The Full Monty
One of the things that I was enjoying about mm was that there appeared to be an equal opportunity for men and women vis a vis nudes...i.e. full frontal male nudity as well as the ubiquitous full frontal female nudity. It has come to my attention that some men do not want to 'stick out' and therefore have taken off some of their best figure work because it shows their penis. This is not fair in my opinion. I am calling out the male figure models to post some of their NON ADULT (no full erection? I don't know) photographs that they feel have artistic merit. Jun 13 05 01:47 pm Link QUESTION: If biologically penis = clitoris then is the same true photographically? Jun 13 05 01:54 pm Link yes. all pics with erect clits get thrown out too. Jun 13 05 01:58 pm Link Or are you saying that clitorises are not shown in female figure work... because if you are at all shaved, you are going to see something, or everything. Don't need a spread to see the front part of a womans gentitals either. Jun 13 05 02:01 pm Link Just a question Lapis. I'm just curious what the opinions are on male and female nudes. Jun 13 05 02:11 pm Link hmm... I don't think it's pornographic if he's not "saluting" anyone... I mean what about the statue of David by Michaelangelo (sp)? hmmmmmm? Surely one does not call that porn... Jun 13 05 02:17 pm Link Did anyone even see that movie "The Full Monty?" Was that movie not the cutest English movie ? That guy with the pump was killing me... Jun 13 05 02:20 pm Link I actually agree with you completely, I am primarily interested in male and female nudes too. Apparently I have heard too many people giving me the hidden genitalia arguement. I apologize...really don't want to appear defensive, I am also curious. anyway, proceed. I am going to abandon this thread now for a while and go take a shower. Have fun with this one everyone. Jun 13 05 02:20 pm Link Posted by Reese: Well there was that Simpsons episode... Jun 13 05 02:37 pm Link Hello, Cliff Clavin here, Cheers postman, An interesting factoid is that the term "the Full Monty" originally meant something else just a short time ago. The Full Monty was a term used by tailors or when people would be buying a suit. The Full Monty was the "whole nine yards" or a complete set in terms of having a suit made. You would be getting everything done. The average old time tailor is not too happy about the changing of the meaning of the term. As you were. Jun 13 05 03:41 pm Link Technically, unless it's a spread shot, you can't see the clitoris. You're seeing the clitoral hood, which is analogous to the foreskin. However, you will often be able to see inner labia, which would be analogous to the scrotum. Obviously, male genetalia is more "out there," but I'm not sure how that matters. Unless the man (or woman) is in abvious state of arousal, it's not even approaching pornographic. Jun 13 05 03:59 pm Link I all for equal time here. I hate the double standard in Hollywood, women get up after a love scene and walk across the room naked but if a guy gets up his shorts magically appear or he grabs the sheet (yeah, right, that happens in real life...LOL) and I feel the double standard happens in photography as well. I love Herb Ritts work with the male nude but I actually have a hard (pardon the pun) time finding male models who will do full nude work...sheesh, c'mon guys Jun 13 05 06:41 pm Link Posted by marksora: HI BABY Jun 13 05 07:35 pm Link Posted by Reese: But at the time Michealangelo created David it was considered gross and pornographic by the Roman Catholic Church. Additionally many of the nudes painted during this time period required the females to be covered in some manner. Jun 13 05 10:49 pm Link What about my pee pee? It does not work for someone cut my nuts off. Jun 13 05 10:51 pm Link Posted by nick latino: I can agree with this... Jun 14 05 01:00 am Link Posted by XtremeArtists ®: Posted by nick latino: I can agree with this... So can i !!! Jun 14 05 01:08 am Link Posted by nick latino: Is this true? Why was it okay for Adam (et al) to be nude in the Sistine Chapel? Same artist, same church... Jun 14 05 01:19 am Link Posted by Brian Diaz: Posted by nick latino: Is this true? Why was it okay for Adam (et al) to be nude in the Sistine Chapel? Same artist, same church... I imagine it would be, just about everything has been considered gross and/or pornographic by the Roman Catholic Church at some point or another. Jun 14 05 05:19 am Link Posted by Brian Diaz: Posted by nick latino: Is this true? Why was it okay for Adam (et al) to be nude in the Sistine Chapel? Same artist, same church... In a book on the complete works of Michaelangelo is was noted from written records that there was a great debate on the importance and the layout of this Sistine Chapel from both sides. The church wanted all the figures to be covered and viewed all nudity as evil, even though the church at that time was engaging in war on the non-christian community. A great deal of the leaders of the church were appointed in order for the church to recieve financial gifts. This was also deplicted in the movie Agony and the Extasy starring Charleton Heston (sp). Jun 14 05 11:35 am Link Posted by Reese: Actually I think Michaelangelo's "David" is a wonderful example of porn at it's most stylish. Think of it: An 8ft. tall statue of a naked teenage boy made by a middle aged gay man working for the Catholic church...does it get anymore prurient than that? Jun 15 05 02:13 pm Link Posted by Rick Edwards: Yeah I know what you mean... I have been after those naked photos of Bob Hope for a while... Jun 15 05 03:44 pm Link Posted by Melvin Moten Jr: Melvin, if you ever call my photos Porn I will personally kick your ass. Jun 15 05 08:44 pm Link Posted by nyx: Posted by Melvin Moten Jr: Melvin, if you ever call my photos Porn I will personally kick your ass. ...oops! too late! Jun 16 05 04:14 am Link I know this is probably off the main subject... but since there is so many mentions about the catholic church thought I would throw this in... (talking about leading the witness *so to speak*) Anyone know where the largest collection of porn, torture devices, or otherwise banned materials are stored?? anybody....please...you give up?? The Vatican - Yep Catholic Central *Go Figure?* Jun 16 05 04:30 am Link Posted by NightBreed: Why do you think I always bring it up? My sense of the prurient is boundless...ask anybody who knows me well. Jun 16 05 04:40 am Link I've read over this thread, and I'd have to say that I feel that full nudity in any work of art photo, or painted is just that art. Many guys, outside of the art world can only think of sex, and genitalia male or female as sexual organs. I have all daughters, and I've taught them that the body is the greatest work of art, and shouldn't be objectified. So basically I'm saying equal time for equal sexes. One more thing I'd like to add is to my fellow male photographers, that feel in some way that shooting a male nude is somehow "gay", then they need to look into themselves, and figure out why they are insecure sexually. Jun 16 05 05:02 am Link I would just like to take this chance to share with you a beautiful photo of my boyfriend, penis and all, taken by Melvin Moten Jr. edited because I forgot you can't post nudes in the forum Jun 16 05 05:24 am Link Can we say "penis" online? Jun 16 05 09:40 pm Link I have to agree...in the photographer's world it seems that alot of men dont shoot male nude, but will shoot female nude. I dont get this.I dont care who is nude. I shoot it all. And I dont care for the artistic stuff either. I do full monty or nothing. Why waste your time with all that heavy shadow, forcing the viewer to "look" for the goods. Dammit if your gonna shoot nude-shoot it! Jun 16 05 09:51 pm Link I once did some self portrait nudes for a college assignment. After doing them I have a whole new respect for models that do nude work. Sorry Lapis no "Full Monty" shoots. Jun 16 05 09:51 pm Link Posted by FotoHighway: Whoa.... uh oh...Leah's popping up... that's pretty rare... Jun 16 05 10:02 pm Link I am a male model and I have no problem doing full nude work. I am in Colorado, so if any photographers on here want to shoot a male full nude, contact me. Jun 16 05 10:03 pm Link Posted by Reese: I don't know about that one... AFAIK... Michelangelo's David's penis is supposed to be rock hard... isn't it? ;-) Jun 16 05 10:10 pm Link Posted by nick latino: Hey Nick; Jun 16 05 10:13 pm Link Reese, the photo's you want to try and find from the old hollywood crowd are Milton Burle's, he was supposedly a monster, but, hey, if Bob Hope does it for ya, more power to ya girl...lol Jun 17 05 06:45 am Link To try and get this back on track, is it improper to have a male model with a firm penis or not? I would think it is along the same line as a women with her legs spread wide open to the point you can see more than her tonsils. But maybe I'm worng. Jun 17 05 07:50 am Link In Timothy Greenfield-Sanders book "XXX 30 porn-star portraits" the guys are "firm". They "fluffed" for the shots to look their best. They are porn stars and have vanity/pride to contend with, but the images are far from porn. However, they aren't standing there with hard-ons. I truly think it depends on context and intent. Jun 17 05 07:58 am Link Since such shots are in such demand. Maybe I should make a pay site for some of my older images taken by my ex. I have copyright and the negs as she does of hers, smart to do. The beach ones might sell well.. = anyone know the name of the artist who used to make molds of the rock stars of the 60's and 70's. She would make plaster molds of their penis's (is it penises or penis's) and she used to employ a couple of fluffers. Jun 17 05 08:24 am Link Posted by marksora: Cynthia Plaster Caster. I beleive she had a couple of friends who participated, as well. And it's "penises." Unless we're talking about a possessive. As in "the penis's shaft." We're not, right? Jun 17 05 08:43 am Link |
