No and no.

You must own the previous version to upgrade, and while there are often discounts for the full version of Photoshop if you have Elements, you can't use the Photoshop upgrade.

george...if you own a canon digital camera (or maybe any canon products?), you can get CS2 for 1/2 price...(~$325...I think?)

don't know the link...but, do a search and i'm sure you'll find info.

Here is my advice: DO NOT USE CS2 UNLESS YOU HAVE A GIG OF RAM.

I actually read the license of PS and found that you must own a previous version and agree not to even use that version on ANY other computer...

Hmmmmmm, I have a little under a gig, Mac, and really don't have problems.. Yea those 700-gig files do tend to bog things down a little, but I just shut down apps I don't need to have open..

According to the specs outlined on Buy.com's listing, the upgrade is good for "Licensed users of any previous version of Photoshop".

It's a bargain any way you cut it smile

You can upgrade from Elements 4.0, but it's $499.

"To install this upgrade successfully, you will need a licensed version of Adobe Photoshop LE, Adobe PhotoDeluxe, or Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 or earlier on the same platform as this purchase.
NOTE:This upgrade does not apply to Adobe Photoshop Album licensed users."

I upgraded from a legal student version of PS5.5, and it's a whole new world!

I got my version of PS7 from a friend and was given a new CS2 upgrade for X-mas and it works just dandy.

I run CS2 on a Windows 2000 Dell with 256MB or RAM. Runs fine.

I run CS2 on a Macintosh OS 10.3.9 with 896MB of RAM. Runs fine.

I've never heard of such a thing. I have no idea how anybody does that. You have to buy software. I always buy mine. Really. You can't just download stuff for free. That's crazy talk!

I am sure that you are joking right?  No photographer should be advocating the downloading of copyrighted work via the file sharing websites (or any other means) without paying the software developer for it.

It is truely stange that on the one hand some (not necessarily you, since I hope you were kidding) photographers, see nothing wrong with stealing software but, oh how they howl when one of their images is stolen and posted on the web or in print.

Copyright is copyright and if we, as photographers want to enforce our rights, we must be willing to enforce the rights of others -- and this includes adobe.
