Doug, with all due respect...

Shouldn't that be something that would be discussed prior to planning, or are you saying that a TFP shoot was agreed upon and then she changed her mind and quoted rates?

You haven't said one way or the other - but if it wasn't clear to both parties well into the planning stages whether it was a TFP or paid gig (paid in either direction) then both parties have some share of the blame for not bringing it up early.  Its pretty much a showstopper issue.

With regard to raving about work - well, not all of said comments are genuine, and are quite often designed to butter up the shooter to convince him to pry open the wallet.

Not suggesting that happened here - but it happens - a lot.

I'm gonna go with Doug on this one.  If ANYONE is expecting money to be put into their hand, they ought to discuss that upfront before any other details are covered.

The only exception I think that would be appropriate would be that once the concept is nailed down one party expresses their desire to make money off the photos.  Then of course, the other party can understandably expect some sort of compensation to be negotiated.

But even with that exception, that issue should be discussed up front as well.
