July 02, 2008 7:29am Love all the layers to this. The crucifixion reference is obvious, but I like the way the angel's wings are rendered, and how there's that chaste covering-up gesture. The whole scene is placed against that huge piece of stained glass, which suggests a church, but could also be a museum. The marble work and statuary also suggest a museum. So, the whole thing becomes not just a representation of The Crucifixion, but also a commentary on the uses and locations of those representations.
