I say WTF every time I view a picture and look at some of the comments below. People commenting crudely on anatamical parts and making pitches and sexual advances towards models? WTF?

Models are employees and co-workers! Make those comments at your day job and see if you do get slapped with a hand and a harrassment suit!

The next WTF are some of the criticisms. I rarely see the need to, or the right to, negatively criticize another's work. One problem with arbitrarily viewing and criticizing another's work is that one does not know the other's customer base. There are photos that make you say 'WOW!' and others that do not do anything for you. But that is individual taste. You know who the real, justified critics are?

The customer.

You can do fantastic work and be a starving artist. You can do critically mediocre work and buy a masion if people are buying your stuff.

It is like the movie critics. They regularly pan movies that become block busters. And they praise movies that would put you to sleep.

In my opinion, portfolios that bring home the bacon are the best. WTF are the rest?

Third WTF:

Models telling me their relationship or financial problems. WTF?

My reaction was not so much WTF as it was "Oh my God!".

Poor lady!

First, she doesn't have a clue. Second, she got nailed to the wall!

Attitude counts!

I can understand someone not knowing what they are doing and asking for help. Dictating terms though.....????

Admittedly, some of the critiques against her were personal and rough. I think she unwittingly dug herself a deeper hole by attacking back.

She also failed to understand one basic business principle. Yes she is in this to hopefully make some money...who isn't (GWCs excepted). But any business person will tell you: To make money, you have to spend money.

the really bad photographers that assume you are pointing them out when you mention bad photography in general...there are a few that follow my posts and the minute I say something like "I would like to rid the net of crappy photos" just ASSUME I'm talking about them and so they come back all defensive.. If anyone assumes they are the target of "bad photography" remarks when their name is not mentioned ...well they probably are pretty bad...LOL!

WTF

when I see some of the sort of crude comments some alleged "Professional" photographers make on a models pictures.

Also comments some alleged "professional" photographers make about women:

I.E. "Anything with two tits and a hole" / " I know when a vagina stinks", I would never work with a photographer who behaves in such a poor and totally unprofessional way in a public arena. They forget this is a means for them to advertise and that sort of advertising does them no good what-so-ever.

Kind of makes me wonder what motives some have for photographing women, esspecially when they take topless / nude pics...

Pervert is one word that comes to mind for some of them.

Yet another photographer just started yet another thread asking "how do I get in Playboy?"   https://modelmayhem.com/posts.php?thread_id=12412

Instead of using search on the Forums and typing in Playboy, that would be way tooooooooo hard.

That makes me say "WTF", how many times are we going to answer the stupid Playboy question......

If they're like me, it's because there are so many trite photos on both model and photographer profiles here that it becomes painful at times.  (Note that this isn't a stab at MM, but probably an assumption I would have about any venue that is this open.)

I'm not claiming to be the world's best photographer.  In fact, it's quite the opposite--I have a lot to learn, and I study other people's work on this site, but there's just a lot of bad to sift through to find the good.

To top that off, I see a lot of "wow! great work!" comments, as another poster mentioned, that make me think, WTF??  If I had posted some of my worse photos and got a "great job!!!", I'd wonder if it was from someone selling something. smile

When I see some people on MM, a networking site on the Internet, operating in a vacuum/silo/tribe mentality. In other words, they question 'friend requests'. Not that I know of any that questioned mine.

Some of the comments I've seen on other ports regarding adding/accepting friend requests makes me say WTF, because friend requests are to every MM member like exchanging links are for websites.

It's beneficial for everyone, including visitors to the site.

Me personally, I accept all requests. Even if I don't know them personally. I see it as a genuine attempt to be my friend. If they don't msg me first, or at all, I take it as they are shy to initiate communications. When I have the time, I'll take the first step, let them know I'm approachable.

It's not rocket science people. Just because we're older, expanding your circle of friends online or not, should not be rocket science. Keep it simple like it used to be when we were kids meeting up at the neighborhood playground.

Word!
I thought only escorts had an inversely proportional relationship between client respect and their number of years experience in the business.

I guess if this is the attitude... then photographers are also screwed.  (grin)

When photographers post pictures on their site that isn't theirs! It obviously stands out from their other ameteur posts and they take it down when they get called out by everyone that happens to know who that pic belongs to. Then, since they can't stop you from calling them a fraud on all their tags, they email you saying "They are sorry they shouldn't have posted it, they posted it because they liked it and didn't think everyone would assume it was taken by him"

WTF???

I didn't see a caption under the picture saying "A picture I admire but did not have ANYTHING to do with!" I didn't see him say anything when 16 people commented on how much they love his work (that wasn't his) and how much of a great photographer he is.
