July 06, 2007 8:53am I am sure there has been comparisons with Mapplethorpe due to the subject matters. but i prefer the style of mr. healy. the added contrast, the more subtleness in form, less sexual objectification of the black male figure. The images seem to be more of a celebration of the black male as an aesthetic. this image again is exemplary of the combination of lighting, composition and aesthetics coming to gather to create a beautiful strong image.
