I try to do that as often as I can.

Sometimes when I am lonely I do it to myself!

Ooops! can't say that on National MM. Okay I take it back.

Not since I was seventeen anyway!

get out the house Don, meet some people!

I leave that job to the MUA.

But I have been known to man the water spray bottle.

I take applying baby oil to a model very seriously. The shine is a key element to my images and I can not entrust that to another member of the staff.  It is also a great way for a model to connect with a photographer that she has never shot with before. Plus I give a killer massage so I've never had one of the hundreds of models I've shot with complain.

The stuff is hell on seamless paper backgrounds!  But, if one must suffer for one's art, then apply the oil.  (Best if slightly heated before applying - less of a shock to the model!)

Nice work if you can get it.  Just be careful to keep the baby oil off your camera.

Oh my gosh, loaded question.  Are we presuming it is the body of the opposite sex?

Tanning oil is better for that if you're on the beach since it includes SPF.

The model should apply the baby oil herself or with the assistance of a stylist. Unless it is a shoot with Donley. Then he should provide massage and spankings.

Try Olive Oil...

I'm not joking...

It creates a much softer sheen...

Tastes better too...

I found it interesting that the majority of answers came from male photographers! (I'm envisioning female models getting the hell away from the topic, as fast as they can, out of fear!)
Actually, if you can get your nude model oiled up, try spraying some water droplettes on for a different effect.

Wait, isn't glycol the same as antifreeze?  Isn't that one of those chemicals that, when touched, will kill your whole family?

I am very flexible. I can reach the small of my back with BOTH hands. I have pictures to prove it....ah, I love yoga.

However, that is why it might be good to have a companion or MUA/stylist along especially if this is a first shoot.

I am really not into the idea of a photographer I don't know rubbing me all over with baby oil.

Unless it is d. brian nelson. But he is most well known for his spankings....

I have heard that there are a few around, but I forgot their names. Unfortunately, that was only their hobby. They were never professionally licensed by a breast styling school, and therefore were only photograhers that were self taught. Apparently their breast styling did not work too well.

Baby Oil GEL works MUCH better than baby oil ... it doesn't soak into the skin like baby oil does  and the sheen lasts longer.

Though I have not met him in person yet, and am being completely presumptous and premature, I can tell you why women love him...

Most men, when told womens fantasies, respond by drooling.

Donley does not do this.
In fact, he does not think this.

Even in his sexual photographic explorations, he is an intellectual, and stands beside himself, his mind separate from his body. It is not the 'normal' response one gets from a straight male. He is also quite open about his 'perversions' and that is more trustworthy than men that hide behind the false shield of chivalry.

He knows his mind, you know his opinions and thoughts, and also, he will not do anything that he is not begged to do first. His very nature is different than that of most men.

He would be a good mentor in that way. However, every mans personal success and interaction with women is based on their own internal workings and honesty, so rather than emulate, try to find your own internal center.

I know this is a serious answer to a quote meant in jest, but I am just not feeling very cute or ironic right now. Maybe more caffeine will fix that.

The photographer that I understand, a companion OK, but why is ok for another third party (MUA, woman, male stylist).  Does nobody watch the L-word.  It is fine by me, I mean I have this dream all the time, but seriously, why is it OK.

Because part of the job of MUA IS to touch the model...
Personally, I would prefer a woman I don't know rubbing baby oil all over me rather than a man, so I very well may make rampant sexist exceptions based on gender and sexual orientation.

Straight men I don't know touching me? I have been avoiding that my entire adult life. It makes me feel ooky.

Oh yes, bring it the f*ck on. I will happily have any trained masseuse cover me in any oil of their choice (many use olive or vegetable oil) for at least an hour. Of course, that may leave pink marks on my skin, so then I will have to sit around and sip Chianti and get touch ups.
Neck is better. Not perfect.
