Hamza... I absolutely agree with you.  Strippers are the best and most well spoken group of people I know, and can I begin to say how charming they are?!!!!!!

So anyway Hamza... ever feel like grabbing a bite......

I Produced and Shot the Miss Nude Georgia and Miss Nude Atlanta Pagents for 3 years and know that Strippers are just like any other kind of woman.   Stripping is an occupation.  Unless Aswad has met and worked closely with at least 300 strippers, I don't think he knows what he's talking about.

I haven't worked like you in the scene... but I do know my share of the hard working gals, privately as well, and know whose full of it... and who's not.

I see it the same way, many of them are absolutely cool gals, me and my exwife became good friends with quite a few, some did actually finance their school with it (not just stories, but real) and one of them, an absolutely stunning girl graduated from NYU in acting and sociological studies... is now also working in tv commercials... we all have seen here... ahahaha...

I am often surprised what kind of general statements some people make and automatically assume that strippers are damaged goods... or all models are stupid bimbos... or all models have eating disorders... those are the same people who also easily make use of racial stereotyping... ("they" are... or "they" did it to us...), independend from their own racial background.

Guess it's a way of keeping life's complexity simple and manageable.

I've delved into the Male Escort/Porn Star pot occassionally, mostly when I first started working with models.  Bodybuilding is something that interests me, and since noticing that OMP and MM don't have an abundance of bodybuilding models (and who are willing to do nudes), there's quite a bit to choose from in the above mentioned pot.  I'll use these models when I want to work with nudes since they're a bit more open and comfortable doing that work.  I've had nothing but good experiences with working with these models, they've all been really professional and easy to work with, though they do charge an arm and a leg, and part of another leg or arm (I'm sure they just take advantage, but oh, well).  Just for clarification, and since I've worked with some MM models included in my port, there's only one, AND I REPEAT ONE, Escort/Porn Star in my MM Port - Gauge.

I won't say that this thread is stupid...
But I will say that any model that has the right qualities and abilities for modeling make the best stills. I too, have found that strippers are easier to work with, but the internet models I've worked with have fewer tattoos and tongue rings. lol

It totally depends on what you are going for.
I used to work for a photographer who did the 18 month calendar for Silk (the "upscale" gentlemen's club in milwaukee... is there such a thing?).  I was present for many of the shoots, and while they were fun to work with, I didn't think ANY of them had anything special to contribute... then again I wasn't very impressed with them as strippers either.  And this is supposed to be the most elite club in the city... maybe I just don't think stripping is all that interesting...  Or maybe I just wasn't present on any of the outstanding shoots (although looking at the calendar finished, I still wasn't too impressed.)
I looooove shooting actors.  They are laid back and expressive and usually pretty comfortable in front of the camera even if they haven't done it before.  There isn't a pressure to make them better looking than they actually are (not to say you shouldn't make them look good, but most casting directors I've talked to said they would rather see a headshot that really looks like the actor than one that makes them look like a model.)
The most expressive, interesting and willing-to-risk person I've ever shot is a ballet dancer who had never acted or modeled before.
In my experience, musicians are fun and creative and usually really respect the photographer as an artist, so they will contribute ideas without being pushy, and the nature of the kind of shoots they like to do make for a really laid back atmosphere.
I haven't worked with tons of people who are models (or fancy themselves models), but I guess I'd say a really good model has to be as expressive as an actor but better looking.

My friend, this probably has more to do with your location.  Been to SILK in Milwaukee, it's okay, and yes not too impressive.  Come out to NYC, I'll show you some girls that will make your head spin!  Many so-called model/actresses from L.A. used to say that they were going to NYC to "model" when in reality they came to NYC to strip.  I don't know why Stripping has such a bad stigma to it, it's not like you're going to get laid there... oh wait, I remember now, Feminists and Ugly Housewives.

Totally depends on what you're looking for.

As a generalization, the best models for a "project image" are going to be strippers and bodybuilders.  They know exactly what they look like from every imaginable angle, and know how to maximize the effectiveness of their presentation from every angle.

The fact that strippers are uninhibited (I'm assuming you are talking about shooting nudes/erotica) and would show you everything would make them better - if you could get them to show up, that is.  Ask any stripper and they themselves will admit that they are all complete flakes!!!

I love dancers - even when sitting still they have a grace that everyone else (and I do mean everyone else) lacks!!!

We still have strip clubs here? I mean, there are a handful on 8th Avenue and a bunch of really creepy ones in Queens, but the stipping indutry here is kind of nil.

Come to Fabulous Northwest Indiana...where you can win 50$ at the Casinos, and lose 300 on lapdances across the street to celebrate.

But, you have forgotten models that used to be high class call girls...they require much more knowledge of acting and emoting than your garden variety stripper...and are more likely to have natural unenhanced breasts.

Theda, where've you been?  Penthouse Club, Hustler Club, VIP Club, The Gentlemans Club, Scores East, Scores West, 10's, FlashDancers, NY Dolls, Lace, Privilege, Stilletto's, Legs Diamond, Private Eyes, Silk, Carousel, and Bare Elegance in order of best to worst...  Only the last 2 are the real dives...

And those are only the ones in Manhattan South of 72nd Street that I remember!

You really need to get out more...

One of my friends is one of the owners of the Spearmint Rhino. He just opened a club in the valley.

First off, this place is a photgraphers dream. I mean it is upscale and decked to the nines!

The dancers are right out of a magazine..DROP dead beautiful. I mean, I am sitting there at the grand opening wishing I could have brought my camera into the place.

I wasnt thinking about T and A.. I was thinking these girls are my dream shoot! Beyond the nudity, they were just awesome...If every model I shot with could throw it at the camera like these girls did..WOWzers!

While I enjoy directing models as much as I love to just shoot. It is always a pleasure to have a model walk in and just DO IT! Not coaching needed..no posing..they are just on..I love that..

These strippers had it...while I am sure it was to make tha tmoney...Who cares! They were on point.

I'd work with a stripper any day..Fully clothed even...

the mark of a great model, is not her profession, but rather her ability to turn on that switch. Work that camera..shine..project...

I think it comes with being a good dancer or performer, not a huge leap.. shrug

Hell,Let's shoot em all and see what happens....

Yep, I started there because (a) I didn't know any better and (b) I figured they wouldn't mind working with a rookie as long as they got paid. And as long the shots weren't truly horrible, of course. Though I quickly ran out of money for that kind of thing (yikes!) my experiences have been 99% terrific.

Now, for a while anyway, I'm pretty booked mostly with trade shoots which suits my needs very well. But it's also true that if you want to shoot BIG built guys, you aren't going to find a lot of them here, so I continue to do that. Plus I've got to know some of the guys and they want pics from me, so we work out a deal (no not for THAT silly).

Women escorts, I have no idea. Probably a completely different world from a number of aspects.

This has been an interesting read.  I guess back when I was starting out, shooting a stripper was a treat because she was happy to get naked.  But when that in itself was no longer the basis of my judgement (as nudity was the rule, rather than the exception) I can't really say that one occupation provided better or worse models than another.

I have found that beyond adequate appearance, intelligence is the single best predictor of good results from a shoot.
