It took me years before I made my first good butt picture.  I'm not sure that's because of my natural shyness or conservative upbringing or just because I've always had a difficult time visualizing a butt picture that would still emphasize the woman, rather than just the butt.

Now I'm getting pretty good at butt pictures, and like it when models turn their backs on me.

So, let's have a deep and intellectual talk about butts.

Next?

Hint:  How about an exploration of the socio-cultural impact of butts on Western thought?

I'd probably like your butt too, but it seems you only show it to perverts without cameras.

They have cameras, I just don't let them use them.

To the best of my knowledge, I've only ever photographed one close-up butt.  It was part of the snake shoot (see me profile for a couple of the photos, but not the butt...sorry sad) and the butt in question was covered in bodypaint and gold foil, and there was a snake crawling down the small of the model's back.

It's tough to do without falling into the latter half of T&A.  But I think the same goes for the former half...

I assume by the nature if this post that you want comment on the body of your work?  (or maybe I am reading too much into it).  You are an amazing photographer with regards to your subject matter.  All your images are technically exquisite (from my untrained point of view).  However, I cant help notice that there seams to be a *slight* air of objectification of women here.  -That seems to be an element of your style in your port.  I would love to see a broader range of your work.

- wrote this before looking at your web site and see that you do in fact have the amazing work I expected to see.    So anyway, so back to the subject at hand: why is shooting one part of anatamy any different from another?

I am sure others do as well.  Now mine is a different matter, but thankfully, I am a photographer and too old to worry about such silly things.

But onto Don's original comment, I understand your problem.  Toushees have a geometry that makes them intimidating to shoot.

I think there is such a thing as a photogenic derrier.  I guess the answer is to keep on trying until you get it right.

What you need is some butt volunteers.

I'm going to venture forth and say that different anatomical parts have different physical, psychological, and sociological purposes which affect how the are perceived in life and in art.

I think choosing a good focal length is important to getting a good butt shott..... the right amount of compression or wide angle depending on butt....

I think the best way to get butt shots is to be a fair distance away (and use a long lens) so that the head doesn't look too small in relation to the butt

Don't do that.  If you "laugh your a$$ off" then you couldn't possibly make a good butt volunteer.  Having your a$$ on is a requisite to volunteering.

Anyone have links to good butt shots?

Moderator's note:

Please link to these photos rather than posting them directly.  We'd like to keep MM as work-safe as possible, so let's keep seeing photos of bare asses an active choice.

Thanks,

Does that mean we should keep the links to bad butt shots to a minimum?

OK, now.

Use extreme caution when opening!

This is NOT safe for any civilized environment, much less work.

It is explicit, in your face and...well, I like it.

From the last frame of a bondage shoot when I asked the model what she wanted to do ... and she described this.

This isn't yer gramma's typical butt shot.

taken down - That one could probably get me banned.

And it's not my best one either, but ...butt.

Maybe we sould just wax philosophical.  Each write a short essay on "What Butts Mean to Me," or something like that.

Models, MUAs and Stylists are encouraged to chime in.

"Horse sense" is really a bad thing.  Horses are not known for their intellectual prowess.  "Horseass sense" might be a different thing.

You know, that is a new thing. I don't like it. Keep the front page worksafe, but I want to moon people on the threads. I will take it down after three or four people get fired from their jobs for looking at a gallery pic at work.
