. (However, there are alot of ladies that genuinely enjoy that type of modeling. And that's fine...) Most "models" are size 18-40 (general opinion is, "the bigger the better"). There are tons of BBW porn sites, as well as erotic BBW magazines (BBW Bunnies, BBW Angels, Bodacious Magazine, Big Butt Magazine, etc.) Sooo.... it all depends on what your shape is like, how tall you are, what size you are, and what type of modeling you want to do (fashion, commercial, erotic, etc.) Aug 29 07 01:33 pm Link Thank you, ladies. Aug 29 07 02:01 pm Link No problem, doll! Aug 29 07 02:14 pm Link for the record, I AM A SPECIALTY PLUS MODEL... Aug 29 07 02:17 pm Link ROTFLMAO!!!! Aug 29 07 02:18 pm Link Damn straight!!!!
