It was part of fine-art series I did to try and emphasise Rolands Barthes theory of Punctum and Studium, how soliders die like time, but their own image is frozen in the photograph forever... That you are "looking into the eyes of the emperor" yourself (that's a quote from the book). The mask was suppose to jokingly portray the soilder as dead, or at least not alive in some way, but if I could go back I'd remove it. Honestly I shot the entire series in a day for my First year work since I was lacking behind on it. Haha.
