Riddle me this...
what do you call when a model emails you and asks if you'd be interested in doing a tfcd with her. you say yes and set a convenient day to hold the tfcd shoot. model agrees with the day and tells you just to pick a time and asks what she should bring. you email back with the time, what's needed, what type of shoot, location, your phone number, etc. the day before the shoot there was no call or email from the model. the day of the supposed tfcd shoot there was no call or email from the model. (time frame from scheduling the shoot to the actual shoot day is two days) is this an official no show or just one of those strange phenomenons? Feb 22 06 12:58 am Link This is normal on here and other "net" modeling sites. When you actually DO get a shoot...now...THAT is something unique. Feb 22 06 01:00 am Link its actually a little of both, but the bonus is , this site hits the target more often than not for any shoots i have found, so just keep trying, reliable people are in the majority here. Feb 22 06 01:15 am Link I have a little game I'm playing where I get the same couple of girls that respond to my casting calls, ask for details, say they are interested, ask for possible days to shoot, and then I never hear from them...until the next time I post a casting call. I never remind them who I am. It's kinda fun. Feb 22 06 01:16 am Link i didn't really mind it at all. just wasn't sure if it was really a no show. too bad, though. i could have helped her with some head shots for her port. oh well. CA definitely has more than it's fair share of flakey models... a few of the reasons being (1) there's just too many job opportunities for models out here... they'll usually book two or three a day, then end up flaking on 2 to land what they consider to be the best job... and (2)... there's just too many other social events goin on out here too... concerts and Hollywood parties everywhere... agents calling up with last minute casting calls... MANY opportunities for that model to jump on another job and flake out on you. If a model does that to me ONCE... she's HISTORY... and I pass her name out to the hundreds of photographers I know... and they reciprocate by passing on names of models who have flaked out on them... yep... she aquires a 'flake reputation' in a hurry... and loads of the shooters I know have tons of paid opportunities available... so she ends up hurting nobody but herself... Feb 22 06 01:48 pm Link Photographers and models both flake. I think stylists also but not so much since they are mostly paid.... It just seems photographers talk about it more. I have found that persistant e-mails etc. and a time/date/number address all written in my daybook has helped me ensure my appointments are kept. People still flake, but persistant communication, makes them realize that they are valuable to you, and that it is better to CALL the day before if something comes up than to just blow it off. Feb 22 06 01:52 pm Link Wow! Have some of you out in Cali ever thought about relocating to the MIdwest??? Us Missouri and Kansas models are on time, relaiable and willing to work. Just ask us!!! Feb 22 06 01:53 pm Link Escorts come, but sit outside the studio because: 1) bring along a camera and 'can I shoot some' 2) suggest model pose different from my lighting scheme 3) try to talk to me when I am working 4) talk on the cell phone about 'bullshit' 5) knock over my strobes 6) try to get me to change my release form 7) go through my entire weks supply of cookies - get a big Mac before my place 8) or try to bring chinese dinner while I am shooting 8) then the F..KERS try to SMOKE I think you understand now! Feb 22 06 02:02 pm Link David Scott wrote: *in a nice midwestern drawl* Feb 22 06 02:05 pm Link I found a way to end this entirely, sorta. I require a pre-shoot meet (usually at the coffee shop around the corner from my place). It good for first time shoots cause they get to meet me discuss any concerns they have. We can discuss/plan detils of the shoot. And I can go over the legal side as in money, ownership, and all that jazz. I have not had one model show up for the pre-meet not show for the shoot and only one that was late for the shoot. Of course I've had plenty not show for the pre-meet but I just sit there drink some coffee and do other work on my laptop no time lost and i save all the time I would have spent the next day setting up for the shoot. Martin IV www.martincoatesiv.com Feb 22 06 02:32 pm Link I am in Chicago - certainly part of the Midwest - and I have definately had my share of no show models. Some I have actually talked to the day before and they are all gung ho about, then - POOF! - gone. My expected ratio - 1 out of 10 respond to an offer. 1 out of those 10 who respond then actually respond a second time to set up a shoot. 1 out of those 10 actually set up a shoot 3 out of those 10 actually confirm the shoot the day before And maybe 1/2 those show up for the shoot. So, to give a rough estimate, if 1 out of 50 offers get as far as actually shooting, I am doing good. This subject has gone on and on on this and other sites. For those of you who are new here, the everyone seems in agreement that most models here really aren't serious about modeling and some will actually never do a shoot. But out of the handful of models I have shot from sites like this, we have created some wonderful images. Don't take it personal - just have patience. Feb 22 06 02:34 pm Link And I also take Martin's tact - arrange a preshoot meet. If they don't show up for that, they certainly aren't going to show up for the shoot. And if they try to tell me they don't have time to meet ahead of time, I say then they couldn't possible have time for a shoot. I agree it also makes the actual shoot more comfortable and relaxed, and you both find out what the limits are ahead of time and no one is placed in an uncomfortable situation. And the nuetral ground like a coffee shop is very wise.
