October 09, 2014 10:01pm To me, Art is more than just paint on canvas or wood, it is expression, it is putting a piece of oneself out for the world to see and judge. In this way, creating art can sometimes feel vulnerable and yet as artists we continue to share the beauty we have within. The idea behind this image is that the process of creating art can sometimes feel like being naked. But sometimes, that means being free. It means not held down by heavy cotton or jeans, not shackled to convention, not muted by the world but rather, invigorated and energized by it. I wanted a nude silhouette of a woman painting to express the beauty in the body as well as in creating art. I wanted to show the intimacy and delicacy involved in creating something with your hands. At the same time, I wanted to explore the way light played across the curves of her skin while respecting her as an individual and a collaborator, and not an object of purely sex or physical attraction. Working with Layla was amazing, seemingly effortless and a great experience. I am very grateful!
