I am 3 months pregnant... I was just wondering, do pregnant models get a lot of work requests, or does the requests decrease? With me, it would be REALLY bad considering lately no1 contacts me unless they're desperate... what am I doing wrong sad But yea... back to the subject... I need input...

Take some snap shoots and send them to all the parenting and pregnancy magazines.  It is hard for them to find pregnant models who are willing to show them self in photos.  Most pregnant women don't want to be the cover of anything showing them larger than what they are use to seeing.

Good luck.

I think a lot of it depends on what area you are in too. I've had a lot of shoots since being pregnant and some lucrative offers for more paid work but most of it is in California, Chicago, or NY (where most of the maternity store headquarters are).

I agree, start posting your availability as a pregnant model in various places. Also try www.expectingmodels.com. If you are willing to travel they are THE place to hit up! smile

I've been dying to shoot a pregnant model for some time now.  I thought I lucked out when my wife told me she was pregnant.   We ended up splitting(the baby wasn't mine) halfway through the pregnancy and I lost my chance.

Were you closer I'd definitely be trying to arrange something.

Try and find agencies that have clients in this field. Their usual criteria may well be discarded for pregnant work.

Yes, pregnant models do get lots of requests to shoot. It's usually the boyfriend/hubby/lover or whoever, that kills the opportunities to shoot.

I've been hitting up pregnant models to shoot, but none ever get back to me.  I've been wanting to do some black and whites of the mother while pregnant and then mother and baby together after...  Now that my wife is pregnant, I might get the chance.  But, if any pregnant models in my area read this, hit me up.

I am always looking for pregnant models, probably my two favorite subjects are maternity and newborns, then general portraiture.

I dissagree that people only contact you when they're desperate...

I've work with pregant models in the past...it just matters what the project is....

My biggest problem in working with models is MONEY/TIME/CONFLICTS of interest...

IE, NOT enought money, not enought time, and always something else being in the way.

I personally will work with pregnant models at any stage, especially for TFP or commission or non-commercial shoots. But as others have said, the partner or client for a commercial shoot may have other ideas or introduce constraints, and then it'll become too hard. It should present opportunities for you, especially if you're feeling good throughout. I might put up a pegnancy photo when things start working again.

I have worked with several pregnant ladies and I have to say the photos have come out great every time.  smile  Pregnancy does amazing things to women in that they almost glow with an internal radiance.  It's an amazing form of beauty.

You can shoot with me anytime during your pregnancy and certainly do Mother/child with me as well. Maternity work is by far my favourite and oh by the way... I am not desparate :-))

i know it's not exactly the same, but the artists i know (painters and such) fall all over themselves trying to get a hold of pregnant models. one of the women i work with got so many offers from artists that she was turning them down because her schedule was so busy in her last few months.

so yes, there are plenty of artists (photographers included) who love to take pictures during this very rare and fortunate window of opportunity.

I do not mind a pregnant model...unless she call me in for a paternity test.

I already e-mailed you about a shoot before knowing you were pregnant.  See? I am not running for the hills. In fact, this ups my interest if you are willing to shoot late term. smile

Now...about shooting gigs. Change your marketing approach. Broadly advertise the fact that you are pregnant. Get on the horn to maternity stores and maternity and child care magazines. Even local doctors, medical centers and university hospitals. There is work and demand for pregnant models, especially since the time period in which women are 'perfect' for the trimester desired is so short.

Try a couple of these web addresses:

http://www.expectingmodels.com
http://www.modelscouts.com/pregnant_models.html

These sites have placed pregnant women with agencies like Ford and Elite, magazines like Cosmopolitan and Vogue, and companies like Gucci, Chanel and Christian Dior.

There is also http://www.roundbelly.com that often does casting calls for their maternity catalog. http://www.roundbelly.com/models I know they recently had a casting call for their summer/fall line. I suspect that during the summer, when you are really beginning to show, they will do their winter line casting call. Couldn't hurt to place yourself on their list and update e-mail them frequently with snapshots of your growing condition.

I will also check with my ad agency contacts and see if there are any additional national listings for pregnant model calls and MM mail those to you.

I've done a number of pregnancy shoots and when talking to the women before the shoots they have almost universally expressed surprise that I've found the shape of most pregnant women to be so beautiful.  Best one I did was shooting about every 6 weeks during the course of the pregrancy and watching the changes in the body as time went on.  Closer in the series was mom/baby at 4 weeks.
So-how far are you from Cleveland?

I'd love to shoot a pregnant model but they never respond to my adds.  I have an idea of doing some of the easy dance poses I shoot  in color and B&W but can't find a subject.  In my opinion, this is one of the most beautiful phases a womans body can go through.  Kevin

I have sent inquiries to several pregnant models to do some artistic nude shots. The responses I have gotten are stupid. $150.00/hour with 3 hour min type stuff. These are internet divas with no decent shots pregnant or not. I kinda gave up on the idea.

I have gotten many many offers to shoot maternity photos. I am currently 6 months pregnant and started shooting at around 41/2 months. I am also currently booked up through the middle of August for Maternity shoots and many yet to schedule. I think it is such a beautiful experience and since it is not as common as say Glamour, and can be captured in a more artistic form many photographers especially those with an eye and mind for art want to be a part of it.  So dont lose hope. I have posted on my profile I am pregnant and interested in materinty and that is where it all began. I also sent out messages to all those photogs that once showed interest in me and let them know I was willing to do maternity and again have had a great response.

GO FOR IT!!

I do alot of maternity work. None of the maternity models I've shot are pro or part timers. None of them are "net-divas." They're all women who find me through my local networking efforts or are referred to me by other women I've photographed pregnant.

As many others have said, if our locations were closer, I'd be delighted to shoot with you.

All the best......

To answer the main question in the OP, the market for maternity work is at best, limited when compared to others, and at worst, a highly specialized niche.

However, if you're marketing outside of the 'net, I would think you should be able to find at least some work. I'm somewhat surprised you're not getting any offers at all.

Having said that, and FWIW, I rarely use the 'net to locate models for any project due simply to the high flake factor and it's corresponding effects on my blood pressure and checkbook. So, just to be sure that it wasn't me being an old-fart-curmudgeon, I posted a casting call for models for an upcoming figure project a few weeks back.

It ain't me.

I've shot a few pregant models & gotten some GREAT photos but none're released so I can't use them right now  sad

I have always wanted to do a series of fidgure studies in large-format B&W of a model starting at about 3 months & shooting every month thru term but have never been able to work it out.  I'd love to shoot you, but you're just too far away  sad

Hello again Kemara.  smile  We spoke some time ago and we tried to set up a shoot but for reasons I cannot remember, we were never able to make it work.  I would be interested in talking to you about what you may want to do and I am not TOO far away from you.  I have done pregnancy shoots in the past (I even have one up on my port right now) and I would love to do a maternity shoot as well.

I am not paying models to shoot with me at this time, however, if you are open to a TFP shoot, I am willing to see what we can do to shoot you before your blessed event.

As I hope my current portfolio demonstrates, maternity photography can be really nice! I suppose that there are photographers that shy away from it but I am also quite sure that there are many talented people who love to record one of the most beautiful times in the life of a woman!

I wish you were near Detroit as I would love to shoot you now, and even more in the eight and ninth months.  The growing life within you produces hormonal changes, and a wonderful natural glow.  This is th time you can with an experienced photographer make some images that you will treasure for life.

Any Detroit area models (or those within an easy drive of Metro Detroit, my studio is in the norwestern suburbs) well along in their pregnancy please email me, and include how far along you are in this journey.

YES!!!  I get lots of requests for months 6-9.  I have no idea how I am going to keep up.  All my messages are like "hey contact me in your (6th, 7th, 8th, 9th) month."

In fact, after this one, I might convince my husband to have another one...oh but I know my body needs to recover for 2 years like they recommend...but I want 4-7 kids...

you should have at least one or two images of you now in your portfolio to show your pregnancy, they don't even have to be profesional make it simple.

I'm already booked for maternity images (I'm not even pregnate yet...not for another two years)
